The issue here, and Pete still doesn't get it, is that if MLB or the HOF allow him back in then it condones the "mistake" he made of gambling or wagering on baseball. You would end up having a shit load of players and managers gambling on the games during the season and they would be forgiven because of their "mistake". Baseball is making an example of Pete Rose and it has to be that way. There's no question he was a great player with great numbers but sorry Pete, you broke the cardinal rule. Rule 21 says it's a lifetime ban, so I'm not sure what part of lifetime ban that you don't understand. Pete never apologized, and MLB never said they would reinstate him. Go watch Giamatti's press conference. He made it very clear that there was no deal once the investigation showed what it did. Pete is still the bad guy and he did this to himself. Pete has always stressed he was not addicted to gambling. As a ballplayer , the man left all the potential he was given through excessive work ethic on the field. He gave it all to the game, everything. There are murders who get parole. I think MLB has made it's point. You gamble you get at least 30 years before you are up for review. I would like to see Pete forgiven and in the Hall Of Fame while he's here to enjoy it. What he gave the game far outweighs what he took from it.

Pete is definitely deserving to be in the Hall of Fame. He didn't bet while he was a player, and the betting (as a Manager) that he did was for his Team to WIN. So he wasn't throwing games away to make money. Again, this was done as a Manager. The guy was idolized by young players everywhere, unfortunately, some players in the league thought he was a fanatic. That's why people loved his playing. The problem with Pete is, he was in a position of power while he was a player. If he began betting on Reds baseball when he began managing, that means he was doing it the night of his 4,192nd hit. The other thing ppl forget is that the year after Rose was banned, Marge Schott hired another #14 who wore #41 as the new Reds skipper in Lou Piniella. He goes wire to wire & won the WS. So that begs the question: what the hell was Pete Rose doing with that Reds roster that Lou Piniella took over & won with? He had debts to pay, and his debtors dictated what he must do to repay those debts b/c he didn't have the $. Pete Rose would never have won that WS in 1990, I guarantee you that

In order for a player to get 4,000 hits, he would have to get 200 hits every season for 20 seasons. And players don’t normally reach 200 in a season. Every year you might get one or two that reach 200. In 2019 (before the pandemic) only two players reached 200. In 2018, no player reached 200. Jeter is the Yankees all time hits leader and after 20 seasons, he only had 8 seasons where he reached 200 hits... So, again. For a player to get 200 every season for 20 seasons... is just a freak of nature and he’s not even on the ballot to be voted on. Yet players who were caught and suspended using PEDs which enhanced their performance and gave them an advantage, they are on the ballot and their records still stand.

I was born after Pete Rose was banned so I never grew-up with him, but I love my father who loved Pete Rose and The Big Red Machine. Unfortunately, Pete Rose is his own worst enemy. I think being in the HOF is important to him and his family, even though we all know if Pete ain't, no one is a HOFer. If he would've come clean in 1992, he would've been embraced 10 years ago. I don't know if this will ever be confirmed, but I'd bet anything, he's still lying. He bet on baseball as a player, and he did not bet on his team to win 162 times a year. I don't think anybody would be, but I wouldn't be shocked if he came out and confirmed one of these before he passes.

Also remember a lifetime ban would mean that in the very least that means he wouldn't get in during his own lifetime. Since everyone seems to misinterpret what a lifetime ban is, maybe baseball was thinking that as long as someone new is born, then maybe it's that newborn's lifetime, which would then make it forever.

if baseball is corrupt whats the point to watch it if it's fake then, thier are rules to baseball football etc you break the rules you get punished , dont let McGuire, rose , sosa , Clemens, bonds, except for rose they all cheated with steroids , rose was a h o f player but bet on baseball the hit king , my favorite to watch my hero bet on baseball to save game from corruption he shouldn't be in . he earned to be in hall of fame but lost his right when he bet , no different than 1919 black sox , they kicked out joe jackson and he just knew what other players were doing

If ur betting every night on your team to win it's a gambling problem. Gambling in sports where u can control the outcome is so wrong & goes against everything about the game. I also dont know if I believe he only bet on his team to win. When high stakes money is involved it's hard to believe if his team went up a better team he bet on them. Ir how bout this if he started getting into debt & knowing u can get ur legs broke if u dont pay up bc I believe the maffia could be involved maybe he did make calls to have his team lose. Did he not see what happened to the black sox & shoeless joe Jackson. I get their should be forgiveness but mlb baseball wants to send a message loud & clear that betting in baseball as a player or manager is wrong. It corrupts the game. Just like when boxers would take a dive for money its wrong. Pete I thought was very harsh here bc it is a profile the interviewer is doing & to leave out his gambling would be strange. Or a cop out interview. As a player of course he deserves to be there but he knew the enormous consequences. If they just cave & let him get away with it others might do the same. Michael jordan was a degenerate gambler , he did not bet bc it's just a betrayal to the fans in ur city & a disservice to the players. I think when he is dead they will let him in but they dont want him to enjoy it now. I was a huge Knicks fan in the 90s fans get so into their teams they cry when they lose. Sports is the only thing I have seen that can bring a stadium of thousands of people together no matter their ethnicity , social class rich poor gay straight man woman the fans are die hard for their teams. To think if I heard someone on the Knicks if they ever played bad on purpose & lost the game bc they gambled would be so upsetting.
