SpoonyPizzas here guys, I received a request to create a counter attacking formation, but he said he likes to defend deep in numbers. I believe this is the perfect solution! We look at the strengths and weaknesses of Wide Containment and also Counter Attack over Possession and Long Ball over Short Pass and how to get the most out of this formation and tactic! Definitely not one to miss!

Just to add... If you're playing on default teams where most are using deep defensive line it won't be all that effective. If you're using Klashman tactics or just disable Deep defensive line for all teams then this will work so well. Works online too

Very good video, Spoony, it answers a lot of questions not only in KZbin but also in Discord. Well, the question was about a formation that permits to stay behind the ball, thus this formation favours a lot the counter- even though that ball possession is also possible to some extent. I find one aspect important, so that anywho uses this gamestyle must have in his mind. This formation has high compactness, thus the wings are pretty much uncovered. It works prefectly with formations that attack from the center or reverse-foot tactics, like Liverpool (from what we saw in the video) but it offers little things against formations that prefer to keep their wingers wide and use a lot the overlap tactics for free headers, like teams who keep the strong foot in the certain wing (right-footed player to the right wing and left-footed player to the left wing), like Benfica. The best counter for this is to have CBs with high capability in headers and high value of jump, no matter what the trait is, and do not use the Anchorman advanced tactic, so as to be able to deposition your DMFs to the wing if need be. The strong and good in the air CBs will outpower any High For CF in your box and will gain the ball back. As Spoony has said, speed is important, as a slow player will not be able to counter any dashes. As usual, I recommend to combine different traits, so as not to diverse your SSs into the box, but will go out to receive the ball and exploit possible holes into the opponent formation or any holes from depositioning. But.... You wouldn't score the goal like Florenzi ;). Lol. Need my FB for attacking / possession play otherwise it becomes rather narrow. (Offline, narrow online is fine/meta). Just to add, the DMs will fill in for FBs who advance forward as they're anchors

I know I'm probably really late to this video but does this formation still work against the gameplay mods out there (hollands, twiggy, etc)? I'm having a significantly hard time scoring against the AI on professional with those gameplay mods. The AI backs always seem to be faster than my players during through balls(even if my players are higher rated) and I can't seem to counter fast enough, hopefully this formation will help against the AI!

Great work 👍🏽 what about mentality when playing against AI? Would you recommend matching the AI's intensity by pushing it up to red when they go red? Or push it down to blue when they go red?

Good question, I just left it as neutral during the two matches, scoring 10 and conceding 2 or 3. It really does depend on their formation...where there players are on the pitch. As each formation opponent uses can be different. If there's a big gap between your players and theirs when they have the ball, then you need to go 1 red. If there's a big gap between your midfield and defence and they're exploiting it then go 1 blue. If you feel comfortable and they're not creating, leave it as is

After last update, the game become more scripting on online.... and the symptoms are the same as fifa :(. 1. shifting the cursor weird 2. on 3-4 sometimes 5 in a row your team loose 1on1 battle unnaturally 3. the team become disconnected with the ball while the Opponent become like having a magnet and knows the future 4. when the momentum on to you, no matter which direction you shoot, the game will choose one direction to make a goal Etc...... It‘s really bad for the game industries.

How about using short pass with counter attack? I play a diamond 442 with Man U in master league, and use that, with only my CF being counter target, so my ss can come back and connect with my AMF on the break out.

They're good, better than default but... If it's a cup match it can be a bit silly if the AI is losing and goes all out attack and you'll rack up a cricket score like 8 goals+

At least 1 SS. I thought two CFs would be better but after testing... It's important to have 2 SSs imo. The play styles are so important here too as that's what breaks defences.

Hi spoony. Nice tactics again. I'm falling out of love with the game. Nothing seems to work, am winning matches by pure luck. No tactics seem to work and am always outnumbered even if i adjust the attacks level. Just can't seem to find a tactic that works. I really like the style of lfc( even if am a Man utd diehard), the way the counter as well as dominate. But i cant find any tactics that allows me to enjoy the game. Any help on this

I'd stick with possession, FLP and aggressive pressing. I find counter leaves you with fewer options although, possession is a slower build up...so it depends on your set of players and what you want to achieve

Thanks dude, I practiced a bit with other players and roles. These are definitely the best roles and way to play it. It can work for those teams but see my pinned comment.

I wanted to ask if you have any tip regarding this : basically I want to score long range goals. But in every time I take a shot , it gets blocked or there is a lot of crowding at the d top. Is there any special tactic or formation which is meant for taking long shots ? This might sound dumb 😅

Not a dumb question mate, but DMs as Orchestra work well as they tend to run onto clearances. Also, if you get into wide positions, the opposition whole team drops into the box. Play a throughball backwards to score more long rangers. Activating manual shooting increases chances of scoring long range shots too.
