So the owners would rather it stays in a field and rot than selling it to you? But are happy for you to fix it for free? And store it for them for free? I can see you genuinely care about the history behind the bus which is why you are doing what you are doing but the owners seem to be taking you for a ride which is sad 😔 if they cared at all for the bus they would sell it to you at a heavy discount for the work you have already put into it

Hello from Calgary Alberta Canada. I agree with the comment. Why are you doing this all for free. What do you get out of it. The owner gets a refurbished bus. Is this what you do for a living.

That's not acceptable... - she must be saved and preserved for posterity... - absolutely...!! You have an incredibly good mechanic and I was jumping for joy when you got the engine running again...!! My father was a driver in the Royal Engineers during WW2 from 1939 onwards. In the early 60s I remember going with him to the Chiswick bus dept for him to take his Public Vehicle test which he passed. He was then based at Mortlake garage and later used to drive RMs on the 96 bus route to Dartford and I remember seeing him parked up outside the Museum in Market street. England today seems like another world now, far removed from the country he and his comrades thought they had saved. 😢

Hi Steve. Like you at the K&ESR, where I work, I drove past this for years, wondering if salvation would arrive. The owners have even been on the Wealden Pullman train. I wondered where she had gone. Years ago as an Ensign supplier, I was offered first choice of the hundred so RMs, sitting at Purfeet. Reupholstered, recent full paint and a great AEC., … for not a lot. "But where could I keep it?" I said. I already had three Dennis fire engines. OH only if I had known. Hindsight's everything.

This made me so happy and actually brought a sentimental tear to my eye. Until the age of 6 I lived in a British Leyland 600. Long before the New Age movement (I'm 45 now). The day my parents sold it and the new owners drove it away, I was inconsolable. Apparently it was to make it's way to Portugal, but I have no idea if it did or where it is now. My parents would take it to the odd fair and festival but it was mainly static whilst they built/converted our new home. When ever I step into one of these classic split cab buses, it feels like a home coming to me. ❤️

Fantastic, another RM saved. I love these busses and have been the major mechanic on two RMAs airport busses used by BEA in the 60s. So glad to see you save her. As for towing the bus down slopes add a vehicle to the other end and use its brakes to slow the roll when needed. Bit like a tug of war you cant break her in half.

So good to see this bus getting rescued. myself and my twin brother both used to drive RMs in the 80s. At the time i would not have believed how nostalgic the feelings would become, just being glad to climb down at the end of a shift. I would love to get behind the wheel again one day. good luck with the project .

Great job and these vandals make me sick , all the hard work you had done too. I have been a bus driver for 32 years and our buses get their windows smashed quite often and besides the criminal damage they are causing it puts passengers at risk too . Well done and keep up the good work. Thank you for sharing.

Oh geez, Pete. Now you've done it. I think you're going to have to unplug Compo's battery and hide him under a good hefty tarp for a week and hope he forgets. In his mind this Herculean effort was all directed by him, and all thanks to him was accomplished. Maybe if you drain his fluids all memory will be lost and when you wake him up, he'll see a "new" bus and just think you're as mad as he already thinks you are. One can hope. Truly an amazing effort and the beginning of a restoration that will definitely be worth watching. I had a bit of personal experience of that kind, many years ago. I bought a 28' (single-deck) school bus from an auction and had it towed. The garage it was towed to had a resident equivalent of Lord Barrington who loved working on International engines. Brilliant work, and inexpensive because I had tripped over a door lintel and gave the auctioneer a strange handshake. Everything went strangely well thereafter. Bizarre, but true.

i just really can not understand why people wont either give away or sell for cheap to people who is willing to restore and care for the vehicle instead of just leaving it out there to rot away. they claim they will do it, they will restore it, but days turn into weeks, weeks into months, then 1-2 decades later, the vehicle remains in the same spot, untouched since the day it was left there years prior, everyone knows the day they get around to work on it wont ever come, yet they refuse to hand it over to someone who everyone knows will actually work on it and care for it. nice to see the bus is finally being taken care of after all the years it has been left to rot. and vandals really piss me off as well, society is way to lenient on them.
