Have a knee problem from 5 years driving an AEC Reliance coach with a crash 5 speed ZF box and a clutch so heavy it lifted one's bum off the seat, no power steering so 10 hrs a day around London was not a picnic. It was later rebodied for the second time, no mechanical updates but unladen weight up by 500 Kg. Capacity upped from 38 to 53 seats hence the extra weight. Its one saving grace was utterly reliable summer or winter, always instantly started unlike some of the new Leopards. Without power steering it steered in a straight line without constant correction, front tyres lasted twice as long, pleasing the boss.

Great double declutching, clutch to neutral, then clutch to gear, and the pause between depends on whether you are driving a Gardner, Leyland, AEC, or whatever, I have been there. don't get me on "floating the gears", as the Americans call it, (not using the clutch at all), I have never really mastered it, but very fierce arguments on both sides. I only got as far as, push on the gear lever, release accelerator, gear goes into neutral all by itself by the torque being released. pause. then clutch to gear, Then there is the snatch change, on an "H" pattern gearbox. start off on a hill in first, speed up, pull down on the gear lever, hold the accelerator, then whack down the clutch and release it, the gear lever should shoot back into second and give you a seamless change, done it loads of times successfully, and a few times when it did not go quite right but that's life. ex Army blokes will probably laugh at me and say they never entertained using he clutch.

What a fun video! I joined the HCVC (as it was then) in the late 1970s as my friend had a single decker AEC bus and I was going to be his co-driver. However, my career meant I left the UK and became just an observer. Great that people like you who know a thing or two about buses are on board. Every success with the continuing work on the famous RML mobile office!

My Uncle drove one of these from Aberdeen to London regularly Two days there unload and load up and two days back. I wonder how they got Sprat & Winkle That's the name of a type of coupling used on model railways. Good to see the steam car behaved a lot better this year.

Hello Pete and his -bus- operations centre.😎 .. I am finally caught up, after binge watching since Tuesday! . What a journey! Lord Barrington is a mechanical hero. .. Interesting that your _modus operandi_ has changed.. .. I still think, keeping to the original brief of a bus bar or the capability to convert to one is still valid (You never know). It may be an option for a bus bar lease for one off promotions? ... Your original plan of a modular bus isn't that far off from an operations centre. .. Maybe create a (mobile) internet cafe/bus. With coffee/barista facilities..? .. Everyone loves a coffee whilst working...🤔 .. Fantastic Richard managed to, for a 2nd time, complete the london to Brighton run! What an achievement.. Look forward to the next episode.😎 ..

VN0 857 Bristol KSW from the first 2 films was around on the preservation scene for a while. Pretty sure the other 3 in the films are gone. 1 of them was destroyed in the making of the 3rd film. I believe a couple of the Lodekkas from the TV show have survived though both exported.

Did the whistle blow on the steam car all the way to Brighton after you said it stopped?
@PeteAndHisBus16 күн бұрын
The “whistle” is the car building steam. So when you slow down and it’s got plenty of pressure it stops. As soon as you open the taps it does it. They all do it, they all sound slightly differently and… the sound is actually unexplained… 👍👍
