sampras was able to raise his game during the 00-02's US Open back to his prime level even though he only won one / three events. These were the only events where he played some fantastic tennis during his last years on the tour. Iam still struggling with his 2001 5 set loss vs Federer cause that may have well been a key match for him deciding on quitting one year later...

Amen to that. Because of that serve, his volleys were overlooked, but arguably, he had the best 1 - 2 combination in the history of the sport on his serve.

Even nadal wont touch those volleys . Impossible to chase down and hit a passing shot. No body volleys like that now, federrer is the only one who can volley in today's tennis . Federrer is nowhere near sampras when it comes to net volleying

Pete is my choice for best volley of all time. He can hit the volley for power. His drop volley's are the best. And his short hop picks are the best.

@Varun not a decent rivarly due to Djokovic always getting the better of him. The other rivarlies were always head to head

He got a class and power . Best base line play and best serve and volley. Even in clay court he played serve and volley , in French open. He reached SF once , QF thrice but still he played his original game. The same applicable to Edberg, Becker,Connors , Rafterand Mckenroe who all reasonably played well but never won. French open is not for serve and volley player. Also when they played so many French open champions were playing. Muster hits the as hard as Nadal,Curier, Agassi too. Hence French open is not for serve and volly players.
