Oh how I wished I would have found your channel Before I got my Oink. I would have been so much better prepared, BUT... luckily, I am old enough and at a point in my life where I CAN change my life for my pig, and that’s what I did. I even moved to a state that allows pigs as pets just to be safer. I can’t stress enough how important it is to spay and neuter your pigs A.S.A.P! Those hormones make them turn into crazy demonic lunatics,and if you don’t understand the hormones,it’s easy to see why many pigs are re homed. When we got Oink spayed we found out she had a very abnormal uterus and most likely would have developed cancer within a few months, and let me tell you what a difference spaying makes..... both Oink and her baby Piglet, went from crazy town to chill ville all because they were fixed. Anyways..... I love your enthusiasm for advocating for pigs. I told all of the people who took Oinks piglets to watch your videos and to follow you on social media to educate themselves on pigs. Sadly we have gotten the news that all of the boy piglets we had didn’t make it through the summer, except Piglet. And I think he made it because both him and his mom, Oink are mainly inside,so they aren’t exposed to the elements. Anyways.... enough of my rambling..... I was so happy to see the notification of a new video(eww I sound like a creeper). Keep it up my sista from another mista! One day there won’t be any pig shelters and all the pigs on earth will be happy and free! #pigsarefriendsnotfood

You are incredible! Love meeting other people who love their pigs this much. It's always the first question I ask when people talk about behavior issues with their pig, "are they fixed". It isn't a cure all, still require training, of course, but it is incredible what a difference it makes!

Breaks my heart to think how many people have had the opportunity to love and own a pig...but couldn't find adequate information in order to raise one properly, so they end up being unable to keep them. They aren't the easiest pet in the world, but if you know what you're doing they can be the most amazing :)

Hello wanted to say as a brand new piglet parent your videos are very helpful. We adopted a beautiful baby mini two days ago and after finding out from the vet that the reason she wasn’t eat and having trough drinking water was due to the fact she was taken from her mama to early we were extremely worried she might not make it thank god today she finally started to eat

Hi Jennifer. It is very frustrating when breeders are not honest and don't care about the piglet's well-being or the affects that selling a piglet that is too young has on the new owner. I hope everything turned out well.

We have a 1year old pig. His hoofs have never been trimmed. We took him to the vet at 4 months and they said he didn’t need it and they only need it if they start curling. Not really sure what they meant by that. We were also told he only needed dewormer one time and not after that unless worms in his poo. Is this true? Do we need to get his hooves trimmed? Could his muscles and walking abilities already be compromised? He seems to be a very happy pig but just want to be sure we are being attentive to his needs and keeping up with all of his care. His skin seems to always be sort of flaky and we put swine conditioner on him 1-2 times a week. Should we use coconut cream or does it need to be a spray?

Hey, do you have any suggestions about keeping Penny Away from acorns? I have 3 huge oak trees with massive amounts of acorns. I know that pig farmers use acorns to fatten up their pigs. However, I was doing really well keeping her weight under control feeding natural like you do. Penny is completely obsessed with the acorns and it’s starting to show. I can’t wait for acorn season to be over! I hate to just keep her on her leash because I know she needs to root . Thanks, Mary
@AdriRachelle
@AdriRachelle 5 жыл бұрын
Ahh, the acorn battle! The worst part is, they're mildly toxic in large quantities (loose stool, reddish urine). Definitely fattens them up in a hurry too! I'm constantly clearing the pig parts of the yard...and they still come inside looking fuller than when they left! I adjust their grains accordingly and do my best to get rid of them!
@marywebb7490
@marywebb7490 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I thought you might suggest that. I’ve already cut back a tad on her food specifically her grains. She has had times where she’s had reddish urine that freaked me out until I researched it. Luckily that hasn’t happened in a few weeks. I’m going to try to get my lawn guy to come over ASAP to rake up all the leaves and ask him to get up as many acorns as possible. I’ve also had started limiting her time outside until the yard has been raked. Right there are divots all through the leaves in the yard from her searching. Thanks!

Hi! Anything you could suggest? Also what about super dry skin?! I how much coconut oil is good for them?
@AdriRachelle
@AdriRachelle 5 жыл бұрын
Her smart little brain at work! If she's still relatively new to you, she'll take some time exploring and not much will convince her otherwise. Sounds like you're on the right track with the toy options! Dry skin I use the coconut oil topically, and add a tiny bit of wheat germ oil to their food a couple times a week. I just purchased a pig skin conditioner that I'll update everyone on in a few weeks if it seems to work! They're so prone to it, and this time of year, with heaters running, it's even worse! Try no to bathe too often.

Like MD said, if you have a knowledgeable vet, it's not any riskier for an adult pig than for an adult dog. They do need a specific kind of anesthesia and for it to be monitored correctly, so seek out someone who's experience and comfortable with it!

I think if you don't mind the large dog in the space, a pig wouldn't be any different, and perhaps easier in some ways as it wouldn't require as much exercise or stops to potty. If you had a very secure enclosure for it to get outside when you were parked it would probably be a totally happy pig...just definitely need to start the leash training right away!

It's hard to give accurate advice on this, since pigs vary so much in size. What I like about mine is that I can order more panels for it as needed! However, it wouldn't be suitable for large adults as it's not strong enough to contain them.

Thanks for sharing all the information about mini pigs. I was wondering if you know why my mini pig Ramona which is a 4 months 38lbs female is constantly rubbing the side of her nose on the rim of her feed bowl for very long periods of time.
@AdriRachelle

They are definitely itchy animals, and some of mine love to root stuff around and get snout scratches! She may just be doing the natural rooting behavior, or she might be trying to tell you she wants food :P (they always do, so don't listen to her if she's already getting enough!).

