hey skinnypigs1 I stumbled across your channel 7 weeks ago when I got my 2 piggies. we were looking for 2 guinea pigs going back 8 weeks ago we looked on done deal which I know was a bad idea as adopting would've been a better choice :) we came across this man who had a "guinea pig farm" and his reviews were pretty solid saying no one had a problem with piggies they got off of him so we decided to have a look at the piggies. he brought is out the back where he had several male and female piggies together and when he opened the shed I was horrified, there was over 100 baby piggies inside with filthy living conditions :( we went back out the front where he had the piggies "ready" to be homed and myself and my sister picked out 2 female piggies I know we shouldn't have bought them but my heart was hurting so bad to see the living conditions of these piggies. we got them home and a week later we brought them to the vet. the piggies were apparently 7 weeks old but the vet said by the looks of them they were only 5 weeks they were tiny. lulu was only 142 grams and April was 145 grams he was feeding them rolled oats !!! when April was 10 weeks old she developed a big patch of dry skin on her side it was so bad and bleeding it spread to her ears and nose we took her to the vet and was prescribed antibiotics and now she is a happy healthy piggie who loves to play with her sister lulu :) I just wanted to say if anybody is planning on getting guinea pigs please do research before adopting them :) also I'm getting my first fleece and c&c cage at the end of September you really inspired me to be a better guinea pig mom thanks for all the helpful videos!!!!

Kayliegh, I know you realize it's best to adopt from better people in the future. I couldn't help but mention that maybe even if anonymously, you, your parent, someone should probably call the Authorities, Animal Welfare, and recommend he that Breeder be investigated. I know it is a sensitive subject. And, I don't intend to cause anyone to feel judged, or bad feelings by bringing it up. Just thought I would make that suggestion, and move on. My original intention was to say to Skinnypigs1, I admire you SO much for SO many reasons! You are SO brave to do these videos, and put yourself in the position to be judged for all kinds of stuff, by many that have no clue what they are talking about. And, you are so brave, to ALWAYS speak your mind. To put yourself through all that is involved by having so much public exposure doing videos, is so admirable! You do so much because you care about the wellbeing of ALL guinea pigs so much. You are such a kind, self-LESS, good of heart and spirit human. You go to many extra efforts, spend a great deal of extra time, and make sacrifices, endure whatever you must, for the good, for the wellbeing, of ALL the guinea pigs. You do SO much for them. And in doing so, you help those of us, who were fortunate enough to find your videos! You help us become better Pig Parents, a tall order. But, no matter how you say any words, (which considering ALL you do? Is amazing and wonderful!) You allow(ed) us into your lives, many details you realized would help us to know, when you didn't have to. You share what happens and how you feel about those things, with honesty and integrity, rare, and refreshing qualities, for which we are blessed. Through being open, scarifying some of your privacy, we viewers can better understand that Pet Parenting isn't just fun, but it IS an ongoing, enormous responsibility, requiring Pet Parents to budget accordingly for the unexpected and/or eventual health needs of our Pet Babies. And, that..., sometimes those decisions aren't easy, but very difficult selfless ones, needing to always do whatever is best for them, not ourselves. They really ARE our Babies, part of our family's. And, if they need pain med, or anything else, we make sure they get it! You remind us to make NO apologies to anyone about our decisions to do our very best by them. Somehow, WHILE you manage to take the BEST care EVER of your immediate family, each and every one. You ALSO make these invaluable videos that show us the BEST ways to do ALL of that! Not only do you do take care of your family devotedly, consistently, better than anyone I have ever seen. But, somehow, you manage to have the energy, generosity, patience, enough to make all of these enormously helpful, very appreciated videos! And I, like many others I am certain, value your thoughts, feelings, opinions, and advice, more than you can ever know! Please never stop telling us whatever you feel the need to say. And, I so appreciate that when you have so many other things you must or would like to do. Instead, you are here, patiently, tirelessly, often tolerating so much unnecessary stuff, (like rambling, crazy ladies), 😉 for the good of ALL, especially the Guinea Pigs that benefit SO VERY MUCH everywhere thanks to everything that you have done, and do. I hope you realize that you HAVE changed countless lives for the better!?! And that you should feel enormously proud of who you are! Because, YOU ARE AMAZING! And, THANK YOU again Skinnypigs1! Our Piggies thank you too! We are looking forward to watching you upcoming videos, as ALWAYS!

I am out of town for my dads funeral and am so sad because while gone we received news that our elderly dog had to be put down so we put him to sleep this morning and it is just so sad to know we weren't there with him to comfort him
@dehighpriestezz15217 жыл бұрын
Andrea Hartman I am so so very sorry that you, your sweet dog, your whole family, went through such a difficult, sad event while separated from each other. I can only imagine how hard that was on your family. I am sure that the staff at your Vet did their very best to make your sweet dog as comfortable as they possibly could. I am sure they were considering how they would feel if they were to be in that situation. And, I know they wanted to show your fur baby as much love as they would if he were theirs. All the folks who work with, for, animals are such good, caring people. And, I am sure their hearts were aching for your whole family being in that sad, unfortunate situation. And, I know it is very hard not to feel guilty. But, sometimes there is nothing we did wrong, and nothing we could have done to change that they leave us. If I were ever given magic wishes, I think selfishly, having our pets live as many years as we humans do, stay with us our entire lives would be one of my wishes. That is one of the cruel realities that would be nice if we had the power to change. But, if he was suffering, I am certain if he could tell you, he would say he was grateful that you did the selfless, right thing to do, by not allowing him to continue to suffer any longer. Unfortunately knowing you did the right thing. does not make the pain of losing them go away though. I will pray for strength, comfort, and peace of mind, body, and spirit for you and your whole family. May you find comfort in knowing he is no longer suffering. And, may all of the wonderful memories of him, of the special times you had together, that you do get to keep always bring you much comfort. I am certain he will watch over you w/his unconditional love, always... 😢🙏🕊

