As a Canadian who lived in Australia, I wished for a preferential ballot. All my Australian friends wanted something simpler, like first-past-the-post. And that voting should be optional, since anybody who isn't paying attention shouldn't have a say in how a nation is run.

UK uses “first past the post” voting to maintain the status-quo. We now have three political parties that are all basically the same, an ever growing public sector and nobody stupid enough to set up their own company.
@casbot71 Жыл бұрын
As an Australian it's a really interesting topic that I've posted about on some of the American and British political channels I subscribe to - I'm a bit of a political junkie and Australian politics got a lot less interesting once we stopped knifing PM'S as a national sport. But by luck (and possibly by coming to the game so late that the system had the advantage of previous examples), Australia has one of the best models for determining elections in the world. Some of the highlights. Compulsory voting with automatic enrolment at 18 years of age - it forces the major parties to play to the mainstream instead of a highly motivated fringe [ahem ... MAGA]. Preferential ranked choice voting - you number your ballot with your 1st, then 2nd, then 3rd, up to at least 6. So, if you want to vote for a minor party, it's not a wasted vote, even if they don't win you can put which of the major parties you prefer somewhere on the list. It does give small niche parties a chance and means that other parties on your side of the political fence aren't just spoilers for your party - they're allies. [Preference swap deals are a thing]. That also means that the mainstream parties can kick out their extremist and let them form their own party without worrying too much that they've just committed electoral suicide. You don't lose your right to vote if you've been to jail (Except for a really long sentence), so ethnic groups that get targeted by the police don't become disenfranchised (ahem, USA). Imagine Britain or America under such a system. It's the only reason Australia has relatively sane governments. If we had the American system, for example, we'd be like Florida or Alabama. And if American had Australia's system, the rest of the Western world wouldn't be looking on at the Yanks in apprehension at the insanity of their domestic politics.

Historians like reviewing primary sources about events in the past. This seems to me to be the sort of primary source they'd love to get their hands on when reviewing the Russo-Ukrainain Wars. Of course, there would be many others as well. EDIT: I should have clarified that I meant "primary source" is the historical context. To a historian, every source from the time period, and in some cases, even soon after, counts as a primary source. Of course, some are better than others - expert opinions are more valuable than those of normies, eyewitness reports are more valuable than second-hand sources. Perun would be a non-eyewitness expert primary source to them. The whole historical method involves sifting through primary sources according to these metrics while also trying to sort out biases. It's not easy, as many sources simply do not survive given enough time.

Thank you so much for mentioning Czech Republic as one of the staunchest supporters! I´m Czech and we´re No. 1 when it comes to percentage of heavy weaponry stock given to Ukraine, but it rarely gets mentioned. Our government offers tax cuts to people who donate to buy weapons for Ukraine. And we have a huge tradition of donating to charity, which includes Ukraine. In December 2023 only, we collected 60 million Czech crowns for drones, vehicles, first aid kits and a helicopter. And we have a large community of people who give their last money to Ukraine, who transport aid in their vans in their free time. EDIT: Not saying this to boast and say "Czechia can´t do more". More like... it´s *incredibly frustrating* when your country is helping and your community is working their a**es off to help, but the news is basically "Europe is doing nothing". It makes Ukrainians sad. I know what it´s like to feel like nobody supports you (on an individual level), so I don´t want Ukrainians to feel like that.

One of the biggest things is compulsory turning up to the voting site. People call it compulsory voting but you can just write nothing on your ballot. It means if people get disgusted with the current politicians they still have to turn up and might choose someone new, with preferences that allows them to show their displeasure. In America those people just don’t vote and the die hards make up more and more of the voters.

He stuck too much to normal physics. The intent was clearly more of a kaiju-like duck that is still able to move and act normally. While seemingly ignoring that duck-sized Moskvas would probably have some physics-based issues as well, since scaling things _down_ (without making adjustments to deal with the altered physics at that size) doesn't really work too well, either. Though admittedly, scaling up is generally more difficult in most situations. I still think fighting a single giant duck would be less deadly either way, but I would have preferred an analysis based more closely on the intent of the question than on pure real-life physics.

As a 23yr old from the States, I can't thank you enough for what your channel has taught my friends and me for almost the last two years now. I am consistently in awe with your ability to keep us (and the greater audience) entertained with simply a powerpoint and exceptional humo(u)r. It's sparked discussions amongst the group of us (none in uniform, multidisciplined, but all with varying degrees of interest in military industry) that have lasted for hours and your weekly schedule has been a solid time for us to gather again after we've all spread out since our graduations. I wish you continued success and look forward to everything you produce, 500k is just around the corner and I can't think of anyone more deserving. Cheers!

