One of the most stand out David Moments was 2015, the Mets were playing in September in Washington, the game they took 1st place from the Nationals. David had been banged up a little (looked the same to me) and this was his return game. If I remeber right, He walks to get on base. Someone gets a hit and he gets to second base. An out happens but he gets to third base. The next hit is a sacrifce fly and David tags and scores home. David slides in to home and lets out this ‘YAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!’. I’ve watched him hit many homeruns and Marveled at his two take over of the WBC tournament where he was dubbed ‘Captain America’. Seen him play great defense with Jose Reyes, but for some reason this ‘YAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!’ by David gave me goose bumps because what I didn’t know then but I know now, this was the enthusiasm the Mets needed to have fun throughout their memorable 2015 run to the World Series!!! We always say this or that was the ‘moment I knew’. Well, that was the moment I knew the 2015 Mets were special. Thanks, David!!

This is always how Pete was gonna work out from beginning he’s gonna crush this coming year. Best for Mets really to get him on shorter terms. Pete should take the dough slug some homers win it all and retire early and enjoy his life
@StanddividedfalltogetherКүн бұрын
Yep. Take the 3-90 and if no doubt he can get 100 over the next 4 no problem and there’s his 7-200. But he knows Vlads coming and he might not wanna be a DH in 2026 nor have to opt out and do this again. That’s the problem. Vlady became a free agent. Mets trying to have both for 3 years at best or just Pete for one. If he takes 3-90 I bet he’s here for all 3.

So, now that it comes out, that Boras is using the Prince Fielder 9 years $210m as a comparison, I have this to share: Fielder got injured halfway. Pete Alonso is on track for more strikeouts, fewer hits/walks compared to Prince Fielder, but more HRs and stolen bases. Runs/RBIs are similar. I'd offer 3 yrs/$90M with vested options for yrs 4-7 based on performance. #Mets #EverybodyHappy?

If they’re retiring David Wright’s number does that mean they are not doing it for hojo? Not only was hojo his mentor, but he was his first coach in the minor leagues and then his instructor again in the major leagues and taught David just about everything except how to play shortstop like he could. Hojo played short and 3rd, had 3 30/30 seasons and 2 championships so why isn’t hojo up there already? I’m assuming since they’ve already moved on to David Wright that they mustn’t be going to retire it for Howard Johnson but that’s not right. The only part of the game that wright was better than Johnson at was time on the disabled list.😂. Jk Don’t get me wrong. I love David Wright, but I think at very least Howard Johnson was just as good, so why did he get the snub?

There is very little to differentiate Pete Alonso from a designated hitter. If you could equal his defensive run prevention at first base, then we are (for all intents and purposes) looking at a right handed DH who only has the ability to fill in at one spot in case of emergency. So it boils down to his everyday production vs his potential replacement (+veratility) His everyday production in the four hole is a mirage. He stacks ridicluous numbers in lopsided games. 2 Home run 6 Rbi type affairs. are very common for Pete. This combined with his Iron Man status (600+ AB) Leads to a very decieving end of year stat line as far as cummulative totals. This is why batting average is important, but one layer beneath that is his 176 K's out of 600 AB's These are unproductive outs. The difference between moving the runners over and just plain whiffing can't be overstated. Pete Alonso is essentially a DH. Not a very versitile one at that.

It’s 4 or 5 tops. But he’s coming back. Let them do their thing and let’s hope for an ace and some quality pen arms. And god forbid Santandar for DH.

Well I guess great minds think alike. If 3 yrs is on the table then so be it. But an opt out after 1 is nuts. I think part of Pete’s sliding numbers is because I think the contract was weighing on his mind. So we sign him with an opt out after a year!!??.. I don’t think so!.. we’re right back where we started. And he’s older!..I think tops I would do is 5 yrs. Opt out after 3

Only if there’s something else they want to do instead of waiting for Pete. I think signing him will be best and the Mets will probably wait it out and just end up signing No one if he doesn’t stay.

I agree with you, but I don't think the Mets want to give up more prospects for someone who can't field and probably would wind up hitting 235 with 30 home runs. I'd be more interested in trading for Nolan Arenado, and moving Vientos to 1st.
