Several years ago I posted a comment on one of Banksy's fan boards. I don't remember exactly what the comment was, but I do remember that other Banksy fans wound up responding to my well-intentioned post with mean spirited derision. As I'm autistic, I'm somewhat used to this this sort of thing - but it still hurts. However, when Banksy saw the verbal bullying his fans were engaging in at my expense, he took it upon himself to post a response in my defense. It was a small act of kindness - but it's something that I will never forget.

Two of my family member are on the spectrum. My little sister and my nephew. The world tends to pick and poke at anyone who appears different form the group. Your strength is in your ability to never hold resentment towards those ignorant bully’s. You appear to be a thoughtful, aware, and strong young man. @@514HiphopHead​it can’t be him. 3D has quite a pronounced mole directly under his lower right eyelid, towards the outside corner of his eye. Footage of Banksy at 1:09:00 onwards in this video shows no mole under either of his eyes. If you have other suspects, check out their hands - it seems he has a pretty gnarly scar on his right thumb in the knuckle area. It’s large enough at the time of filming that you would assume it would still be visible today. Obviously it wouldn’t be red as shown here, but it’d be noticeable.

I have to do some research to get the complete story. I mean he created the piece with the mechanism and the frame…. It’s not like a random piece that he did on the wall that someone removed. I mean, I know most of his workers stencils so it’s not like there is paper that could be removed. So it seems there’s more to the story… How he got it in there, etc. etc. Although he certainly does things from time to time to play with the notion of value… Where he’ll be on the street or someone will be on the street at a card table selling his work for like $10. Do you know what I mean? I’m not saying he’s a genius, but he’s very very bright. And very very clever..

Amazing it didn't leak out beforehand. He kept the surprise 😂 My art teacher in high school who's a local artist, always used to explain art as something that provokes & awakens feeling, realisation etc. Banksy managed that to say the least 😂 the shock & horror on the faces of those people in the room. As a person from region known for its naive art, I doubt this kind of art would be still art is revaluated by you And religious art is rarely supposed to awaken people, it's just how author expresses their feelings. Modern art often provoke just to provoke, not to change, Baudrillardian stuff is happening. As video itself realized in first minutes, this art is about recognition, not change.Personal gain vs. social change. You can see in other comment that guy was bullied and Banksy stood by him and he was so happy, because it was HIM, not a person like me or you. Look, he's a god, but he still does humane things. Wow. And when normal person does humane things it's meh - enough reason to don't respect such artists. Banksy himself is kinda special here, because he makes upper middle class realize things that everybody knows already. Great, but what's the outcome of such knowledge? Nothing, because this class is neither willing (like low) or able (like high) to change things. But they can discuss and they "want to want", so they involve in pseudosocial (in analogy to pseudoscience), corporate driven changes. Plant a tree, sleep well... Oh sorry, not "sleep", but "change the world". Or better - buy product, they will plant the tree for you. And by that they will destroy even more, but you don't want to know about it, because maybe you'd need to actually start doing things. No, such art that would make people realize that, wouldn't be known, but buried deep. People in their sleep gets awakened and they don't realize they just entered another dream, where they are silent heroes. I should start something about fake changes to fake world, but nobody will get to that anyways - we aren't that self destructive, to rethink our actions we already deemed as good.

One of my favourite stories was a community centre which had a banksy painted on their door. From what I understand, the local council tried to take it away and the community centre wanted to sell it and use the money for the kids in the centre. They ended up writing to Banksy and asking him. Of course he came down on the side of the community centre. If art can make so much difference in society, you've got to take your hat off to the man...

True..... a crew rather than a dude. But there was still the amazing kid who got it together...( totally def free hand writer too remember)..... any half decent stencil job takes more than one pair of hands anyway.... to bomb like that today.... needs to be organised and arranged to a certain level....a serious caning could require a scaffold tower, hoarding tarps, some dodgy hi vis vests (a hi vis vest carries the same weight as the double parked car on the high street with it's hazards on ... you know it's malarky but you dont risk a challenge just in case) you'll need a person fluent in multi-modal kerb side blaggery and experienced in bullsh☆☆ to navigate any possible rozzer swerving (.....and the insurance !!! OK... kidding about the insurance but the way things are with scaffold hire.... I wouldn't be surprised... we bought ours 2nd hand just to avoid the possible shame of it.... could go on.... but cherry pickers and electric scissor lifts are for commissioned works.... and that is a completely different kettle of kobra altogether.

