I was given my Pet Scan fifteen minutes after my 18 FDG injection. Before arriving, I was told the entire test would take 1 1/2 hour to 2 hours, yet I was in and out in 60 minutes? Something does not seem right?

If 18-FDG is competing with glucose than why cells will uptake both 18-FDG and glucose in almost same quantity??

What does no FDG avidity on a pet/ct scan mean?

No FDG avidity in a PET/CT scan technically means that the radiotracer FDG did not accumulate in a particular area. This can result from factors like low metabolic activity, scar tissue, necrosis, or a positive response to cancer treatment. The significance depends on the clinical context and may indicate benign or treated tissue.

Thank you so much also for your clear response. The thing is my father was the one that was diagnosed with metastatic leiomyosarcoma cancer in some of his organs and is given less than 6 months to live. However, we don't totally trust doctors because they are pushing chemo but he doesn't want it. His pet/ct scan says "no or minimal FDG avidity" and in some organs it say "Mildly avid metastatic" so somethings are not adding up. We are questioning why they are giving him a short time frame to live if the cancer is low to mild? Anyhow, Although we do listen to the doctors, we are also trying to figure out things on our own. Thanks so much once again.

What is difference between PET-CT vs CT; PET MRI VS MRI?

PET scan is done to look for metabolism which is physiology. CT/MRI scan is done to look for anatomy. CT/MRI scan is done for a patient and simultaneously PET scan is also done for the same patient at same time. Both PET and MRI are different scans... After acquiring images these two (PET& MRI) images are fused to form PET-MR MRI is preferred over CT due to its hight spacial resolution. But PETMRI is very high cost and maintenance charges are less... So they do for PETCT.
