My biggest problem with the game is the lack of AI player ID that they had all the way back in PES 6 - 13. I should be scared of facing a Messi or even Adama yet every winger plays the same.

I've watched your videos going back to PES 18 and found out small details I didn't even knew existed in the game's mechanic. As for Konami's physics input for the game, I hope they continue coupled with an improvement in gameplay (e.g. ai defenders, same team player detection, referee calls etc).

Knight MD, your a god of football game analysis and I hope one of the new football games in development sign you up as a playtester/adviser, you have explained all of my frustrations with the game to a scientific level and given solid answers to them problems in a way that can be coded, bravo sir! I play in the WAPES league you mention and all the problems you have shown here are issues but less so due to the lack of AI involved but my biggest gripe is that the foul system you mention allows people to defend in a way I call the "Zombie press" which is basically full sprint into the character into possession with super cancel that causes a chaotic reaction which is usually not given as a foul, just fixing this alone would make most players in our league hold off on defending and cover the spaces with jockey which would present a much more realistic looking 11vs11 match

Counter suggestion to your proposed manual dribbling system: With the the new generation of controllers here, why not use a manual sprint function based on the degree of the spring button being held down? You could take the concept of having an manual sprint mechanic based on how far the sprint (R2 on PS5 controller) is held down from it's initial starting point and integrate it with the Left stick dribbling tilt mechanic to take it to another level. This would also allow for a more natural acceleration process, where a player could gradually hold the sprint button down from null to max, sort of simulating messi going from 0 to 100 in his long dribble runs. - Right stick dribble - Left stick dribble (Tilt degree from inner dead zone) - Manual Sprint (Degree in which R2 would be held down from starting point to fully held down, with just being held down being a "just sprinting with ball" to full held down being max speed for said player. ) - Sprint tap ( 1,2,3) In this system, you could also incorporate the taps for pushing the ball further out, but with the added nuance of how hard you tap the trigger down dictates how far it goes. - Light tap (x1) - Medium Tap (x1) - Full Tap (x1) - Light tap (x2) - Medium Tap (x2) - Full Tap (x3) - Light tap (x3) - Medium Tap (x3) - Full Tap (x3) So you could have a system where a player could fluidly accelerate or decelerate, knock the ball on, finesse dribble, or normal dribble, all with technical precision whilst being able to fluidly being able to change between the differing speeds. Just my two pence.

Regarding the refs, machine learning seems like it would be the way to go in the future, showing the ai thousands of pictures of fouls and not fouls, then it can apply that in game. Re: passing behind the receiver I think the only way u can make a pass from directly behind the receiver is to aim it on the future location where the front leg will be. Playing 11v11 I've gotten used to this as the offball player are humans, if they are on that kind of forward moving stride, they are telling me they want the ball in front of them. Otherwise, the human controlled players can just hold R2 when offball, to orient their body to me, the ball holder. That way I can see that they want to receive the ball on the closer side to me, and I'll hit it at that location. So, in other words, I don't think the missing animation is on the first touch. The AI players are showing they want the pass in front of them, signaled through the way they are strolling forward. What they are missing tho, is the human offball R2, where the player has the strafing animation when without ball, and facing you, body gesture communicating to you that he wants to receive the ball on the closer side. Anyway, playing 11v11 has got me accustomed to playing the pass my receiver wants, and not the one I want. So these little things where the receiver body gesture telegraphs to me, is very important, and I think the AI is missing some of that, compared to fully intelligent human beings controlling the offball players

The level of detail put into this video is truly remarkable. Just the in-game footage alone is gargantuan in size over the 1.36hrs. You're a pro manual player. I know hindsight's a bitch, but it would've been nice to see your controller commands on screen to see your actions. I just wanna play PES after watching. Can't believe I've just watched a movies lenght worth of a video on PES but here I am. Brilliant review. The most in depth I've ever seen. There's two things I'm actually surprised you didn't mention regarding FUMA gameplay. 1) the reliance on super-cancel moving your forwards when you feed them a through pass. Do you just not use it (as much) as I know I do? I feel it's essential to do this for the attacker to receive the way I intended to. 2) somethings that really annoys me. when you press L1 before receiving the ball for example to initiate either a one-two or an early cross the game would switch away from your player. The same thing does not happen on assisted passing. Like the game measures if differently whether you have offensive or defensive controls compared to assisted setting. Annoys the hell out of me.

