I can't believe the things that Pete & Willmott-Brown were saying, the way women were viewed back then! Kathy was a woman ahead of her time, trying to make men see that she won't let them control her. Everything she said was spot on, she's her own person & doesn't need to be told what to do or how to act or how to dress by a man!

One of the downsides of traditional family values. The women were seen as nothing more than the bearer of children and to raise a household. Some women do like that though, so i won't include that with every woman. I believe in free choice.

What was wrong about what Pete said?.

@@ebakindeji5941 Er, the fact that he exudes not just a chauvinist mentality that he, as a man, has a paternalistic duty to protect Cathy, as a woman, but this medieval attitude where he considers Cathy to be particularly precious property of him and his family, and himself to be a more of a victim of Wilmott-Brown's actions than Cathy herself, since, as far as Pete's concerned, Wilmott-Brown damaged his family's property, and humiliated him by exposing his failures in his manly duties to protect that property. He even explicitly tells Cathy that this isn't first and foremost about her and her suffering. (Er, yes, it is - she's the one living with the trauma of having been raped, who had her bodily autonomy violated in one of the most egregious ways possible, remembering that she isn't yours or anyone else's property, but a human being who should be afforded sovereignty over her own body. Nothing you're experiencing compares to what she's going through).

@@davidparry5310 So if a man's wife is not his property then we should also say the same about a womans husband not being her property either and if she thinks that then she's a misandrist right. And how was he supposed to protect her when at the time of the rape, he was out of town visiting someone?. Oh is he s'posed to be around his wife every single minute of the day?. Then you'd be complaining about him not giving her freedom space right?.🙄

@@ebakindeji5941 'So if a man's wife is not his property then we should also say the same about a womans husband not being her property either and if she thinks that then she's a misandrist right.' There's never been a prevalent societal view that men are women's property, certainly not in Western society, nor in the vast majority of societies of the last few millenia. 'And how was he supposed to protect her when at the time of the rape, he was out of town visiting someone?' With respect, you're completely missing my point. My point is that what upsets Pete is not what his wife's going through, but his failure to fulfill his manly duties (as he sees them) to protect his wife.

History has been re-written slightly with the recent episodes. Willmott-Brown did say sorry and appeared to mean it, but in the recent episodes it’s implied he never did. Kathy seems to be in control here, claiming not to care if he stayed or left. When he did return 25 years later, it’s a very different Kathy, and he was no longer remorseful.

Then years later, they come up with that silly, unrealistic, storyline of Wilmott-Brown taking over the Square with the help of Max.

Amy Jones After. The rape was 1988. This episode aired in 1992. Sadly for Kathy, she's a rape survivor, not once but twice!

guleet he raped Kathy in 1988. His duration on EE was 86-89. He made a brief comeback in 92, that's when I remember him.

Amy Jones He apologised for raping her so unless he’s an absolute sicko and giving her forewarning, it’s safe to say he’s already raped her.
