Perth has really come a long way since 1990 - I was 15 when this was filmed and remember everything in the video exactly as it was back then. How did the world get to be such a colossal nightmare 30 years later?

Equality, We emigrated to Perth in 1970. We could leave the house and car unlocked . We could walk around and not worry about anything. Prices were good , a house in a good area $ 14000 to $ 20000. What went wrong? Simple. People like us immigrants but black ones. That is what has changed. Even the Aboriginals have noticed.

Man I grew up on the streets of Perth in the 1990s, man seeing this has bought back so many memories. The video arcade “Orbit” on Barrack Street that was where I used to play video games with my childhood friends. I was a very shy, introspective child who had seen a lot of things about the realities of life. At the time I had been about nine years old. I used to do a lot of things with my mother as well. Seeing this video had night back a lot of memories, thank you heaps for posting it. I really do wish that “time travel” was real wouldn’t it be wonderful if we can somehow, someway travel back in time? Imagine all the mistakes that we have made in our lives and having the opportunity from what we know now being able to stop that from happening, (it may create a paradoxical effect) but really maybe if there was some way that we can just simply “go back” and explore our lives more wouldn’t that be a wonderful opportunity? It is a pity though that it is just in the realms of science fiction (maybe for now) but really being able to see our past lives again would definitely be a wonderful experience and being able to warn our younger selves to hopefully be able to make better decisions. Oh well, it is just a dream. Thank you heaps for this form of “time travel” even if it is only in this video clip.

This is magical. I love how peaceful it all looks -- it's like a ghost town. I lived in Perth from 1992-1998 as a teenager so this is slightly before my time, but every street is instantly familiar. Way more than it looks these days anyway. Thanks for filming it back in the day -- I took it for granted, hated it even. It's like a dream world now, though, looking back.

Great video. Lived and worked out in Perth in the noughties. Seems like a different person's life. At 7am on way to work, I used to get called a 'white c**t' at the train station by the locals, who'd spend their day drinking and chasing the transit police along William Street. Used to love walking laps of the city, running up and down Jacob's Ladder and hanging out in the Little Creatures brewery.

So much of childhood was spent visiting the city. Absolutely loved it. Buying cool pants at Renoirs, movies at Cinema City, saw Reservoir Dogs at the cinemas in the Entertainment Centre, books and games from White Dwarf, the bookshop under the horseshoe bridge, games from Tactics, arcade games Orbit or Timezone, spending HOURS in 48 Records or Da Da's, the old comic shop downstairs heading up towards Fast Eddies, a heavy metal music store upstairs in a small arcade no longer there, Primal piercing, my 18th birthday at Charlies Tavern on the corner, cocktails at Mangoes with the waitresses in blue lycra... It was a great childhood.

Paul thank you for this. 1990 was when i finished building my 1st home and i met my wife. Very strong nostalgic feelings from looking at this video. What hardware did you record this on as my memory is VHS recorders were still insanely expensive in 1990. I look forrward to watching your yanchep marine park video next.
@paulgleave98553 жыл бұрын
It was initially recorded on a ( very substandard) JVC VHS-C camcorder, then copied to a standard VHS full sized tape.
@Richo55662 жыл бұрын
288 lines of resolution in the PAL VHS and VHS-C format. TV transmissions were twice that so whenever you recorded anything you would lose half of the detail. S-VHS came out and bumped up the lines of resolution to 400 which was a big improvement but the cameras/vcr and tapes were more expensive.
