Great interview!! I just recently began reading A Drinking Life and I was surprised to see how hooked I became. Not only is the writing great but for me the story is very relevant. My father grew up in Bklyn with an alcoholic father in relative poverty, loved to read comics, had to work to make it on his own, gave money to his mother, came from a pretty large family. My dad's father was also Irish and I remember very little about him, but what I do remember is fairly dim and sour although not all bad (similar to Pete's dad). This book and Pete's authentic writing really helped me to imaginatively fill in some gaps in my own family history.

"The Drinking Life" is possibly the only time Pete told the truth about anything.
