i honestly yelled when i heard those sonic 3 boss samples in there. hits me RIGHT in the metaphorical nostalgia ballsack. also, i like that james chose to use davesprite as the main melody rather than beatdown. i feel like beatdown is more representative of the kind of person dave is being forced to be - always on edge, high-energy, never allowed to slow down or relax. the davesprite leitmotif fits dave as a character more. it's still got energy to it, but it's a more controlled energy, with a certain level of almost sadness to it to hammer in how goddamn fucked up and tired this kid is.

actually, I'm really happy to hear this canonized somewhat as Dave's theme. I heard the tune ages ago (like 2009/10) as a WIP beta track called Hawkeye, which I presume was created in response to the teaser of Dave's seppucrow sprite. Basically, this track was Dave's version of Nannasprite's "Harlequin." Hawkeye was later remixed into tracks like Sunsetter, and later still, Sunslammer. It's flat nice seeing it reassociated to the OG here, where it should be.

I have a theory about why this is a remix of Davesprite's theme and it might be because this Dave was supposed to be the doomed Dave (who later became Davesprite), but since the Reader threw the copy into the sewers, then he's just a normal Dave now