My opinion: it takes a pretty special set of skills and intellectual abilities to research, assemble, script, perform and edit for release the extremely complicated topics covered by this channel. It takes a step beyond that to do so in a creative way with the right pace and entertainment value to get a couple of million people to watch the videos. So, for as much as Perun thanks the audience, I would like to thank Perun for finding his passion in this niche youtube world, and sharing it with us weekly. Best wishes for an exceptionally successful 2024 and beyond.

Perun going mostly unscripted is a gigachad moment showing how well thought out his content is. Entertainment or not, Perun has a neat way of cultivating a culture of introspection and reflection, something that is far too sparse in today's kneejerk media stream. It's a really humble acceptance of the fact that the picture will always be far too big for anyone to understand that I always love, consciously constraining the scope of discussions to allow for reasonable conclusions is just... neat. I'm grateful for Perun's videos and hope they'll continue into 2024 (except if burnout sets in; in that case you have my vote to step back and take care of yourself :3)

I know you partially avoided this for a while because you really don't understand why anyone cares about you specifically, so I wanted to leave a note that I do appreciate you doing it. While I know there are tons of great people on this planet and the ratio just seems very skewed online, it does help reinforce my own faith in humanity to see good people doing good work. There are a thousand ways someone in your position could have used this for self-enrichment or to push agendas. Even with the best of intentions these topics can be tricky. Alternatively, ego can become bloated and it becomes more about the personality/content creator than the topics being discussed. In keeping it humble, focusing on what is important, and putting in the hard work to keep information of high quality, you are doing a great service. Paradoxically it does also make you as a person more interesting and more deserving of the spotlight. A video like this does serve a purpose and a good one, so I appreciate you doing it especially since it isn't a comfortable topic for you. Again, thank you for everything you do. It has meant a lot to me personally on many different levels and I'm quite certain I'm far from alone in feeling this way.

I think this channel is more important than you realise. The Internet is very noisy these days with people trying to 'contest the information space', mostly with bullshit, to the point that people have almost given up on the Internet as a source of information about international affairs. There is something about the way you present that is very 'someone very knowledgeable with a craptonne of information and analysis about a very complex topic trying to condense it all down to a 1 hour timeslot' and not 'someone trying to manipulate opinions and feelings about a topic using tactics to capture attention span and manipulate the algorithm ' that is a real breath of fresh air. Also I can't help but note the lack of a Putin Perun, counting Bradleys in the desert.

I was in Tours, France in 1969. There were still bombed out buildings from world war II that had not been reconstructed at all, 25 years after the end of the war. It was sobering to say the least. I felt a surprisingly strong sense of relief when Perun revealed that, yes, he puts on similar (albeit more detailed and complex) PowerPoint Presentations like these he gives us in his professional life. I guess I've been more worried than I'd thought that the people in gov and industry were not receiving good enough information or anslysis on the most important and impactful conflicts of our time. I apparently have not only been disappointed in my gov's response (the US), in speed, attention, and intensity to Russia's brutal, nearly Medieval, invasion and occupation of Ukraine, but also quite worried that all these experts in gov (military, economics, and diplomacy) might not actually know what they're doing! 😳 There have been several significant developments in this war that I was able to predict in surprising accuracy and detail that seemed to be totally missed or ignored by those whose job it is to predict (and prevent!) these things... ...and as you may have guessed, I'm just some rando idiot on the internet! So, this has been a scary time. I know every time someone does a deep-dive analysis into what's going wrong and right with our military, no matter the conclusion, it always includes something to the effect of "Well, yes, despite these problems, the US military could feasibly wage at least 2 geographically opposite fronts in a World War at the same time with money and kit left over to secure the Middle." But from what I've seen with our slow, hesitant, seemingly eternal deliberations for every little thermal optical system we send Ukraine (when honestly, just chucking thousands of Bradleys across the Atlantic might be sufficient), I have lost a great deal of confidence in how much our military even really _could_ feasibly handle if it ever came to that. And it looks like our enemies all across the world have also gotten the same impression I have (mistaken or no) and are acting out in very predictable, potentially terrible, destructive ways. Anyway, watching Perun all this time during the war in Ukraine, I've seen how logistics does take time to set up and get right and move seemlessly and continously, so I really hope the big hold-up is in that area, and that once we ciear a few of those hurdles and set Ukraine up solid, we'll see the advances we all know the very brave, creative, compassionate, and intelligent Ukrainian heroes are ready to make. Anyway, all this is to say, thank you, Perun! I'm so relieved you do this (but better!) in your day job! And, of course, Slava Ukraini 🇺🇦