I wont split hairs.... what gets me sometimes is folk don't know graffiti / street art / stencils .... lots of people in awe at stencils ????? And they then say they hate tags and scribbles. A stencil IS a hit, quickie like a tag.... Always was.... as a writer, since '83.... there were stencils.... but to actually sell out from free hand TO GO stencil as a development is like a perversion of evolution, going backwards. Banksy can do both.... he is famous for his stencils... but he cut his teeth as a writer and still blends both. It's strictly fake ass liars, Eine types that need your style of ass kicking. The first thing I stole as a Detroit kid in the 90s was two cans of spraypaint, black and silver, Immediately spraying the back of the kmart I stole them from. I remember being chased away by security before I could finsh. I couldn't have been more than 8 years old at the time, but I remember seeing such amazing giant pieces around my house, and I wanted to imitate that art so badly. It was a city that had an amazing art and music scene in the late 90s as a teen. I was going to rave parties and saving money to get my own set of Technic SL-1200s. There was something about bringing art and music into the abandoned buildings, it was kinda intoxicating - like we were resurrecting the bones of the city every night with music and art. It was a good time to be creative and young. This was such a great walk through the history of the art and made me reflect on my own influences growing up.

@@tiagodagostini but think about it... The people are the threat and maybe they fear a lunatic with a knife about to slash a canvas. The attempting to self destruct art work was a one off. The frame was by Banksy, the stencil was by Banksy, and the combo had a certificate of authenticity from Banksy: what was the problem needing security? I was amused at how baroque the frame was. Nice ironic contrast with the simple image. And these frames have metal parts such as corner braces and other bits. I'm pretty sure Banksy would have put lots of visible and innocent looking metal everywhere he could so the real workings would only be detected when they did the x-ray... and they did. Hopefully the new owner will remove the battery before it starts to leak acid.

i cann't believe one man could have so many top ideas, even for the one exhibition, like in Bristol museum (Like, it's good to have one, two very strong works at the exhibition at average). I think that it's an original contemporary artist. He was able to make something new, of which in art, it's absolutely rare. The idea of making art with a strong message, proves that he's not doing it for the sake of making money, surely it's probably a person that can afford unique events, but today, in the contemporary art world, it sprayed an indelible mark.

I like Bansky. His art has a reason. He evoques happenings, in his own way. Depicting rats, policemen, a man throwing flowers, or whatever he considers related to his convictions or injustice which are not strange in this world, actually. I do support his works, whether he uses stencils, computers, graffiti or whatever. He is pointing out into social problems and hate when its about war, as in Ukraine or Palestine.

There is a lot of talent and skill among graffiti artists. There is also a great expression of protest and style. Banksy may not be the best graffiti artist out there, but he has a kind of humour and brilliance to what he does. not only he is not among the best . his ¨art¨ (more like free, easy publicity) is absolutely mediocre. no much talent is needed to use spray on templates. his concepts are basic af. no subtlety, nothing really original nor complex. they are designed so they can even be understood by a toddler. he's probably not even an artist, but one of those rich guys hidden behind an annon figure to see everyone this ¨rebel against capitalism¨narrative, while he sells his merch, gets free publicity on the streets and internet and people really fall for it. ridiculous. The auction was a prepared show, it's a win-win for both Bansky and the auctioneers: more publicity for him, a higher price on the piece. Auctions look at every detail on the pieces they sell in order to ensure they are original. there's no way they didn't know about the mechanism.

I'm sure Banksy is someone who has a direct connection to the band Massive Attack. Since the works in different parts of the world appear at the same time as the band arrives with their concert. It's not only about the world capitals, but also about cities like Kiev, Ukraine. Quite possibly Banksy is Robert "3D" Del Naja. He's from Bristol and is a famous graffiti artist, Banksy said that 3D's works have had a huge influence on him. Again, very often the work appears at the same time as the band's concerts in not the most touristy places.

So it's an alphabet and or tvstck program. Just wait two decades and we will have the expose for those who pay attention tonthese kinds of things. We had to wait until the last decade or so before the revelations of the groups coming out of laurel canyon in the 60s was revealed. It will be some time now before this "cultural touchstone" is shown to he rooted in the same kind soil.

I've always thought 3D was Banksy/Banksy was 3D. However you want to look at it. If not the same person than one is super talented in art and the other music. I saw Massive Attack live in Hong Kong in 2017 - I wouldn't be surprised if some new Bansky art appeared around HK. Just conjecture but it's interesting to speculate. ❤️

Grafitti has existed for millennia, though. It wasn't created in the 20th century. People have been leaving their mark on buildings - including some with social and political commentary - since before the Roman Empire. It's just something humans do.

