The issue here, and Pete still doesn't get it, is that if MLB or the HOF allow him back in then it condones the "mistake" he made of gambling or wagering on baseball. You would end up having a shit load of players and managers gambling on the games during the season and they would be forgiven because of their "mistake". Rule 21 says it's a lifetime ban, so I'm not sure what part of lifetime ban that you don't understand. Pete never apologized, and MLB never said they would reinstate him. Go watch Giamatti's press conference. He made it very clear that there was no deal once the investigation showed what it did. Pete is still the bad guy and he did this to himself. MLB didn't call him on the clubhouse phone night after night asking him who he's betting on.

Pete is definitely deserving to be in the Hall of Fame. He didn't bet while he was a player, and the betting (as a Manager) that he did was for his Team to WIN. So he wasn't throwing games away to make money. Again, this was done as a Manager. The other thing ppl forget is that the year after Rose was banned, Marge Schott hired another #14 who wore #41 as the new Reds skipper in Lou Piniella. He goes wire to wire & won the WS. So that begs the question: what the hell was Pete Rose doing with that Reds roster that Lou Piniella took over & won with? In order for a player to get 4,000 hits, he would have to get 200 hits every season for 20 seasons. And players don’t normally reach 200 in a season. Every year you might get one or two that reach 200. In 2019 (before the pandemic) only two players reached 200. In 2018, no player reached 200. Jeter is the Yankees all time hits leader and after 20 seasons, he only had 8 seasons where he reached 200 hits... So, again. For a player to get 200 every season for 20 seasons... is just a freak of nature and he’s not even on the ballot to be voted on. Yet players who were caught and suspended using PEDs which enhanced their performance and gave them an advantage, they are on the ballot and their records still stand.

I was born after Pete Rose was banned so I never grew-up with him, but I love my father who loved Pete Rose and The Big Red Machine. Unfortunately, Pete Rose is his own worst enemy. I think being in the HOF is important to him and his family, even though we all know if Pete ain't, no one is a HOFer. If he would've come clean in 1992, he would've been embraced 10 years ago. If ur betting every night on your team to win it's a gambling problem. Gambling in sports where u can control the outcome is so wrong & goes against everything about the game. I also dont know if I believe he only bet on his team to win. When high stakes money is involved it's hard to believe if his team went up a better team he bet on them. Ir how bout this if he started getting into debt & knowing u can get ur legs broke if u dont pay up bc I believe the maffia could be involved maybe he did make calls to have his team lose.
