Sorry about your injury! To make a larger hutch, buy the 1/2”x1” fence/wire by the roll of your desired width and cut to size. Assemble same as pre cut hutch kits! Add a door or accessory as needed! I didn’t have KZbin when I built my first hutches so sorry no build videos! If interested I can show an overview of a large hutch! LMK! Thanks!

Pet Lodge is great quality for the price! Nice galvanizing and no burrs or snags on the wire. Dumor/TSC cages are painted mild steel wire and will rust/rot in a couple years from the rabbit urine. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Happy New Year! We’re thinking about getting chickens and rabbits this spring. I have two questions for rabbits. Do you grow them solely for meat? And why are they kept in individual cages? Could I keep them in a walk in pen like the chickens with just one cage for breeding? I’m sure this is a dumb question and there’s an obvious reason I’ve not found. My husband grew up with cattle and chickens but knows nothing about rabbits.

Happy New Year! Our rabbits are for meat, fertilizer, for selling and Mrs. Off Grid has a couple favorites that are strictly pets. I don’t like the colony approach personally. If rabbits are on the ground they are more prone to parasites/worms and higher likelihood of a predator attack. Also in a colony setting there can be battles between dominant alpha doe rabbits and the betas. Bucks and does have to be separate unless together for breeding. All kinds of trouble can come from this. I prefer hanging wire cages, the commercial breed rabbits have no problem on the wire floor. No parasites from the ground. No predator issues. No fighting. No accidental breeding. Food/water is managed and measured to ensure proper health and hydration for each rabbit. Just to name a few benefits. This is a quick summary. Way more to it than I can type in a reply. I can do a detailed video in the next few days that explains more. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching and commenting!

@@THEOFFGRIDMOUNTAINHOMESTEAD Thank you very much for the in-depth reply! My husband said it was most likely for health/safety. Makes perfect sense. All information is appreciated. All I can seem to find is one sentence references in videos from breeders. We need to invest in hardy breeds. Perhaps we need to stay with chickens which we’ve raised before. Lots of work with them. Fertilizer is a huge plus though!!

Rabbits are fairly straightforward and not hard to keep. I don’t think they’re any more difficult than chickens. The hutches, feeders, water system is more costly per animal than chickens, but they go through less feed than chickens too. Plus it’s a very rewarding experience!

This was a hutch only, not a kit! No urine guards or droppings tray rails are included with a hutch only! The box shows available accessories they aren’t included!
