My grandfather had a ‘51 Martin D18. I’ll always remember him playing it at family gatherings. When he passed it was handed down to my uncle and he and the family continued to enjoy it. Sadly my uncle recently passed away, but that D18 is still being played, now by my cousin and his kids. A great instrument, and even greater men.

Warmest congratulations Maestro Pete! You deserve the very best and the D18 is the guitar all the other guitars aspire to be. I got mine earlier this year and it astounds and delights me every day - and it sure as hell smells good. Like you, I now have a three Martin family - a D jnr. ( one of the original ones) - an OMC 28 (tender beauty in a rosewood box) and now the D18. I noticed Martin put their titanium strings on the D45s from the factory and I thought, if they're good enough for the 45 then they're good enough for all my Martins - expensive but worth it - my little jnr. sounds like a standard series axe. Enjoy your new friend - you are man of rare talent, spirit and generosity and I thank you from distant South Australia.

“A bad workman blames the tool” is not as simple a statement as it seems. Always felt what that a good workman understands the value of using and looking after good tools. The reason a bad workman blames the tools are they are probably using the wrong ones, or they’ve abused the good ones they have. Don’t care how skilled someone is, using a wood drill bit in metal isn’t going to give you good results. You get the idea.
