I'm an INFJ and my best friend is an ENTP. I always admired how he is able to walk through life and express himself so freely without really caring what other people think of him. It's like a super power I wish I had. I remember when we first met. We were in college and I was sitting at a table with him and 4 other people and one of them said a joke and everybody laughed. I thought it was funny, but I kinda just smiled and looked down at the desk in front of me. The guy who told the joke pointed at me and said "You need to lighten up and laugh more!" The table went quiet and before I could respond, the ENTP said "Nah, he thought it was funny, he's just a laugh on the inside kind of person!" I was floored! This guy (having only known me for a couple days) was able to come up with such an articulate and dead on truth about who I was. He's one of the only people who I feel really got me.

[INFJ] I had an awkward interaction with an ENTP once in uni. He shouted, "Why would you say that?!!" when I was asking him silly questions to break the ice. Looking back, I don't think he was really as offended as I thought he was, but his tone shocked me so much that I ended up leaving the room soon after

My bestfriend is an INTJ. In nature, ENTP's partner is either INFJ or INTJ. She is the only one who understands me and fun to get into a debate and never take it personally. I even had a thought of dating her lol. Yeah, i'm a girl and she's a girl. But she's straight so i just close my heart for love until i find an INFJ or INTJ guy. We love each other anyways.

as an entp, I'm wondering if anyone else feels that they make significant attempts to connect with people and understand their views, but something is separating me as if the people I connect with don't see the whole picture. +Zach Riley I get where you are coming from that's us thinking in the future seeing the big picture where that when we start quizzing or testing them to see if they know what they are talking. Majority the time they don't... One example I Play you should try is getting a bottle, or something everyone knows. It's heaps of fun! Like example: A soda drink asking them what do you see in this bottle major will say perhaps it's a sprite drink ok? I don't see your point. They have one view one way. As you already know. these kind of people are all about following the rules, and that's all they can believe what we are looking for answers about this bottle isit's 12floz when you cut it's a scope, breaks down in 18 to 20 years, can be used as a candy funnel list goes on. which brings me to this What I have found to explain to those kinds of people is that you have to show all the different types of learning. Within that, you can lavage the gaps you might be missing. Mostly likely this you coming up with ideas, Or perhaps thinking critically of the future of something that you see that will not work when scaling. I find that you don't explain to them if you know that it might take some time to explain, and you have a short amount of time I'll go around that and just show them the results and then they oh wow that's great idea blah blah... Remember they are not stupid... they don't see big picture because they are in the moment kind of thinkers and most likely they stress out easy too.

As an ENTP i need to feel instant chemistry in all elements to be able to connect with someone on an emotional level. If anything is out of sync I instantly disregard them as relationship material. As you can imagine, it's hard to get past the first meeting with most people haha. Thus leaving me quite lonely but also on a path to my own self love. I have had one long term relationship and I sometimes doubt if there's someone else out there for me..

@@jewelyJewels hello, human. it all depends on your perspective. i, as a female entp, found this rather amusing and not to be taken as too seriously. we mostly have the tendency to be somewhat dramatic and we enjoy a sense of humor. everyone (in their own unique way) is somewhat special because we all contribute to world, whether positive or negative. just because you don't view this as other entp's might, doesn't particularly mean that we can't have fun. not everyone will appreciate this sense of humor, but it's okay. we're all just having fun. ;)

As an ENTP, I've come to find myself either teaching someone, or toying with someone's emotions. I manipulate people into good or positive moods. Any idiot can make someone upset. When I discovered that I was ENTP, I felt joy and relief because everything fell into place. I love what you say about “button pushing” as a method for our exploring and learning. What you say about being accurate (TE) also makes sense. I am probably 40 years older than you are, so I have had opportunities to go through a lot of stages. What has helped me the most is to explore my FI. I developed a very method for this that has proved rewarding to me. I think that “trickster” is a misnomer for the 7th function. I believe that the FI is the real, less well discovered “hero” and “savior” in the house. The FI will trick you until you are willing to listen to it. Once you are willing to listen, it becomes a gateway to and from the Higher Self.

I am passionate about my opinions too and that gets me in trouble sometimes. Once someone gets me started I don't stop. Like when people say not to talk about it, I'm gonna talk about it. If somethings bugging me I'll flat out say it. Idk does an entp need to be with another entp to make a relationship work?