Depends on the pig really, but lifespan is roughly 5-7 years, so some pigs are seniors once they are 4 years old, while others aren't going to seem like seniors for another year or so.

Love your set up!! I love your channel. Have watched your videos for months before purchasing my baby. I'm a new skinny pig owner and when I purchased her she had a small cut around her ear. Since getting her almost a week ago that area has become flaky and I do see her scratching sometimes. I've been doing a lot of research and I believe it might be mites but am just wondering if this could just be some skin irritation? I purchased loads of products from GorgeousGuineas so excited to use those but just wondering if you have any advice?! I was thinking of just ringing the vet to see if she should be seen.

Have you considered doing multi level cages? I'm debating doing one but I was wondering what you thought about them. I'm trying to find a way to keep their cage cleaner. I would put their hay on a small second level and their play/lounging area on the bottom. Just looking for a way to keep hay from getting everywhere in their cage.
@skinnypigs17 жыл бұрын
Had mutli level when I first had pigs and I personally hated it. Was hard to clean under the upper level and pigs fought over who was allowed up or down the ramp.

How often do you change their blankets? I use pine bedding and gets so dirty in less than a week. Do they pee in one place?

@skinnypigs17 жыл бұрын
They don't need them. They have a healthy diet of high quality pellets, fresh veggies and unlimited hay.
@MrKathydt7 жыл бұрын
1. With the excellent diet you're giving them, would the addition of a mineral block be harmful? I also feed my 2 month old "Bella" the highest quality feed, but was told she needed a mineral block too; which she does chew on. (I do have it on the upper ledge of her cage so she needs to ascend up a ramp to get to it.) She is my 1st Piggie & was 9 weeks old when I got her. 2. I have the materials to make a cage like your babies are enjoying, but am wondering if any of them have ever climbed/jumped out?

Two questions: What made you switch from KM's pellets to Oxbow? I just watched the video where you said KM was the best. Also, why did you start using hay racks versus the hay bags?Thank you!
@Terry2347 жыл бұрын
horsebabe534 I remember she said once that she switched over to Oxbow because they changed their formula to have less calcium, so now they are better than the KMS pellets. The KMS are still great though.
@skinnypigs17 жыл бұрын
KMS stopped shipping to Canada and Oxbow had changed to better calcium, so switched. I didn't like how all the dusty bits of hay were collecting in the hay bags, had to change them out each month and was a lot of hay bags to switch all the time.
@horsebabe5347 жыл бұрын
Makes sense, thank you!
@horsebabe5347 жыл бұрын
When you were using the hay bags, where did you buy them? I'm having trouble finding a good one like you used.
@virshonebrinkleysproles54117 жыл бұрын
Why did you go back to racks and piles instead of bags?
@skinnypigs17 жыл бұрын
With all the bags I was using, changing them out each month was getting annoying. They fill up with the dusty bits at the bottom and eventually need to be dumped out, so find the hay racks easier and is easier for them to eat from.
@virshonebrinkleysproles54117 жыл бұрын
skinnypigs1 Makes perfect sense! I had stopped using my bags and gave piles just because it was easier for me cuz I just had foot surgery...but I think I will keep doing piles or make a rack from a couple extra grids when I get some. I have one little girl who absolutely loves to run under and eat buried under the hay! I had forgotten how cute that is!!!

Would a 2 by 4 be good for 2 pigs? I am a bit new and your channel has been super helpful! Thanks

Is 5 ft by 1.5 ft big enough for 2 piggies? I have owned guinneas before but their cages, i realise, were far too small.
@skinnypigs17 жыл бұрын
28 by 56 inches is the minimum and really bigger is definitely better.

Hey so my guinea pigs are chasing each other around and nipping at each other, talking alot, teeth chattering, and earlier they were like... up on their front legs. Is that normal dominance stuff? They're 4 week old sisters (side note they keep shaking their head and their ears sound like a fan)
@skinnypigs17 жыл бұрын
Yes it can be, but possibly is a warning sign too. What size of cage are they in? If it isn't large enough, they could be feeling cramped. 28 by 56 inches is bare minimum they should be in.
@jordanstephens24697 жыл бұрын
skinnypigs1 they have a really big cage (5x3) and plenty of places to hide. I know this is how they work things out it's just hard to actually see it :\

Can you please tell me where I can get materials for a C&C cage, I got 2 guinea pigs on Sunday but I’ve watched so many vids on proper care and everything. My poor piggies are in a store bought cage and after watching videos on them and how bad they are I feel horrible that they’ve been in there for a week )):
