I love the story behind this song, every female singer at the time wanted to do it. They wrote it for Dusty and said no to everyone else. She was living as a recluse in a U.S motel. They tracked her down and talked her into it. It was her last no 1!

Did you know The Bee Gees admired the Pet Shop Boys and asked them to produce an album for them? Neil and Chris turned them down because they felt too in awe and intimidated by the brothers 😊

Neil and Chris are melody geniuses. You'll find this kind of super songs throughout their carreer, on every album and many b sides.

The Pet Shop Boys are a music legend, I love their whole discography, and they still keep making music to this day. They have recently re-released an EP, Relentless, from the early 90s, they also released a compilation album called Smash with all their hits. If you've enjoyed this track, then you might be interested in Domino Dancing, Always on My Mind or Heart, awesome songs and great videos 🤗

Glad you like them, Eddy. Most of their lyrics are kind of sad, cynical and often about break-ups but the music always remains upbeat and danceable... The music type is synth-pop and I am sure Stromae (and well as thousands of other musicians) have used Pet Shop Boys as an influence. They really are legendary... and have been around for 42 years.

I’m still surprised I am just hearing about them 🤯

@@eddycheeeemusicyou've got a lot of fantastic stuff to discover from them. And it's not over, a new album is coming in 2024. They are still touring at the moment with their dreamworld tour (greatest hits tour) and they've just reissue the relentless album (a rare 6 track album that was coupled with the album very in 1993).

This is one of my favourites songs. I watched this video thousand times as a teen when I bought the VHS video tape back in the 90s... PSB are music geniuses.

Loving your Pet Shop Boys reactions. If you want more of the dance, upbeat PSB, try New York City Boy, a great tune. Also, listen to Left To My Own Devices, Se a Vide E (That's the Way Love Is) - definitely a carnival vibe - The Pop Kids and It's Alright.

The Pet Shop Boys and the incomparably great, legendary, Dusty Springfield. RIP Dusty. You should give a listen to the Dusty Springfield songs written and produced by the PSB....In Private, Nothing Has Been Proved, Daydreaming, and Occupy Your Mind. Also other Dusty songs, Son of a Preacher Man, Some of Your Lovin, Just a Little Lovin, Breakfast in Bed, Tupelo Honey, Easy Evil, The Look of Love, and Spooky, to name a few. I noticed you did reviews of The Seekers, Georgy Girl and I'll Never Find Another You..... they were written by Dusty's brother Tom Springfield....he also wrote one of her big 1960s songs, Losing You... it's fabulous! (Not the later Losing You she did in the 80s by Elvis Costello. )

Be sure to check out their other hits including "Opportunities (let's make lots of money)". I think you should also check out the Human League, their first hit "Don't You Want Me" and their last hit "Human".

If you love this (who doesn't?), you'll probably love When Smokey Sings, by ABC. It has a similar sound to this song.
