'Money can buy you a fine dog but only love will make its tail wag'; thats a good one. I like the one you said in what I believe was your last interveiw; 'Money can buy you everything but happiness and take you anyplace you want to go but Heaven.' In life, you were a marvelous Christian. That you lived twice as long as you should have and are nearly unarguably the finest showman to have ever walked on a basketball court is an example of the Devine at work to me. There are others that may have rings and may have more more money than you but your life is a celebration of the Lord God of Isreal. Your life is an excellent example to us all.

Before any player can be compared to Pete Maravich, that player must have first mastered every fundamental skill of the game to the 98th percentile. Pete is the only player in the history of basketball to have absolutely perfect ball handling skills. The ball was an extension of his hand and he didn’t have to give any conscious thought to the ball - this allowed him to look 3 moves ahead. This made him an offense scoring machine that was IMPOSSIBLE to guard by any player that has ever lived.

This man lived quite the life. His father raised him to do a particular thing, and he perfected it almost to the best of his potential and did right by his father. He fought his way to earning the all time scoring record for college basketball, secured his legacy and financial status at an early age, built his worldly kingdom here. Then his mother dies of suicide and his father a little later. He retires in 1980 and goes on this crazy spiritual journey practicing yoga, Buddhism, a lot of things before settling on Christ. Within just a few years, he would proclaim he wants to be remembered not for his basketball career, but as a Christian. But by the end of the ‘80s, he dies of a heart problem literally ON. THE. COURT. His story is such a classic rise, fall, redemption story. It would lend itself to such an epic movie or novel.

Over the past several months I've watched a countless amount of Christian testimonies online. I've always loved basketball and have been watching basketball videos often as well. I first looked at videos of Michael Jordan and his career from college to the NBA. I watched his 23 minute hall of fame speech and I viewed videos of his teammates talking about how competitive he was and what he would say to other players on the court. After watching old videos of Shaq, Larry Bird and Kobe, something lead me to "Pistol" Pete. I believe God was showing me the testimony of a man that had a similar stance on Christianity before he was saved like myself. I thank God for being able to see others come to Christ whether it be from the past or the present. I just pray that those that doubt will be saved in the future by the truth in Christ.
