At about the time that the new mill was built at Pesantren and the adjacent old one closed, numerous Mallet locomotives were brought in from the mill at Ngadiredjo, This allowed the withdrawal of most of the original steam locomotives with the exception of Orenstein and Koppel 0-8-0T 8 and 9 which soldiered on into the 1990s. This video shows them in the closing years of their service.

That time of the year, there's still usable tram line between Pesantren to Kediri Station. I was lucky enough to witness when they move the factory loco somewhere when they pass in front of "Baptis hospital".

This is incredible to hear. I would guess this is the last of its kind. Maybe the mill's own line at Semboro to Tanggul is still serviceable, also at Jatiroto? Once upon a time even to the 1970s) most of the mills had a cape gauge connection and some their own steam loco to workit. (Gondang, Tasikmadu, Jatiroto, Semboro).

I like how everything can be seen from the public then. These days it's completely walled off.

Yes, for a long time, even if we had permission we never bothered to 'sign in', I think the office was actually at the old mill so no one seemed to care. Not far away at Merican it was even more public but within two minutes of arriving the Satpam would appear and take you to the office to pay the admission fee!

Both came from PG Ngadiredjo in the 1970s, on my visit there in 1977 I saw no less than 13 of them. Looking at the numbers there were probably just over 20 originally!

@@internationalsteam In a hindsight, in just thinking what if museums like Statfold Barn, Frankfurt Feldbahnmuseum and the rest existed back then in the 80s? Maybe more steam locos would've been saved.
