I used my neighbours mower to test it out before buying, i now have one in my garage. The thing i LOVE about it is, as a 6'3 guy, the handle is angled enough and long enough that im no longer hunching over a tiny mower, and the thumb press go-button is a godsend, no more mechanical pushing!

After weeks of watching reviews and researching battery mowers, I think this video helped me make my decision on my next mower for next year, when I retire my 14 year old Honda. Having Milwaukee tools already is also a bonus. I mulch so the cheap bag is a non issue and when I make my first round by the fence, I go the opposite way you were going, so also a non-issue.

Three years ago I bought a Ryobi 40V 21” electric mower. I have perennial rye grass on .25 acre. I noticed that if I cut my lawn at 3 or 4 inches, it works great. But, I want to maintain my lawn at either 1 or 2 inches. My electric can’t handle it. It just can’t push through the thick lawn at that height. I’m so fed up that I’m ready to go back to a gas mower. I don’t have the budget for a reel mower, so I was thinking of going with a high-quality gas walk-behind model like a Toro Super Recycler or Honda HRX217. Am thinking about this all wrong? All the stores are pushing electric and claim they match the performance of gas, but for my specific needs I’m not sure I buy it. Thoughts? What would you do?
@pestandlawnginja5 ай бұрын
If you want to maintain at 2" cut the lawn 2x to 3x power week. At 1" cut the lawn 4x to 6x per week. Mower should be fine. To lower the stress on the grass and mower increase your mow frequency

I’ve had this for 2 years after having a Honda for 15 years. The cut quality is pretty good (but not like Honda). Most people won’t notice the difference in cut quality unless you are mowing very high grass. My batteries last for 8,000 square feet of fescue before they run out. I use the high lift blade and bag. Best part is that it’s so quiet and no maintenance.

It's a really good choice. Just make sure you wash the deck after you cut. They've made cleaning super easy for a reason. You can't clean as well with a gas engine. I've had mine for a little over a year now. I was so glad that I spent the extra money. Everything that he says in the video is true. I have about 0.5 acres. Both batteries will give me two full cycles before I have to charge again. If I could go back in time, I would make sure that I washed the deck every time I mowed. This is so light that I pushed it to save on battery consumption. I made the mistake of assuming that the deck was Aluminum. Grass build up will eat through the paint on the steel decking if left on the bottom. I'm going to try and repair it if the off season. If Google would let me attach a picture to the comment I would show what grass build up does to the paint.

Have read a few reviews and they mentioned the motor housing is plastic. So if you hit an unsuspecting root or hard thing it can cause the motor assembly to fall out of the bottom of the machine. Milwaukee needs to address this Also on the one I purchased the handle was only attached on one side(for both of the handles) and not the other, was yours the same way?

Good video for the mower. I would like Ginja's opinion if this mower is good enough for me to switch over from a EGO mower (21 inch self-propelled) select cut model? I live in the Pacific Northwest (WA) on a 3/4 acre lot with a mostly Perennial Ryegrass lawn, during the growing season I find myself mowing every 2 to 3 days and if rain keeps me from mowing, I'll find myself mowing down very tall grass as they grow super fast. The EGO is ok, but it has a few weakness which I hope this mower can address: 1. Light and easily dulled/dented blade. I believe it is by design to keep weight down and battery life longer, but if you mow wet grass the blade will be dulled easily, and if you hit a small twig it tends to get dented. Appreciate if you can comment on the blade of this Milwaukee mower. 2. Deck cleaning. Due to the battery nature of the EGO, I cannot hose off the deck after mowing, especially when I am forced to cut wet grass and get a mess on the deck. Is the Milwaukee design good enough that its deck can handle being hosed off for cleaning? Thanks.
@pestandlawnginja6 ай бұрын
Time will tell. What i did like, to compare, the blade speed appears to be faster at start and also running. I have zero proof of this but just what it feels like. I also thought cut quality was better, but again time will tell. The amount of space it will mow is slightly more than the ego. I forgot to mention in the videos this mower is equiped with 4 led's for night mowing. I use these machines before i like to give official reviews. 1. as of now i can't comment on the blade longevity. currently using it and will have an answer later in the season. 2. this milwaukee is a steel deck and was easy to clean. I'm a big fan of steel decks over the plastic decks.

Ginja, love your content.; even if this brings the haters out of the cracks! You will probably have many gas die hards discount this video. Those folks are NOT the target customers for battery tools. (I am a gas die hard) That being said I think battery powered equipment is more attractive for those who don't like to do yard work and just want as little trouble as possible. I do think that over the long haul gas is probably less expensive due to expensive batteries but who knows? Paying $500 for replacement batteries every 5 years vs. 2 tune ups at $150 per pop plus gas and oil. I guess I probably spend less than $20 on mower gas per year using ethanol free stuff? My dad and sister have the Ego stuff and I much prefer my Stihl 2 strokes and Honda HRC. Yet my dad and my sister like the Ego stuff. They don't like the fumes and hassle of gas. It is good to have choices!

100% for me it..... i like it all and i like to see where things are going and where they've been. you make a good point on the longevity of batteries vs maintenance.
@Prototheria5 ай бұрын
Cost of the batteries is the price you pay for not having to fuck around with a gas engine. I love me some internal combustulation, and I love me some yard work, but I see outdoor power equipment as being just another set of appliances, so why not make them as easy to use as possible? I mean, you can still find working antique gas powered washing machines, but I'd bet money you have an electric washing machine in your house. ;)
@lazylearner9675 ай бұрын
@@Prototheria I see your point and agree to some extent. I am certainly not against battery stuff and progression. I need to try more brands than just Ego as that is only the battery stuff I have used. I don't like the way Ego feels compared to my gas stuff. Also the Ego blower chews through batteries like none other. I think its battery lasts 10ish minutes which isn't usually a big deal unless it's fall time and you are trying to clean up leaves. Also, my family members aren't too good about keeping their batteries charged so I run out of juice when I am mowing/trimming their property.

Thought the same as you mentioned about the cost of batteries and charger, said at $600 that is like getting the batteries and changer at discount and getting mower for free. So i picked it up to do my daughter's lawn. Mower is very good. I'd agree with the height of cut lever too. Many times it has dropped down and I have cut way to low. The bag I don't use that much so can't say one way or the other about that.

@pillcosby3949 Yes. Batteries have date codes and they can tell the number of charge cycles. My ego was bought from Amazon who is authorized seller. Not something I always think about when buying a new item that is widely avaible online. I also purchased home depot but receipts only go back 24 months and it's just over that. I registered my item at the time of purchase but milwaukee no longer has that system so any records of purchase they deleted. I've had numerous m12 batteries fail just past the 2 year warranty on them. One failed In a year which they did warranty. But with the number of failures I've had. I'm changing platforms.
