You know it's kinda funny how people don't understand how much knowledge is needed in the trades. My career started out as a laborer in construction. I then became a plumber, then maintenance director and finally an IT Director in charge of 3 physical servers and 18 virtual servers and all the things associated with running an enterprise network. Along with some 600 workstations, printers, and the rest of the ancillary equipment. I have had the opportunity to work with a vast array of individuals with different educational backgrounds. Hell, my sister has 2 master and a Ph.D. The knowledge is different, the amount is not that different. It's a different subject matter. Much like talking with a real estate agent would provide a different set of criteria for their trade. IT'S JUST DIFFERENT KNOWLEDGE. My friend your knowledge is astounding. I hate to say it might be under-appreciated by some fools, but it none the less, extraordinarily One of the issues I had was buying the fertilizers and doing it myself, it was actually more costly than hiring a service. The other problem was, hiring a service wasn't reliable. They would not show up at the intervals that promote good lawn care. I actually fired two companies because of this. You have given me hope that maybe I can do this.

Cheryl, look up on Google - Lawn Care Academy and there is some great info for various types of grasses and lawn care. It's a great starting point for beginners (which definitely includes me) and you can find exactly what you're looking for in concise information packages. I've read almost every page, and now I'm also the newest subscriber to this channel because this Ginja guy is one of the only long-winded guys on KZbin that fills the air time with more useful information versus useless chatter, which I appreciate. There's not much I hate more on KZbin than someone posting a 20 minute video with about 5 minutes worth of information. I've seen about half a dozen of the Ginja videos and I'm learning a lot, and he keeps the useless chatter to a minimum from what I've seen thus far.

Looking forward to seeing this lawn makeover. Looking to start my own lawn makeover this year (seeding in the fall). I’ve been told by one company that if you have less than 50% grass they suggest killing off everything in yard with a non-selective herbicide like glyphosate and starting over from seed after tilling.

Yes. That's the easy route as long as you can water.

@Pest and Lawn Ginja hey man, thanks a lot for uploading this one. It came right on time for me! Before actually asking you what I need to know I just wanted to thank you for your last season's advice. I did a water test and it turned out that all the bare and yellowish areas on my lawn perfectly matched some spots with poor irrigation! Now, back to the point, about two weeks ago my lawn started to come out of dormancy. So I decided to mow it as soon as I noticed some areas were getting tall enough, after which I gave it a boost with some spring fertilizer, plus I overseeded with Tall Fescue (the kind of grass is predominant on my lawn, the other one is KBG). So far so good, except for the fact that even though the lawn is getting greener and greener every day, I now have a whole bunch of weeds (95% clover and 2-3% dandelion)!!!!!!! My question is, should I go ahead and use our equivalent to Tenacity (2 4 D - it covers both clover and dandelion)? This considering that I overseeded 8 days ago and I have not even one sprout yet and the fact that I don't even know for how long I should not water the lawn after applying "tenacity" and this could potentially mess up my watering schedule to keep the seeds moist. I'm literally going nuts every morning seeing how the clover is thriving and suffocating my poor tall fescue! Thanks a lot!

I forgot to mention I live in Europe, with temperatures currently ranging from low 50's to upper 60's.

Unfortunately you'll need to hand weed. No herbicide including tenacity for 90 days from the time you put the seed down. You don't want to stress the germination. I've seen fescue germinate in 10 days and bluegrass in 3 to 5 weeks. Just pick 10 weeds everyone you go it the door.
@pestandlawnginja5 жыл бұрын
If your super careful you could spot spray herbicide.
@eduardoconductor5 жыл бұрын
@@pestandlawnginja Really thanks for clearing that out for me. I've seen other people recommending the use of tenacity even on newly seeded grass but I've always been sceptical about using any kind of herbicide on such fragile stage for the grass.

My question is when to use the tenacity? Do I put down the seed and spray the tenacity over it or spray the tenacity and then lay the seat down? So I started a project on this called the ugly lawn project in my youtube playlist. It doesn't matter the order you put the seed down before or after the tenacity imo. I put it down after the seed just out of preference. as for the peat moss, put it down after you do all the solutions.

A little hint to get the right spray coverage… I downloaded a Metronome app onto my phone… And after some trial and error, I set it to 82 and take a small step at every tic…. With my sprayer held at 2 feet above the ground with the wide spray tip, I get exactly 1 gallon per 1000 ft.² virtually every time. I use a DeWalt pump sprayer with the brown tip, which has a spray of about 40 inches wide. I filled it up with 2 gallons of solution and I literally run out at 2000 ft.² almost religiously.

Hey there - I’m writing you from Calif & hope you can help me with a question about Tenacity! It’s getting cooler so I want to seed bare patches in my lawn (lots of them due to giant problem with weeds all year!) which brings me to my ? Do I use tenacity when I seed as a pre-emergent if I still have weeds in the lawn I could never get rid of this year? I’m growing a fine fescue blend with a lot of creeping red and have been told my weeds are mainly poa trivialis. Again, how should I apply Tenacity under the circumstances - would love your thoughts! Thank you SO much!
@pestandlawnginja5 жыл бұрын
Tenacity can be used in a few different ways. It works well for specific weed and grass types as a post emergent and it works great as a pre emergent. If you want to take advantage of the post emergent qualities you'll need to use tenacity with the non ionic surfactant. Wait 24 hours before watering then water it in with a minimum .15" of water. I recommend doing 1 treatment now and then do a second treatment 14 days later, the same day overseed your lawn.

I do have a few question for you Ginga! One gallon of mixed tenacity is supposed to cover 1000 square feet, correct? Also, is there a limit on how much blue color you can put in these mixes? I added the recommended amount of Mark It Blue to my mixture, and it was still really hard to see when I was spraying. I think if I was to make the mixture extremely dark, it would help me a lot better with my spraying. I am at the five-day mark after my Tenacity treatment last week, and I am starting to see some bleaching on many of the weeds. I have yet to see any real discoloration on much of the crabgrass and some of the clover. I will still be doing a second application of the tenacity at the two-week mark.

And I kind of have to retract some of what I said. I went out a couple hours later here and took a closer look at some of the crabgrass. Much of it is starting to lighten up a bit in the green color.
