I've always loved Karla Bonoff. Her magnificent Angelic voice is an extension of her beautiful soul. So genuine and sincere and always the best at delivering her own songs. And her songs are among the best that have ever been written.

On this day in 1982 {May 8th} Karla Bonoff performed "Personally" on the Dick Clark ABC-TV Saturday-afternoon program 'American Bandstand'... And on May 23rd, 1982 it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at position #45; fourteen weeks later it would peak at #19 {for 2 weeks} and it spent 18 weeks on the Top 100... On June 27th it peaked at #3 {for 3 weeks} on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Tracks chart and spent almost a half-year on the chart {24 weeks}... On the same 'Bandstand' show she also performed her next release, "Please Be the One", and it reached #63 on the Top 100... Ms. Bonoff will celebrate her 66th birthday this coming December 27th {2017}... Note: This is just a guess, but this video certainly has that 'Bandstand' feel...

What a GREAT song! Terrific lyrics. Powerhouse delivery. Outstanding backing band -- especially that heartfelt saxophone solo from Phil Kenzie starting at 2:15. Check out his website and see the surprising number and range of contributions he made to some of the absolute best songs of the 70s. One might say he was the David Sanborn of that decade. This song will never grow old. Your grandchildren will love it.

Being Asian-Indian of the Tamil kind and living in Atlanta, the only place to see Tamil movies on a Saturday was at the Emory University student center with them projectors. On the way there particularly in '82, this song seemed to be on whenever the parents decided not to use the tape deck for south Indian music. The female students who were there looked like her but didn't have that swag. But the waitresses and working ones in Toco Hills and Clifton Road had it down. For this then 10 year old just a smile and a wave was good enough then.

Love this song then and still do. Tho, today, she'd have more choices to send 'it' using email, text, voicemail, Skype, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Messenger.... Even fax is almost a gonner.

Karla formed the group "Bryndle" with two of the musicians on this video, guitarist Andrew Gold (who personally had hits "Lonely Boy" and the theme to "Golden Girls" called "Thank You For Being A Friend", bassist Kenny Edwards (a founding member of "The Stone Ponies," with whom Ronstadt came to notoriety), and friend Wendy Waldman. They had a great sound, but never made it into the mainstream. See Andrew and Kenny backing Ronstadt on "When Will I Be Loved" on the "Midnight Special" here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKvXcqmPdt2fjKc They backed a young Jennifer Warnes singing "Right Time Of The Night" here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aGnHn4KDpc2taZI So wish they could have received the exposure they deserved. Look for Bryndle songs on KZbin.
