Absolutely loved this. There's enough of a difference, between PES2019 and PES2020, that a number of our old defensive tricks can't carry us through games in the new version. This video has really helped me understand how defending "should" be done in 2020! Next stop - practice field, to try out these kind of tips!

That free kick defensive wall / goal keeper advice is gold dust thanks Spoony. It infuriates me how any free kicks between about 20 to 30 yards out are guaranteed goals for the opposition in this game. It’s gotten to the point where I prefer letting them come into my box over conceding the foul for a set piece. One of the worst things about PES 2020

This has been a very useful video, I used to think that the only way to defend was to position yourself in front of the ball, then tap A (or X for PS4) and hope for the best. The Right Trigger to jockey was new to me and it opened up a new line together with the super cancel. No more getting stuck behind a player shielding the ball. PES has been a bit less frustrating since I saw this video yesterday.

I don't think so, i have checked my button and it is appropriate with default button. May relate with my defensive instruction? Because I always use all out defense & aggresive. And I ever got it when i played in other ps4. This is very detrimental to me so I get a few penalty kicks, because I did tackle in the penalty box.

Well, most of my tutorials will work for FUMA mode because the only difference is the manual passing/shooting which is point and pass/shoot so don't feel that needs explaining. I need to do something for the advanced throughball as that's kinda different in execution.

Outstanding video. Thanks so much. One of my biggest issues is stopping the CF turning against my CB when he receives the ball in front of goal. I've realised it's my habit of keeping the R1 button pressed because I want to shut the space down straight away... sometimes end up with my CB running past the CF leaving him free to literally turn and get the shot off.

Thanks Spoony this is great, but one thing I'd like to add to controlling your keeper during your opponents' free kick is positioning your keeper to the middle of the goalposts.. You can do that by pressing and holding down the "Y" button (PS) while navigating him up or down, forward or backward depending on the camera angle.. -It works well especially preventing any gap bias the keeper leaves in the goalposts during free kicks. -It all prevents players who fake aim to deceive you in free kicks. (I can show you how fake aiming is also done)

If you position in the middle you'll concede if the ball is struck hard into either corner mate. The method shown in this video... I've yet to concede... although waiting for a deflected shot to go powerfully to the opposite side they're aiming.

@@SpoonyPizzas Your method is good and I've been using it...but it doesn't do well when your opponent fakes aim at an angle but shoots a different angle..you have 20% saving change when your opponent tricks you that way whiles you control your keeper to that direction

My biggest weakness in defending is always accidentally selecting the wrong player when I'm expecting someone else. Still cant get used to the logic of switching player the farthest end of where the ball is going instead of my player who is closest to the ball. Any tips? Problem is when the AI is playing too fast (passing a lot) i sometjmes can't just get to switch to the right player. Sometimes i expect the player closer to the ball to switch to, but end up the other one, which cause my defend to open up free pass for the AI to run away. Tbh i find the player switching sometimes is soooo annoying

Not sure if this can be categorised in defending - I was thinking of defending from an opponent's goal kick. I usually use super cancel to avoid my defender getting held off by their striker, then when I know where the ball is going to land, I'll move in front of the opponent and now I hold him off for an easy header 😂

Admittedly, it's not the most immersive cam but whenever I switch to either stadium or broadcast, the angle throws me off so much, I either concede easy goals or squander great opportunities. I ultimately end up switching back to blimp. Do you ever find yourself being disoriented by the camera angle on stadium?

The key is to charge into them..if they get the ball it's a 50/50 guess with super cancel but I'll see if I can capture it. Sadly the AI didn't do this once during these matches but I know they do it.

Hey bro slightly off topic here but looking for advice/help.My fav skill move to pull off over the years is the step over.With auto feint on skill moves are generally easier to pull off apart from the step over.With auto feint off skill moves are a little more challenging to pull off but step over becomes easier 😂😂😂Am I missing something here???Cheers

Haha yeah it is a bit more difficult to do the step over (hold R2+r-stick 90 degrees from way player is facing) but after a bit of practice not too bad / difficult to do.

When I play, I often find my 2 last defenders just running away from the attacking player trying to guard another player which clearly is stupid as the attacking player is already in the box. I have been losing 8-0 and it’s always because my last 2 players don’t even chase the attacking player. I called for a secondary player, jockey, swarm the player and they just stand there stupidly watching. What is the problem with my players?

Tactics, don't use conservative or all our defence or deep defensive line or swarm the box. Also.... Set defensive line to 8. That's nice sweet spot. If you like defending edge of box...it's 4.

Although some games on kickoff mode, are reasonable, some matches in ML are completely decided and scripted, your players will stand and score owngoals. I won't recommend this PES and FIFA shits even to my enemies

the controls in this game is too clunky before you can do all this you are fighting between player switching, dumb defenders letting the ball go and if you get to the AI player you are on their ass like some erotic shit about to go down and then the AI shield like ironman and boom goal. This game is frustrating but its too late to buy FIFA 20 so 2021 am all FIFA, Playing pes is harder than playing football in real life