Brilliant video, absolutely outstanding. But, I feel you’re being too generous to PES. When you mention the motion capture and specifically show an example of Messi, and how his left leg is already in motion, meaning he takes an extra second to react - what’s the case then where players will take an extra 2-3 steps away from the ball before reacting? That can’t all be one frame. PES can be amazing, as showcased here, especially with the community modded content, but the reality is, it’s flaws can really take the shine off it. This game smashes FIFA out of the water, which is why it’s frustrating seeing PES miss up simple things which FIFA doesn’t. Things like (on assisted passing) the ball not going to players/ out of play. Players dribbling the ball out (on FIFA, they auto slide to do everything they can to keep the ball in). Some of the AI can be really poor in PES at times, and for me, let’s the game down.

Just some additions that could have made this game better from the POV of Squad tactics/Player edits: Player Skills should be separated into two categories: Player Traits (which govern player behaviour and Tendencies) and Player Skills ( what they can do with the ball). Players should be able to have more than ten skills, or maybe have that reserved for the top tier players. For example. Cristiano Ronaldo should be able to do: - (Skills) high speed scissors feint, Elastico, Sombrero, Cross over town, Inside bounce, Step on ball control, Rabona, Penalty Specialist - (Shooting) heading, Mid range curler, Long Range shooting, Knuckle shot, dipping shot, acrobatic Finishing, one time shot, Heel trick - (Passing) One Touch Pass, No look pass, Low Lofted Pass, Then they could expand upon traits by integrating them further with their Player ID system, adding more traits, and possibly allowing certain players to have multiple play styles. CR7 Traits could be: - (Traits) - Fighting Spirit, Captaincy, - (Play styles) - Prolific winger, Fox in the Box, Advanced striker This is all hypothetical, I just want a better player/squad system with more unique feels to the player. Great video as always!!! I can never get past the robotic running on PES (every single player has the same run animation wtf). Granted, I'm only a casual offline gamer and Fifa(fifa19 to be precise, 20 and 21 are trash) meets my basic gaming needs even though I'd still want some more realistic game play from either franchise. Right now Fifa gets that balance right for casual gamers imo.

I’ve been practicing this days with manual shooting and holy cow! I just realized that it’s so much better than normal shooting. I love it so much but like you said on 27:09 it’s quite difficult to shoot when you are on the center because the analog stick needs just a little tiny millimeters movement that it’s really hard to perform consistently. In an online match it almost force me to use normal shooting in those types of situations. Other than that manual it’s the superior way of playing if you want accuracy in front of goal like I needed. I’ve got to say tho passes are way easier to learn than shooting.

Oh man, PES looks so much better than fifa in terms of graphics and physics. Also those detailed passing stats or traits looks amazing! I'll try PES demo this year and decide which one to buy.

Just finally started to use FUMA,, I mean, I tried before and it was just too hard lol. And ended up with manual passing but advanced shooting. But then Just started using FUMA and missing every single shots at first, I missed like 2/3 sitters a match. But it was fun to finally score goals using full manual controls. I mostly play offline only, usually only Be a Legend but also played Master League sometimes. Which is why I just don’t think the PES 2022- *ahem* eFootball 2022 is just not for me, since they’re going for the FIFA route to make more profit. Just wanna say I’m just glad I found one of your realism videos at the end of last year and finally got the mods. It was just beautiful. Oh, also great video! I rarely watches videos over 30 mins on KZbin but this one’s just interesting.
