It looks to me like a lot of ENTJs can come off as introverts simply because they're so invested in their work and achieving their goals that they have little time to socialise, and also they can struggle to find people that match their energy levels, which can cause them to appear isolated and aloof.

It comes from being authentic. WE need more authentic people. This whole new movement that one is not born in the body they were given, has spawned very unauthentic, confused damaged people. So to see someone like Cillian perform, and off screen his intensity and life are authentic to his own self.

Isfp and entj share the same four primary cognitive functions, I think, depending on his cognitive development it’s very likely that he’s overcome the “embody your goal” grind mindset that entjs are so mistakenly associated with.. their Fi is so undervalued much like the Fe of an Is/ntp

I already considered fi Dom type for him, this video actually made it even more clear he's not an entj for me. I'm now betting on Isfp. Also because My mom, grandpa and younger brother are all Entj in Myers Briggs and I have enough experience with entj people that I can identify easily when someone is an entj, I'm pretty sure Cillian Murphy isn't a Te Dom person at all. Thomas Shelby his character in peaky blinders is an Entj but Cillian Murphy the actor isn't that's for sure. After seeing this analysis and those full interviews he definitely made me consider ISFP even more. And ISFP makes perfect sense when you consider it while typing him, much more sense than a Te Dom like Eric has typed him as.

A friend of mine is ENTJ and the first time I met him I was sure he was an introvert and he kept telling me that he's not. It took me a while to understand that he simply doesn't enjoy socializing or talking to a lot of people and that if he doesn't talk to me for months is not personal.

It's interesting to know that the wealth of his theatrical work are plays by Enda Walsh. Endas works can be extremely explosive and physically demanding with volcanic emotional display. Its interesting that his connection to that type of work is where he seems to thrive as an artist. Then yet, he can seem so reserved and simply inquisitive in the other areas of his work. Hes a wonderful actor who really explains his work beautifully.

I would have never put him as an ENTJ. Because I didn't quite understand the concept of extroverted thinking. Being an ENTJ myself, I thought extroverted people almost always had to be loud and social. So I would have put him INTJ or INTP at first. But he really is like his character Tommy Shelby, which is also typed as an ENTJ ! Thank you so much for all your knowledge ! :)

As a fellow ENTJ, this was really interesting! I see myself in a lot of what you described about Cillian, actually. Weirdly enough, I’m also described as “introverted”, but it generally comes from a feeling of not wanting to share my life with random people. However, I can instantly tell if I’m going to be friends with someone, and I’m able to share my full self with those people once trust is established. That’s when the extroverted energy comes out. 😋

According to Carl Jung introvert is someone who takes mainly subjective factors into consideration while making decisions or perceiving something, while an extravert takes mainly objective factors such as outside expectations (whether they come from others or just from a "common sense" of what's right and wrong, what you should achieve etc.)

This video is sending me into an identity crisis, but in the best way possible because it gives me so much to reflect on. I am not sure if i am an entj or an intj, i still haven't figured myself out. There are times where I try to understand myself better by looking at other people, especially famous ones, with my same personality type. I thought, as almost everyone, that Cillian was an intj. And you proved me wrong (thank you for that). But while i was listening to him talk about his work, I could relate a lot. I think I focused too much on the extroverted or introverted definition, that I missed some points. Thank you for this video, it's amazing, as all of your videos are. Please analyze more celebrities with intj personality type, it would be really useful to me.

You can't type people based on their obvious introversion or extraversion, because that isn't how the cognitive functions work. Someone can still be socially introverted, but be an extraverted type.

Cillian is Irish … being raised Irish your taught to don’t ever think too much of yourself and if you get too ahead of your pride it is smacked out of you straight away … in other words he’s a very humble man . He loves and is so passionate about his job but he’s definitely Irish when he never lets it go his head as he’s been taught to be humble . I really like this Guy and how he loves his wife and children so much and he always credits his wonderful wife for her support and patience with him .

Yeah, it's interesting. I've noticed that ENTPs can seem introverted because they aren't always very expressive or loud, and ENFPs can have a very mellow vibe and enjoy solitude. I love learning more about the functions versus just trying to go by whether someone feels introverted or extroverted, based on how outgoing they appear.

Hey Eric, Interesting analysis! I see the Se/Ni balance, but I thought the examples you offered for Te could equally be reflective of strong Ti. As well, the little bit of emotional expression offered at the list of other actors could be indicative of 4th slot Fe. The draw to danger, diving in, and being pushed past limits lines up stronger in my mind with xxxP types than xxxJs. Did you consider ISTP as a possibility for Cillian?

