This is a great documentary. The Boys were just at the beginning of their stunning career. And they are still making great music 30 years later. I just love them. And the picture of Neil unshaven is one to die for 🥰
@davidgeerling98713 жыл бұрын
It's not their beginning, cuz Neil's hair style in this interview came out in Behavior..Their beginning is 1983 and think U know this but had a brain fart...No Biggie...Just sayin' :):) Didn't take the time to watch the whole video, but yeah, I've never seen him unshaven...But I'd like to watch the whole video and look for it :):)
@0504Revati3 жыл бұрын
@@davidgeerling9871 Yes, the documentary is from 1992. Let's say this was the beginning of their "touring career" - they had their first gig in 1989, then came the Performance show in 1991, after that the 1994 shows and so on. It was great to get a glimpse behind their ideas and how they formed their style.

@@0504Revati Interesting, as I didn't know about all of that...Maybe I'll watch this whole thing and look for unshaven Neil :):) !!

Listening back, they made some fantastic tunes. Chris is a genius and the PSB really stood out as being unique among their contemporaries of the time.

Maybe it's because of my age, but I see Pet Shop Boys and Erasure as the only two "synth duos" that started around the same time, manage to release new music and tour to an incredibly dedicated fanbase. I think Neil is a better lyricist than Andy but I think Chris writes better music. Then again, I love Vince Clarke's pop sensibilities. They are two very different artists, but I adore them both and will follow them until my last breath.
@jasonbarron304727 күн бұрын
im same my friend and agree totally i loved erasure more in the 80s and 90s and followed everything they did and bought everything andy bell was god to me, the psb were second tho i adored them too but i thought erasure were more me and the pets were a bit more classy dare i say snobby hahaha now i love the psb much more than erasure they seem to have lost interest in it all and put out any old rubbish just to keep the die hard fans happy, the psb have gotten much better over time and put out some banging music i understand them better and their clever witty deeply intelligent lyrics better and i truly admire neil and chris and vince and andy and like you i will have them both at my funeral, much love brother xxx j

PSB 's strategy for anti-success through focused personal and artistic authenticity has led to 40 years of longevity and sustained relevance.

this is probably the last era they really still were relevant in my world, from my childhood to my teens. Good times.

They were lucky to have great producers, today I miss that and you can see that the quality of the productions has dropped, although there are still good songs. But there is not much concern with production and final quality.

Love their cover versions in the sense that where the pet shop boys and we, you can be who you want to be in life that is late modernity. xx

Interesting Neil refers to 'the Rave culture' & the vibe they were after + Chris, which does gladden the soul. Fave Track's def' 'Heart' with a great Vid' to accompany. Cheers for this👍.. Plenty in the vaults to enjoy/reminisce.

Like that "knowing and ironic" and life is often not what we expect in late modernity. Goldthorpes post war working class left for a 70s world at war, but then came in new wave the Pet Shops lyrically attentive over the years...

I used to have a Chris Lowe obsession (mainly due to the Rent video) - so I ensnared a French guy called Thibaud that looked like a blond version of Chris. He's since moved back to Perpignan and married a woman 🙄 I was just a dalliance 😅

I disagree with Neil's opinion on rock v pop, it just sounds like self indulgent bullshit, to be honest 😂. I like both genres but always preferred the synth laden stuff
