Morning! I was having a moment today. I realized I've watched you go through so many life events. I was there with when you got locked out of your original channel and graduating from high school. I appreciate you being a constant in my life.

I listened to The Games Gods Play on audio and the moment Hades was described as God of Death, when he is infact the God of the Dead (Thanatos is the God of Death) I knew we were in for a bad time. It frustated me so much because it's such a big mistake, which can easily be googled 😅

I do think that sometimes TikTok blows books up and some creators make what people want to hear apposed to the truth. I always appreciate your views, because if it’s bad, then I know you aren’t afraid to say it. ❤

I love that I can always come to you to validate my opinions on romantasy!!! I’m 100 pages into the games gods play and will most likely DNF. I 100% agree that it reads like bad fanfic and am so disappointed 😭

It’s so funny because I enjoyed TGGP so much while I usually don’t enjoy most popular romantasy. To me it completely delivered on the Percy Jackson + Hunger Games romantasy aspect. I also feel like Hades/Lyra relationship was voluntarily not fully developed because of the following books. I was also annoyed at the immediate pet name but it’s also explained later.

I just gave The Games Gods Play 3 stars, but I also can’t disagree with a single one of your criticisms lol. I think I was just in a good place to turn my brain completely off for a while. But I did think 12 trials was about 2x too many, and the characterization of both Lyra and Hades was bad. Still had an ok time reading it though lol

The Games Gods Play sounds good in theory, but as I've learned to expect from popular romantasy books, the execution sounds terrible. Romantasy authors need to learn about pacing, like if they're going to write 500 pages books, they might as well learn the definitions of slow-burn and yearning, I don't want male leads calling heroines pet-names within the first chapter, I want intrigued looks, subtle curiosity and growing fondness... so that when the romance eventually does happen, it feels rewarding and like I'm fully into it/rooting for the characters. And tbqh, me loves power imbalance tropes as a guilty (as charged) pleasure, so this could have been right up my alley if it had been written properly (and not in the first person lol) I didn't intend to pick it up from reading the summary/sample, but you mentioning the Sassy MC Syndrome definitely /convinced/ me it's not for me.

So, I love romantasy. But when I saw this pop up on your last video as a book you wanted to read I thought oh no, not THAT one 😂. I tried a physical read, an immersion read and then just audio and had to DNF. I’m like it should not be this much work for me to focus enough to read a book 😂

I also didnt enjoy The Games Gods Play for a lot of the same reasons. Also, the author ended her chapters at the weirdest points - several whole chapters should've been combined into one on multiple occasions. I am fine if a chapter ends right in the middle of a scene, especially if theres a shocking comment or event and it gives a "cliffhanger" feel, but she did this so much.

I feel so validated. I was looking forward to this book so much and it was such a let down. And it has such a good rating on Goodreads! I thought there was something wrong with me when I DNF'd it. I'm so glad to hear I likely made the right choice.

I tried The Games Gods Play around when it came out and DNFd at around 150 pages so I applaud you for finishing it! for me it was pacing, the sassy main character syndrome, and overall lack of editing that made me give up on it (errors, not streamlined, and should not have been that long). There was one chapter around the first trial that ended with a character saying something like "we are going to drown - the water is getting higher" and then the VERY next page, start of next chapter it starts with "The tide isn't coming in, it's going out." I was like ???? What? so are they drowning or not?? lol. Anyway, I relate hard to your experience with this one. When I saw on your insta that you were going to read it I said "oh no.." to myself. But anyway, I always look forward to your videos and thoughts on books. Thank you for the distraction from this week!