Great question! Too much to fully explain here but basically his logical detached side never really showed signs of Ti. It wasn’t personal logic or reasoning or about peoples feelings and values. But instead always very focused on making things progress, being competent, his work, goals, making something work, etc. He was actually very into setting his personal opinion or thinking/feeling aside in order to accomplish his goals or get something done. In a very Te way. It’s true some of those qualities do sound Se maybe higher - with Cillian - all that jumping into things, danger, challenges etc weren’t really about being in the moment more fully. It was always very goal focused. Let me push myself harder or really jump into things so I can make my impossible challenge possible or even better. Which is very ENTJ. As well, ISTP’s do have an intuitive side but not quite in the same way as NJ’s. Cillian constantly liked talking about things in an abstract and sensory way with an ease and flow that SP’s wouldn’t wanna do all the time. Also, for instance the dancing between the raindrops cue…most people would not find that very clear or concrete or specific enough…but for Cillian you saw he actually liked reading between the lines and patterning off of that. It was actually exciting to him to guess like that. Anyways lots more than just that, but hope that can help! Appreciate the thoughtful question and you being here!!

That is interesting... From all of the character studies Ive seen of his most significant character to date, Thomas Shelby from the Peaky Blinders, he is also analyzed as an ENTJ... Now on the surface you wouldn't think they are too similar, but after watching this, it does seem that Thomas Shelby and him do share more in common than you would think are first blush.

@EricWen. Just discovered your channel. Could you PLEASE possibly analyse the Korean actor Lee Dong Wook. For some reason, his personality has really been bothering me a lot and I'm not completely sure why. I just get red flags about this person, but I can't quite figure it all out. I've witnessed some possibly narcissistic and very manipulative tendencies but am not sure what his exact psychology is. Your evaluation would be great. I could provide specific info on certain interviews, etc to evaluate body language, remarks, and reactions to others if that would help.

I think he is an introvert at heart as far as he and his family goes. His passion for acting is when he gets more engaged and excited. I have seen small clips of him at functions or interviews, and he seems to be a million miles away. He does not feel really comfortable being in the spotlight except for acting. He seems at times to be wondering what or how did I get myself into doing this. Then he gets that faraway look in his eyes and even his expression. He would be happier just doing a movie and not having to do talk shows, interviews, and walking the carpets. He probably spends a lot of time introspecting. If he is intellectually stimulated, it comes through, but he does seem like one for stupid chit chat. I recognized these traits in him almost immediately because I too am an introvert and would rather be alone than chit chatting. If you can intellectually srimulate me, I'm right there. It must be hard for him at times.

Thank you so much for this video. Not at all what I expected. I wonder how can you tell if a person gets drained or energized by interaction. Because I thought his none involvement or wondering thoughts were of an introvert being drained or just uninterested in what was going on around them.

Entj is known to be a natural leader. Cillian has mentioned in his interviews that he's not a leader type. The basis of your analysis dwells heavily on the fact that he turned off his emotions and focuses on the good work or the fact that he tends to let work define him- I don't know if personality plays a lot here. Anyone with a drive/passion having a big role to play would have experienced the same. My thoughts anyway.

the basis of your analysis is something shallow and arbitrary?? i agree it will never be 100% accurate to type someone via interview clips but him not identifying as a natural leader is enough to knock him off an entire type is so puzzling to me. if personalities types were so kiddie pool deep, then no one could ever type themselves because humans are so complex and so are types. mbti is not a strict uniform that overrides all personal individuality, why do people act like it is. it would be so boring and no fun whatsoever if that was the case. lame!

hey Eric! would you be open to doing a kpop idol? there is this one guy in particular Jake from Enhypen. They are one of the most popular kpop boybands of today and he's got the fans stumped on his personality type. His pdb page is a mess! It's between isfj, isfp, and estp. There are videos with subtitles because of Kpop's growing international fanbase but also ones where he speaks English because he spent a lot of years in Australia!

I‘d like to understand why i am sooo attracted to him (his personality type). I would love if anyone could compare ISTJ with ENTJ because now I'm feeling confused about myself. I have always felt correct in beung ISTJ but I alwayd thought introversion as being alone, no friends, quiet, in my head, but now hearing this, I'm very goal oriented, I have a very "psychologist", helping, teacher, kind of personality. I have great learship skills and try to keep groups stable. So I wonder now based on this if I've been wrong all along

I'm an ESTJ that isn't very social, (but I don't get drained from being around people) so it's possible. One thing different about the introverted and extroverted types are their blindspot, which is the cognitive function you use or care about using the least. It's Fe for ISTJs and INTJs, Ni for ESTJs, and Si for ENTJs. From your description it sounds like you probably don't have Fe (or caring about the feelings and values of the group) as a blindspot. So I would look at ESTJ vs. ENTJ and Si vs. Ni.