I was raised being told I was stupid and social awkward. As a child I really wanted to learn to read, but could't. I really wanted to pass my spanish, chemerisy, and math courses but i couldn't. I tried my best and had tutors but it wouldn't work. They were trying to teach my by memorization, and I can't memorize anything. I have to learn by conceptual based learning. In order to pass middle school my spanish teacher gave me the answers to the test because she knew how hard I tried. To pass community college I had to cheat on my math final, to pass college I postpone one of my finals by over a year, when I got a D on it I should have had a total passing grade but because the test was pushed back so far, he lost all my previous grades and just gave me a B for the whole corse. I graduated with honors. When I was in HS and college I would hide in the bathroom during parties because of my anxiety. Now when I feel insecure i just look at the facts of what I have achieved in my life, and I feel slightly better.

I know this is a year old (at least), so my apologies for the late reply. I recommend a the book called Goddesses in Everywoman by Jean Shinoda Bolen. Within she discusses archetypes that have existed in our collective unconscious for thousands of years, as evidenced by the pantheon of goddesses in Greek mythology. She mentions Artemis and Athena as independent, strategic, competitive and targeted women archetypes (Artemis the competitor, Athena the strategist). Unlike most analysts, who have a tendency to qualify these characteristics as part of our masculine animus, she points to these goddess archetypes as being wholly feminine and NOT simply a masculine animus. I found it really cathartic. And then I read Gods in Everyman, and found my true masculine animus archetype (Hermes), who isn't really the picture of what we normally consider definitively masculine, either. Pick up a copy of each if you get a chance. It's good for the feminine (and masculine) soul. -A- p.s. Weirdly enough, my primary goddess archetype was neither Artemis nor Athena, but Aphrodite. But knowing my inner Artemis wasn't my masculine animus somehow helped me rest into my inner Aphrodite. All very counterintuitive but super cool stuff.

Anyways, I have found myself losing my temper when people try to control my actions, or if people are not living up to my expectations. I spent most my life highly introverted with low self esteem. Slowly over years I was able to flip my behavior and view of myself. I'm still extremely hard on myself about everything. Point being I have been a real dick to a lot of people the last few years and this concept of accuracy seems like it can really help me.

Hi guys! I'm an ENTP and I keep running into the issue of being in a relationship where the other person isn't able to grow with me. For example they will have depression/anxiety and we sit down and talk about how all the things from her past are haunting her because she isn't forgiving and she isn't practicing good positive habits, and we come up with a game plan of things to do to be healthy, but they just never follow through... and I always end up getting hurt because all the bad habits get in the way of our love.

Joel, as a fellow ENFP, I'm curious as to whether you have experienced this, too: Sometimes when I interact with ENTPs it is kind of uncomfortable for me This isn't because I don't click with them. I think it has more to do with the juxtaposition of their Ti (accuracy process) and my Fi (authenticity process). I've always thought that because ENTPs and ENFPs both lead with Ne (exploration process) that the differences between our auxiliary processes (Ti vs. Fi) feel more profound for both types. Said another way, while it is true that when I talk to an ENTP I have this spooky simpatico Ne thing going on, my Fi keeps wanting the ENTP to "act authentically" and eventually I get annoyed when I can't connect with the ENTP on this level. Does this make any sense?
@joelmarkwitt
@joelmarkwitt 10 жыл бұрын
Yes! Makes perfect sense. It's like everything is clicking and then.... Wait what happened?? Also - I've found myself a little intimidated at times. ENTPs can be very good at stating their opinions and perspectives with great accuracy. Then I try and it feels like my perspective is a "jumbled mess." Sometimes I just feel "right" about something and I can't give you a clear, concise and accurate statement. So I can feel a little at a disadvantage or silly for having a position on something that I can't reason out for someone else. Then I remember at how good I am at helping others replicate emotions and I love having that skill. So I guess it's a yin-yang.

I am an ENTP and yes, we or at least I don't connect with most people. and its mostly because we want a certain level of anxiety in our life. unconsciously, our ideal environment is one where we can be quirky. and this may bother some people I guess. we do think about authenticity as well though, a bit too much if you ask me! entps have a grander picture in mind at all times!

Seems like opposing functions (Fe/Ti, Ne/Si etc.) work in tandem with each other in general.. by means over ends in their respective motives. Like a "mirrored effect" of some sort, or the same shoe size with a completely different brand.

I teach, so in that profession I must share my ideas and thoughts to everyone no matter who they are. At home though, I like to organize my thoughts and I don't generally like guests to stay more than 15 minutes. I feel like being able to switch between the two types keeps the other healthy and prepared.

I find ENTPs very difficult to get along with (as an INTJ). They are: * Constantly disagreeing, which is very tiring. * Dismissive, stubborn and not open-minded about exploring ideas. * Overestimate their ability and knowledge, seem to think they have more credibility than anyone else. * Missing the point- seems to always be having a different conversation than everyone else in the room is having. * Gets bored or offended and *completely* shuts down. *Surprisingly easy to offend, considering their propensity to argue over everything. (You cannot be straight with them and yet you are forced to debate, always ending in disaster).