Like Muhammad Ali for boxing , micheal Jordan for basketball , Banksy has been for art on the global scale. Personally I know more people who more than likely would’ve never grown to have any interest in art on any level , upon learning about Banksy and his art and his story they became fans first of Banksy but now appear to be genuine fans of art ! If the contribution of Banksy in the end is limited to making love of art more widespread many people might see that as nothing significant but I happen to see that as a pretty wonderful thing!

Style Wars was the bible, I literally watched it every single night before going out. The scene that had the most influence on me was when they showed the pics of Dondi bracing himself between the subway cars in order to reach the top. One of my favorite surfer/skater/street artists who has since evolved and is, sadly, struggling to pay his bills right now is a friend of mine named Jantzen Peake who used to live in Southern California, near Los Angeles. My wife and I met him at an arts and crafts fair in Redondot Beach about seventeen years ago and he had a small, color pencil drawing that just blew my wife and I away with the intense colors and his wild, bizarre, and intensely vivid imagination, that we bought it on the spot. We still have this small piece of art which we had framed, because he didn't even have the money to frame it, which is typical of many artists, which is even sometimes typical for my own art, but, anyway, we have purchased several of his pieces which adorn our apartment here in Chattanooga, Tennessee. People always comment on his art when they visit us. He can definitely do with some support as an artist. He lives in Colorado Springs and teaches local art classes, but, he's been dog-walking and scrounging up whatever kind of small gig jobs he can get just to try and stay afloat. You can find him on Instagram and Facebook. He always takes commissions and is always grateful for the patronage.

Words cannot remotely come close to a suitable defining description of what this idea takes. But art dies. A picture is worth way more than a thousand words. It is infinite in its ability to share a multitude of stories in a finite space. Even though I'm sure it's just as hard today as it was yesterday. Stay the course. Just as I'm sure you already know. There's so much more at stake, then some scrap pieces of paper and bits of metal. Our history, our truths, and yes maybe even our salvation. Thanks again. I really hate tagging, but, I love good street art. Art with a message is true art, on a wall or in an exhibition. I lived in Bristol for years, every year the streets were closed in the middle of town and scaffolding put up for the graffiti artists to put up new woks on the buildings for the Bristol "Love saves the day" music festival. Some really great works.

I don't know what art is, but by God, I'm gonna find out.

Some people on my local university plastic art faculties seem to think and s publicly expose not only their dismissal but plain disgust and bare hate on Banksy (mainly because it's popularity they argue) as if that attitude was somewhat dignifying for their own productions or careers. I've seen my share of art, every day I found the most original, genuine and paradigm breaking works somehow come from the people who aren't that obsessed with credit. I salute and admire Banksy's work without falling in the promiscuous antiquated rhetorical academicist trap neither: his art is challenging and inviting. his influence? undeniable. His proposal has more reach than formal traditional art- I feel his bottom statement is that art is an universal language. Be brave express yourself and LIVE as a declaration of war to inertia, act like a poetic disease to this mad society. Life is threatening, daring to live to express yourself freely it's scary, are you going to hide or what?

An important thing to consider is that as soon as the picture was "destroyed" It was like giving the person who won the auction an immediate return on investment. Notice how the picture stopped shredding half way through, that was not a bug, it was intentional. The piece was kept as a singular work, the importance of which is obvious to me, but I can't explain it. This is the highest level of "eating your cake and having it too."

I love Banksy and I think of him as one of the greatest artist of my generation. I wanted to say I believe he was the force that made Street Art popular, a movement, the latest avantguard and at the same time he was the one to destroy it. As a precursor he acted with intend, as a destroyer without intent. But this is how it goes with fame and art, it has a life of it own, you can't control it once it leaves the studio.

He could have walked away, but he didn't. That is choice. There was absolutely a point at which he/they/whatever KNEW that it had crossed the line into destructive energy. But they had that taste of fame and money at that point and they didn't want to give it up. They took the deal from the devil. And once that decision is made, you have to give up your soul. The entire that is banksy made a choice to kill its baby rather than give up the temporary thrill of fame and wealth.

Once in Manhattan I passed a large drawing on a building. It seemed at first graffiti, but soon realized it was an amazing political statement. I was so impressed. I had no knowledge of Banksy but as soon as I saw his work I realized the thing I saw was his.

I personally don’t care for him. But my opinion obviously means nothing to him and it shouldn’t, he’s the artist. Some ignorant comments on here from people who think just because they don’t understand something, it validates their opinions. Might be worth putting the time in to understand why art has become conceptual and why artists who were the first to do what they did have made history by changing our idea of what art is. I don’t appreciate all conceptual art, but I think the world would be a boring place if we didn’t have different tastes and we were just trying to make everything realistic or aesthetically pleasing.
