You know it's kinda funny how people don't understand how much knowledge is needed in the trades. My career started out as a laborer in construction. I then became a plumber, then maintenance director and finally an IT Director in charge of 3 physical servers and 18 virtual servers and all the things associated with running an enterprise network. Along with some 600 workstations, printers, and the rest of the ancillary equipment. I have had the opportunity to work with a vast array of individuals with different educational backgrounds. Hell, my sister has 2 master and a Ph.D. The knowledge is different, the amount is not that different. It's a different subject matter. Much like talking with a real estate agent would provide a different set of criteria for their trade. IT'S JUST DIFFERENT KNOWLEDGE. My friend your knowledge is astounding. I hate to say it might be under-appreciated by some fools, but it none the less, extraordinarily One of the issues I had was buying the fertilizers and doing it myself, it was actually more costly than hiring a service. The other problem was, hiring a service wasn't reliable. They would not show up at the intervals that promote good lawn care. I actually fired two companies because of this. You have given me hope that maybe I can do this.

Cheryl, look up on Google - Lawn Care Academy and there is some great info for various types of grasses and lawn care. It's a great starting point for beginners (which definitely includes me) and you can find exactly what you're looking for in concise information packages. I've read almost every page, and now I'm also the newest subscriber to this channel because this Ginja guy is one of the only long-winded guys on KZbin that fills the air time with more useful information versus useless chatter, which I appreciate. There's not much I hate more on KZbin than someone posting a 20 minute video with about 5 minutes worth of information. I've seen about half a dozen of the Ginja videos and I'm learning a lot, and he keeps the useless chatter to a minimum from what I've seen thus far.

That back yard has the most amazing view ever. So jealous of you mountain men lol. I'm sitting here in Wisconsin with the most boring topo map you've ever seen :D With regard to the lawn, this one should be fun to see the final outcome. I think it has a worse weed problem than me, which gives me some confidence that I'll be able to whip my lawn into shape since I have the budget planned for it this year. I battled most of the broadleaf weeds last year to great success, I just put down my pre em this morning, and we are getting an afternoon shower right now, couldn't have been more perfect timing on that! Looking forward to seeing this lawn makeover. Looking to start my own lawn makeover this year (seeding in the fall). @Pest and Lawn Ginja hey man, thanks a lot for uploading this one. It came right on time for me! Before actually asking you what I need to know I just wanted to thank you for your last season's advice. I did a water test and it turned out that all the bare and yellowish areas on my lawn perfectly matched some spots with poor irrigation! Now, back to the point, about two weeks ago my lawn started to come out of dormancy. So I decided to mow it as soon as I noticed some areas were getting tall enough, after which I gave it a boost with some spring fertilizer, plus I overseeded with Tall Fescue (the kind of grass is predominant on my lawn, the other one is KBG). So far so good, except for the fact that even though the lawn is getting greener and greener every day, I now have a whole bunch of weeds (95% clover and 2-3% dandelion)!!!!!!! My question is, should I go ahead and use our equivalent to Tenacity (2 4 D - it covers both clover and dandelion)? This considering that I overseeded 8 days ago and I have not even one sprout yet and the fact that I don't even know for how long I should not water the lawn after applying "tenacity" and this could potentially mess up my watering schedule to keep the seeds moist. I'm literally going nuts every morning seeing how the clover is thriving and suffocating my poor tall fescue! Thanks a lot!

Unfortunately you'll need to hand weed. No herbicide including tenacity for 90 days from the time you put the seed down. You don't want to stress the germination. I've seen fescue germinate in 10 days and bluegrass in 3 to 5 weeks. Just pick 10 weeds everyone you go it the door.

Prodiamine is best applied when the soil temps are well below 55. It's a preventive treatment that disrupts rooting as the seeds germinate. seed germination, depending on species of the weed, will occur between 50 and 65 degrees ground temps. Always best to apply pre maturely.

My question is when to use the tenacity? Do I put down the seed and spray the tenacity over it or spray the tenacity and then lay the seat down? Also is it OK to put Pete Moss over the tenacity and seed? Will the watering wear out the tenacity affects? Lastly will the tenacity hurt the new seedlings that are about two weeks old?

So I started a project on this called the ugly lawn project in my youtube playlist. It doesn't matter the order you put the seed down before or after the tenacity imo. I put it down after the seed just out of preference. as for the peat moss, put it down after you do all the solutions.