ENTP Christians FTW! The bible is a fascinating book of truth. Really incredible. And it gives ENTPs the objective springboard for spiritual thinking that we need. The Bible as a guardrail helps focus extraverted intuition into truth and keeps it from wandering down into possibilities that are ultimately wrong but we wouldn't know until we've "explored" it. Hello Joel. I'm just starting to learn about the personality types, and I'm not 100% sure if I'm ENTP or INTP, and I was hoping I could get you're opinion. I really love to get out and try new thing's, and be spontanious, and I absolutely want to be more social, but I am am quite shy sometimes in social situation's and often way to 'up in my head'. I often find myself deep in thought analyzing everything, which makes my wonder if I'm an I. Although I don't consider myself to be independent, as I love spending time with people, making friend's and being social. I do enjoy spending time on my own maybe 1 quarter of the time. It's almost as if my body respond's like an INTP in social situation's sometimes by becoming tense and self conscious, but my mind desires to be 'the center of attention' and have a great social life! I'm confused !

Keep looking. Will Rogers said he never met a man he didn't like. First time I heard that I figured he hadn't met a lot of the people I knew. But I kept thinking about that quote and the "how" of it. For me the rise to that point happened at the same time as I was able to love everybody. Now when ever I meet or "remeet" someone, I immediately see something about them I like. I do live the motto "Love everybody, but don't let crazy people run your life." And even if I see something I like about them, and love is a given, I do still see them as an imperfect mortal. Point of this ramble? I can interact with a person who is a total what ever(insert undesirable trait) and still see and sincerely focus on something that I feel is commendable. Good luck. Peace.

I think people define them selfs on there results of the test rather than there actual personalty. Its easy to see someones elces personalty (that have taken the test) and to have a vague idea as what they will come out as. Try doing it with someone that has no idea about it and you will have a hard time. We have become a facade and it only takes a little self consciousness to realize we are more subtle and multifaceted than that.
@caLLLendar
@caLLLendar 8 жыл бұрын
+KZbin Lotto I think you are overlooking HOW the results are calculated. People DESCRIBE THEMSELVES to the test, and therefore, it is their actual personality (more or less). Another way to validate the results is to have someone who is close to the person do the test. A strong ENTP doesn't wake up one morning as an ISFJ. Therefore, the behavior pattern is generally predictable (and can be used as a tool).
@TheEconomicElder

+Drew Brown One of us! one of us! There is a strong desire to be part of a group. A group where certain behaviors are encouraged and others dismissed. There is no better cult than a personality cult. Its the embodiment of cultism. Take a test and we will tell you who you are and how you act. We will also tell you what wrong with your life and how to change it. Iv read all the different personalty types and could relate to all of them, some more than others but only with value judgments (something which is learned). p.s Half the people that take the test more than once come out as something different the next time. Thats because alot of people values change as they get older.

Truth is often antithetic to peace in the human realm. People often don't want to hear truth, it can unravel the worlds we've woven for ourselves. For this reason, I agree that one must be tactful or even abstinent in their pursuit of truth. However, I disagree that all people are created equal, this is naive. ENTP are fallible like everyone else, they can believe they advocate the truth when they in fact do not. ENTP's would do well to focus on introspection rather than accuracy. If we focus on accuracy, we will find not that people are equal, but that they are not. Perhaps a surprising side note: I take human rights very seriously, it's one of my highest passions (in spite of assumptions one might draw in reading this comment).

@antoniajdodge
@antoniajdodge 8 жыл бұрын
We get a lot of social pressure to act humble in order to make others feel better. But from my perspective the purpose of humility is to ensure we don't start thinking our value is higher than others in order to exploit them. In this context we're talking about the strengths an ENTP tends to bring to the table. We did the same for the other 15 types, meaning we focused on the positives for theoretically every person on the planet (if one takes the MB system seriously). So, contextually, this isn't an exploitative situation. Another way to look at it is: When addressing strengths/weaknesses, think in terms of 'modesty' instead of 'humility'. Modesty is acknowledging your limitations. That means you get to own when you're good at something, but you also have to own where/how you suck royally. Since there's no pressure to be something you're not you're able to take an honest assessment of where to place you're resources and therefore provide higher value to others. We're pretty useless if can't capitalize on our talents with skill development. You may hate a lack of humility, but I hate the false humility we're socialized into integrating. It's an idea that needs to die. -A-
