Hi, thanks for the video! i've been thinking about getting a minipig as a pet on and off for a number of years by now; recently my interest peaked again when i've been looking at them in the local zoo. And thus i started to look into the topic again... i'll absolutely check out more videos of yours. my take away from this video would be to just shove the pig away if it nibbles at me, same thing if it were to block my path?
@autumnacresminipetpigs
@autumnacresminipetpigs 2 ай бұрын
@@Eistier I appreciate that you are doing thorough research before deciding. I wish more people would do that. When you raise a piglet, you can prevent this behavior by setting yourself up as a leader right from the start. A simple snout grab for biting is very effective. When my pig is in my path, I just keep walking towards them until they move. An aggressive pig is a challenge but knowing this from the beginning gives you the tools to avoid it altogether. I have tons of resources that explain this topic and others in detail so there is no question on how to handle it. Check out my courses, group, webinars and guides!! stan.store/autumnacresminipetpigs

Sorry, but it sounds like you’re not at all equipped to properly raise that animal. Things are only going to become more and more difficult as she gets older...if the dogs don’t end her first. Forget about training her to be a therapy animal - that’s not realistic; by your own admission you’re no expert and wouldn’t know the first thing about it. You need to do the right thing and rehome her with someone who has the resources and the know-how to truly give her a good life.

Your videos are amazing! Would this work with a large pig as well? A friend asked us to help rescue a pig from slaughter (She bonded with it at the farm she worked at). It isn't what I would call aggressive but it does do things that I can see could lead to issues later... Like nudging me to play, being a bit pushy, etc. This is a MASSIVE pig so I will admit I am nervous about escalation! Thank you so much for these videos!

Oh my god, DO NOT adopt that animal. You have NO idea what you’ll be getting yourself into. It’s not even a “mini pig”, but rather a genuine meat pig. THAT ANIMAL IS *NOT* A PET. It belongs on a farm, being raised by the farmers who actually know what they’re doing.

🤗🐷🌟GREAT VIDEO, Autumn, this video on the pecking order is very well explained by YOU. I have livestock ( horses), dogs and all, so I am very familiar with your statements and explanations🐽My girl pal, ‘PigPal’ was 8 years old last year when she died of what was suspected to be an infection caused by the disease, PYOMETRA. I NEVER bred her, never planned to so I thought that she would be fine NOT having her spayed, I should have had her spayed and I learned reason why I should have. I got a cute male pig 6 weeks ago, he is now 4 months old. In a few days he will be in for castration. I have been watching him carefully as he tests my dogs, seeing if he can push them. The dogs correct him properly, and he listens to them and backs off but still wishes to follow and that is okay. Everyone is inside and outside. Piglet boy is learning, under my watchful eyes. Your videos with information are helping me emotionally when things seem challenging, raising a youngster again.🌻🐷🌻

This explains soo much. So we have 2 female pigs. Daisy and pepepr. Daisy bit my husband on the ankle not super hard but firm? And he kinda ran away, and then i went in there to change their water and she tried to bite me, but i gently said no, and i moved her snout away and i kept speaking to hr in a calm voice. And she tested my pants, theyre loose fitting pants, and then she tried to kinda nudge bite me again and i keto telling her no and moving her snout. And eventually she left me alone. So today, went in to the pen no problems, they wrre happy to see me, but daisy had he rtial up and stared down my husband lol. I think she was challening him again

I am really looking forward to going through the rest of your videos. We have a five year old mini-pig named Elliott. We got him for our daughter for Christmas the year she was 16 because she had just lost a friend to suicide and she had dreamed of a mini pig for years and we thought he would help get through her grief. We thought we did our research. We are very experienced with training dogs. And I once trained donkeys to a saddle to ride, so we thought we were well prepared. We read about the truth of how big they could get and how not to get scammed when buying a baby. We prepared for the sleepless nights and for proper nutrition and socializing him with our dogs. My husband raised 2 farm pigs for 4-H but of course they were outside. We were a homeschooling family at the time so we were home all the time pretty much so he wouldn’t be left alone much. What I think we did wrong was that we protected him from the dogs too much. He played with our little Silky Terrier and they got along great but we kept him put up a lot due to worries about the dogs hurting him. I believe that was a mistake because we were not able to teach him the rules of the house while he was little. We did not find good training resources and he just didn’t get enough socialization or exposure to things outside, like car rides and things like that. He went on one trip as a baby and one car ride to be neutered. Now he is large and my daughter spends all of her time at home with him but typically he is in his pen under her loft bed with his toys and blankets or outside in the fenced in back yard with just the duck & chickens for company. She is so afraid that he is going to eat something he shouldn’t that she is bad about putting him up too soon. He just spends too much time in his pen/bed. She is 21 now and in college and looking for her first job as a CNA. I know that he is going to be more and more my responsibility as she is home less and less. But four years ago I got really sick and was in bed for 8 months and then just down a lot in recovery. It’s been a long recovery with a lot of anxiety and depression thrown in with all of the sickness and life changes. So when I am around Elliott the pig, he likes to charge me or swipe his head at me and snap. He is always in easy reach to actually bite or hit me but does not. But as I said, I have anxiety and he has just not been something I could face in the last few years. But I feel so bad for him. He is not living is best life and neither am I. He has his sweet side. He is so intelligent and has so much potential that I can not sit here and let him live his life being on the outskirts of our family herd/pack. He gets a long well with the dogs actually. Our bulldog ignores him and the favor is returned, my little Maltese stays out of his way and his old friend Sadie the Silky Terrier is scared of him and hurts his piggy feelings by not wanting to play with him anymore. Haha, he is just no longer her size. So I am trying to fix our relationship. I want to socialize him and let him know that he is NOT Boss Hogg around here! I want to explore his intelligence and challenge his mind with AAC buttons as I am doing with our dogs. But I can not do any of that until I am not afraid to feed him. Elliott and I need help.

I can only imagine the Work that lady put in to make Sadie gurl pig so Calm to the point where she slept in the bed with her young kids & also when I came to adopt it, Sadie was not aggressive towards me at all. I mean this lady really put in the work & so knowing this I probably won't own another pig in my life time, in other words I was really lucky to come across such a Calm Loving potbelly pig.