What are your thoughts about getting a pig that was born and raised in a barn for an indoor pig? We are looking at a julianna that is 8 weeks old. We would like to raise it as a pet indoors.

Totally doable!! All of my indoor pigs started outside in a barn and 8 weeks is the perfect age to start working with them. I have several videos that might help you in regards to raising, training and feeding you baby pig. Have fun!!

I do give mine vitamins, especially those that don't go outside much. Your vet can come up with a specific vitamin plan but I like to use flintstone chewables, vitamin E, and coconut oil. I'm looking into biotin as well.

I work a 8 hour job Monday-Friday. I made her a 10x10 ft pen outside with a warm house, kiddy pool with sand, and inside she has a 70x 38 INCH, house in my extra room with a entrance into a little tent with small plastic ball, plus lots of toys and a heating blanket So during the day she is next to my goats, and at night she’s inside due to very cold weather. Am I doing it right? due to my work situation will this keep her happy? Or in your personal opinion would she be happier in another home? I know you probably don’t wanna say, but please do. I’m looking to hear other people’s opinions. Thank you! Please respond!!!

That sounds like a good setup! Every pig is a little different in terms of their preferences so you may need to make minor adjustments to be sure she's happy, but the fundamental idea is very similar to what I see a lot of pig owners come up with!

I want to have a pig but I have skl and my parents have work almost everyday and cuz of their type of job they physically can't take a pig either them. Would it be OK to leave a mini piggy at home from 7:40am-2:50/3:00pm? As that's the sort of time I get home from skl (I'm the 1st home) In my opinion I don't think it's ok but I'm not sure so can I get some opinions from people of what you think 🤔 EDIT: I dont have a mini pig yet

@adri Rachelle we have a mini pig who is BTW 70lbs plus or maybe even more now. We was told by the seller that she would stay in the 40s which is a fat lie. But she is doing something I never seen her did before. She is gathering socks, and shirts, lease, and belts and making like a nest under my wife wedding dress which is her main sleeping spot. And it is not her usual sleep time. Have any idea?

what can you tell me about dental care!? ruby is 8 months old, and she grinds her teeth like crazy! ever since we got her at the age of 2 months, on and off sometimes more than others. ive read that they lose their teeth also but normally around a year. im nervous to look in her mouth because the one time i did she bit me. so the only time i am able to see in her mouth is when she yawns. do you brush their teeth!? are there treats to give to clean them? (they are very discolored, not sure if thats normal....)
@AdriRachelle
@AdriRachelle 5 жыл бұрын
That grinding sound is like nails on a chalkboard! But, it's totally normal and generally stops as they age. It CAN mean they're either frustrated, or content (such mixed signals) or they're just bored, teething, and grinding away! The normal age is around a year, but again, the grinding doesn't necessarily mean she's teething now. You absolutely can brush their teeth! It's always best to start slow, and do it regularly until they're familiar with it.

Hello! We have had our mini pig for about a month now. The first two weeks she was absolutely amazing using the potty pad and not having any accidents. She is in a pin with tile underneath of it. Cozy bed and lots of toys and a treat ball she loves rolling around. She has been ripping up her potty pad and going potty on the tile instead of the potty pad. We have no idea why she’s doing this. She was doing so well. Do you have any advice?? Thank you!!

I use a potty pad holder to lock the pad in place, which tends to stop this behavior. However, you can also try switching to the fake turf pads - which I've come to like even more. Better for the environment, pretty easy to clean, no potential for tearing up, and seems to work for even the most stubborn of pigs!

I just adopted a 7 month old miniature pig, should I just give her water or should I give her a mix of baby rice cereal and goat milk?? And should I just use a bowl or buy a water feeder? Ty
@AdriRachelle
@AdriRachelle 2 жыл бұрын
She should be old enough for just water! Typically by around 3/4 months they've transitioned off the milk entirely. I can normally give them pig pellets and fresh foods at 7 months but if she's being picky about it you can mix some oatmeal, banana mash or pureed fruits/veggies in with the pellets for a bit!

I got a mini pig with the intention of him being an inside pig. He was potty trained inside very fast but he always seemed angry. I decided to build him a large pen outside with a covered insulated house . He gets free roam of my yard all day. He is a completely different pig now. He follows me outside wherever I go. He rubs up against me and squeaks . He’s pretty much like a dog. He even only goes to the bathroom in the same one corner . He does eat my rabbits poop though . Hard to keep him out of there.

Hi we have 2 baby potbelly one is 14 weeks old this one is my daughter's the other is mine and she is about 8 weeks old . My question is why would they fight . they will be out together for a few minutes and then the next thing we know they are fighting . How can we stop this what should we do ? We would like them to get alone are do we have to always keep them separated. Thank you Millie

It isn't uncommon for newly introduced pigs to argue over who is the boss. Typically I keep them in the same space but separated by a gate...they can "talk" and interact without being able to attack each other. A slow introduction that is supervised is best. The arguments at first are nearly unavoidable, and the key is just to make sure they don't escalate to where someone gets hurt (very rare in my experience, mostly it's all talk). Pigs are vocal creatures so yelling and growling and grunting is all pretty standard.

My mini pig ran away at about 7pm.. it’s now 12 he hasn’t came home he’s in the woods alone we looked till 10. We live in the country to so coyotes, snakes, and foxes are bad.. any tips how to get him out? I took his kennel favorite toy, blankets,food, and water. He slipped out of his harness while going potty and ran into the woods he got spooked by the dog from down the road..
