Eurovision is my passion. Eurovision was my work and I am still gladly part of the professional community of this project. I started at Eurovision 2016 as Czech Head of Delegation. Such a Eurovision story! Form Eurovision in Sweden I went to antoher ESC experience. Kiiv 2017 Eurovision. This was my first and last failiur. Sometimes you need to learn trough losing even it is not plasant. We ended up 13 in the semifinal, second best score of Eurovision Czechia back then. But after this we established ESCZ national selection format. It was mostly held online. Because of this we found Mikolas Josef who went 6th at Eurovision 2018 in Portugal. Than 11th with Lake Malawi, at Eurovision 2019 in Tel Aviv, Israel.
Eurovision story is crazy. After finding all candidates and songs (-1) for ESCZ 2020 I resigned and left the television for working freelance.
Not to stop being part of Eurovision, I created this channel as I have an urge not to do just Eurovision Reactions from a different perspective. But also to do national selection reactions, watch others how they do their craft and also give a different approach for Eurovision fans.
I am very glad was part of many eurovision juries. Mostly in national selection and since 2017 I was in MGP Norway, Eurovision Malta, UMK national selection Finland. Juror in Melodifestivalen 2016. Biggest national selection. Also helped Eurovision Ireland, Eurovision Estonia, Eurovision Azerbaijan and many others.

Hristina vas the best in this first semi, as a package, but I am not convinced she would go through from the place Serbia has in the running order. Still, it was so well done from start to finish. Zorja is a magnificent vocalist and she blew my mind with her singing. Stagging wasn't that great but it can be changed. The song is impactful but her vocals are what would get people to say WOW and to remember her, she is really spectacular. We will see what will happen in the second semi, I am hoping for something even better

Zorja is the only contender for the win from semi 1. Breskvica, putting aside flirting with nationalism, had the worst staging by far. It looked like something from Eurovision 2005, just plain bad. Semi 2 is expected to be much better, so I'm excited for that.

for me Hristina by far, but if they change the staging for Zorja, the song could stand-out at Eurovision. She sings flawlesly also!

I can see Zorjas team changing the led animation, but I doubt they will take away the ending. As for Breskvica, the staging is very weak. The GOT idea was fine, but the animation is low quality. I like both songs. I would choose Zorja from those two. We will see what semi 2 will bring us.

Regarding theatrical performances - I think it's b/c of 2 reasons: first, we tend to take competitions of any kind seriously in general, to the point of overdoing it. In order to do so, they hired famous theather director to stage a performance, and that's why they look too theatrical, and have a storytelling that is not very important to the average viewer, as you said and I agree. But, as most smaller countries, I think we do have a bit of an inferiority complex (my countrypeople will now come at me :D) and in order to fight it, we want to express ourselves as cultured, even in an event such is Eurovision - I do hope that we will move to more fun concepts that make enjoyable, not "high art" tv experience. On the other hand, it worked with Molitva and In corpore sano, so why not? Second one is more important IMO - we simply don't have money to do "modern tv" kind of performances. Most of the artists are up and coming, and apart from few not in the genres that are hugely popular and bring them money. So, despite RTS funding I think they simply have no money for huge stage productions. When there is, there are ideas too - I'd suggest you to look up Sara Jo's (runner up from 2022) performance - it's on Melfest level, but I heard it costed 30K euros, which is simply too much money for the most of them. Regarding camera shots - I do agree, they are still a bit dated and sometimes misplaced. But I'm satisfied - festival has modernized in terms of music, which is the most important part, b/c it will attract even better performers in the upcoming years, I hope. So, as RTS changed the direction of the selection, I guess with more experience (and knowing that PZE became commercial succes, with over 1.3 million viewers) will do the same with overall productin: more fresh ideas, fresh new people, more money to make better stagings, to maybe invest in educating the crew (f.e. sending them - directors, cameramen to Sweden to craft their skills). And some things you've said are just mark of your personal preference or lack of information/context - f.e. Breskvica's staging did add the layers to the song (not that I particulary like it, but it did), but as you said, you lost it. And there I'm the opposite of you - that song does nothing for me, but I started to like it more because of the performance. And Lena is definitely not a "local thing" - usually you have good insights, but you completely missed the mark of this one. Her song is literally influenced by universal genres, like jazz, soul, and mostly afro-beat, which is definitely not Serbian - it's literally like something from Cafe del mar compilations :) Even her styling (that head piece was WTF) looks more Turkish than Serbian. Personally I prefer it waaaaaay more than Bedem, which is such an unremarkable song in itself, like 1000 times more ordinary than Zovi me Lena, and for me the textbook jury bait ESC cliche. Other disagreement is I see nothing exotic in No no no, since here they make songs like this on a daily basis - but I do agree it's too local. This is my 2 cents. Anyway, good reaction, as usual.

Hahah! But I exactly said this about Lena, watch the full video :)) Btw thx for such a complex reaction! I believe so many things are not about money. f.e. Norway stopped to use LED screen in their selection and bet all to lightshow and props (can and does not to be expensive). Ofc you just cannot that simply colerate to Melfest but as you see Bedem - this got a face. Its more about learn how else you can sell it on stage. Sometimes simplicity is the key. I think we can compare PZE to Portugal's Festival de Cancao and you can tell the difference. Sometimes using a different types of lense on cameras do wonders. This is a bit outtdated approach but its far for me to criticize it. But more likely a pitty fact which can be improved over time. Also stagings - to educate - what actually might be possible. I remember how we massively improved in Lets Dance Slovakia, after they were open to listen. Even there is still massive gap to lets say - SVT - you can simply know its possible. 90% is a creative approach and realisation. Money is just a limit for things you sometimes might not need. Probably also not taking so many acts would help as this ofc is costly (also cuz of time) to bring so many ideas alive properly.

easy to compare PZE to Melodifestivalen where an average salary in Sweden is 2.5-3k euro, whilst in Serbia it's 400eur. Our graphics and the whole stage design will surely be of lesser quality than Melodifestivalen because the artists can only work with so much budget....most of them go in debt to be able to compete. I still remember to this day that Marija Šerifović's mum sold her apartment so Marija can go and compete...I do agree with you that less is more and that Breskvica's graphics were shi+, but I also don't like our contest being compared to Melodifestivalen. People do the same to Moldova, and it's the poorest country in Europe....of course their performances will look low budget but it doesn't mean the songs are bad... life isn't fair but at least we are able to have awareness.

Its one of the looks, the other hand - creatives receives 3k in Sweden, graphics 300e in Croatia, but they still do the same job. ... its not about money rly. And also - f.e. Norway, where salaries are even higher, they had no LED screen. Mostly its not about it. I think its more likely about the approach. And here we can see its more "critics" towards the visuals are going the way, they are not in coleration with a tempo, which you can synchronize with - camera movement, cuts, light desing and graphics in led or movements of the artists. Ideally combine. So its not a money issue. If we still in east will play this card we will - never rise our salaries, we will never learn and we will be poor victims of our own excuses.

@@colinafobe2152 +1. I have watched some Baby Lasagna interviews, and kept thinking how nice, well spoken, well mannered and talented the boy is - neighbours should be proud just for that alone. And then, as I wrote this, I imagined that creature representing Serbia and I felt shame just at the prospect of it. She's goddamn appalling in every way imaginable. Literally the epitome of what is wrong with society. Words cannot describe how much I despise everything she represents.
