These are nice to see. And quite rare, given the BBC's penchant for wiping recordings to re-use the tapes.

What a weird place this world has become...This vid has been up for 14 years and only attracted 77 comments! I was born in 1959 in west London and my mum used to play poker with Peter Cook once a month😂. I know I sound like a sad old boomer, but I had a fantastic childhood. Taped on one of those nights when the BBC decided to save money on their electricity bill by having no lighting on in the studio. It’s a good job the sound quality is far better than the image quality.

The concept of two working class 'blokes' putting the world to rights in the pub was a brilliant idea that was later copied by the 2 Ronnies. This wonderfully 'innocent' humour is sadly a thing of the past. All we have now is 3rd rate comedians having to use swear words to get cheap laughs.
@LennyJohnson54 жыл бұрын
Living Proof Latterly copied by Mel Smith and Griff Rhys-Jones too; probably the closest anyone has come to the level of Pete and Dud’s ‘stupidity’ and writing quality.
@thehotyounggrandpas82074 жыл бұрын
These two are also responsible for Derek & Clive: so many swear words and such obscenity it would make GG Allin blush.

It is so funny because it lampoons many of the conventional ideas of its time. Nowadays comedians do not rebel against, mock, or think critically about anything. They just parrot whatever rhetoric the government and media push out.

Some of these great sketches are ruined by the "canned laughter", which was popular then. When virtually anything said is followed by a fake laugh, the flow of humor is stunted. Same is true today.