I’m in northern Indiana, I put tenacity down for the first time 10 days ago. My nutsedge, crabgrass and other assorted broadleaf weeds are turning nice and white. I can’t believe how little of that stuff will kill so much. I used laser dye in my mixture to make sure I had good coverage. My next step is the second application after my 3rd dethatch of the year, then a heavy aeration, followed by an overseed topped with some peat moss. My lawns going to look ridiculous next year!

Should I go with the same rate as my broadcast rate of 1.5perK or go with the lower 1.1perK rate since the spray would be more concentrated? Anything the 3way doesn’t touch I have tenacity (generic) to tackle via spot spray as well. A little hint to get the right spray coverage… I downloaded a Metronome app onto my phone… And after some trial and error, I set it to 82 and take a small step at every tic…. With my sprayer held at 2 feet above the ground with the wide spray tip, I get exactly 1 gallon per 1000 ft.² virtually every time. I use a DeWalt pump sprayer with the brown tip, which has a spray of about 40 inches wide. I filled it up with 2 gallons of solution and I literally run out at 2000 ft.² almost religiously.

@pestandlawnginja

Tenacity can be used in a few different ways. It works well for specific weed and grass types as a post emergent and it works great as a pre emergent. If you want to take advantage of the post emergent qualities you'll need to use tenacity with the non ionic surfactant. Wait 24 hours before watering then water it in with a minimum .15" of water. I recommend doing 1 treatment now and then do a second treatment 14 days later, the same day overseed your lawn.

I do have a few question for you Ginga! One gallon of mixed tenacity is supposed to cover 1000 square feet, correct? Also, is there a limit on how much blue color you can put in these mixes? I added the recommended amount of Mark It Blue to my mixture, and it was still really hard to see when I was spraying. I am at the five-day mark after my Tenacity treatment last week, and I am starting to see some bleaching on many of the weeds. Thanks awesome Ralph!!!! Shocked you used speed zone as well hahaha. Great minds think alike. It's fun seeing the weeds and grasses go white. Little scary too hahaha.

Here in Oklahoma, all the grass is Bermuda. It would be impossible to change it out to a different variety of grass. Are there any other grasses I can put with Bermuda to have a greener lawn in the winter time? I doubt there is. Bermuda goes dormant in the winter so in some yards there is a mixture of green grass and dormant brown Bermuda.

Yes. Kentucky bluegrass will work perfectly. I prefer using a species called barvette

How long after I apply Tenacity can I mow? Should I mow the lawn first before I apply the Tenacity? Thank You!

I prefer to wait 5 days or so before doing an after spray mow. prefer 3 days no mow before the application.

If you mix a gallon of the tenacity but don't use it all can you pour it into a storage bottle to use next time?

I haven't tested it out, the rumor is the active ingredient can take a hit sitting in water everyday its not used.

Thank you for your lessons! Question, After using Tenacity to kill the crabgrass do I need to go in and pull out all the "bunches" left behind?
@pestandlawnginja

depends on the situation. they don't disolve quickly like the commercials make it appear. so if you're not willing to be patient or if you want a fast fix you'll need to remove them.

Can tenacity be applied to damp soil during a full seeding renovation? Or should the soil be dry? Does it make a difference?
@pestandlawnginja
@pestandlawnginja 3 жыл бұрын
the soil dampness doesn't matter. if you want post emergent control ie killing crabgrass the leaf of the weeds would need to be dry. if you're going for pre emergent control you'll want to water in the solution sooner than later. hope that helps.

Just got my tenacity in today. My grass could use a mow today. Should I leave it long and spray the tenacity or mow and then spray?
@3pumpkins170
@3pumpkins170 5 жыл бұрын
If the grass is long I would mow now, then spray 2 days later. Common rule is you spray 2 days after you mow or 2 days before you mow. It's better to spray when the grass is shorter, that way you'll get a better coverage.

3pumpkins Thanks that makes sense. I Need to spray today so maybe I will just cut it very high and spray today and see what happens.

I agree with 3pumpkins. I commonly don't do any herbicide treatments 2 to 3 days before a mow.

Hey!!! After applying Tenacity how long until I can mow my lawn and not spread anymore crabgrass seeds that would cause more growth. I applied it last weekend and I already can see them turning yellow.

Could you mix Essential 1-0-1 in with the Tenacity? Is Essential part of your regular routine? Could Essential be used in place of your humate/compost mix?
@pestandlawnginja

Yes you can mix the two. I did that in the first episode and had no problems.

Nothing other than glyphosate that I'm aware of. I've heard rumors that tenacity, after several applications, can kill it. So here in am testing away
