When Theory Becomes Reality: From Abandoned Cow Pasture To Thriving Permaculture Farm & Education Model 50
(Part 1 of 2) It’s time for another incredible Permaculture Farm Tour from our favorite destination away from home. We know you are bound to be inspired to take what you learn from this trip so that you can apply it to your own projects & plans. We were able to glean so much invaluable footage that we needed to split this one into 2 parts, so be sure to stick around for part 2! We have so much more to share with you!
Are you ready for the incredible content that we captured earlier this year when traveling to the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica? Meet Ana & Ian, the super impressive co-founders/teachers at Finca Tierra just outside of the coastal/jungle town of Puerto Viejo. This super-duo have spent the past 10 years developing an abandoned cow pasture into a super productive tropical homestead. In fact, this farm is so abundant, that any of their needs can be met right on site.
If you are searching for a well-done Permaculture Design Course that shows a live/active demonstration of all that is encompassed within a PDC, Finca Tierra is currently hosting 5 immersions per year. To learn more about their programs & events, check them out at:
fincatierra.com
Even if you are not able to travel to visit Finca Tierra, we suggest following them through their Instagram: / fincatierra

I can't believe you. If you like to garden and grow things then just garden and grow things! Quit tryin to act like you have ANY talent for politics! OR geological science or astrophysics! I see that vid title and all I can think of is that Actress Sandy .. who was installed into congress under a fake name .. complaining about the world ending in 10 to 12 yrs. NOT once scientist has any scientific proof that cow farts are killing the earth. Then she jumps a plane when she could've taken the bus or the subway for less $$ and less time and flys because she just likes flying. Next thing I know .. there are people actually buying her BS.

This is what it means to be living from and with the land. Experimentation with keen observation to what works and then using those successes in future plantings. Ah, this is so beautiful, so abundant, and so satisfying. You have been more than repaid by Nature for your investment of time and energy!

Urban planners could learn a lot about solving the food deserts from this concept. Imagining urban areas with educational farms like this within the city footprint. Redesign the subdivision after subdivision, strip malls and walking trails...sidewalks. Bring food/farmers into the community.outside the typical farmers market. Front yard gardens too.

At Finca Tierra we are actually working on the new zonification regulation with our Ministry of housing. We are trying to implement some new requirements on sustainability for new ways of construction. And we are including the bioregional characteristics of our region to take into account when urban planning. 💚🌎🏡🍃

Far and away my favorite gardening channel by far, and definitely my most watched channel since I discovered it a couple months ago. Tons of priceless information on food forest gardening with heavy mulch, and it happens to be the same garden zone 9B as me here in San Diego. Exactly what I need and have been working on for the last few years. Thanks and keep them coming. I think I watched 10 of your videos yesterday, and the sad part is I am rapidly catching up..

This is how we're meant to live. Intensive, mass production farming is destroying the soil. Can't grow anything on dead soil. I live in New Zealand and a lot of the surrounding rivers and lakes you cant swim in because of runoff from farms. My dream is to own a piece of land to grow food and sell locally. Your videos made me realise this. Thanks a lot Pete 👍🏼

I saw some ylang-ylang flowers. They are usually put on garlands here along with Jasminum sambac. They're quite fragrant (overpowering, at times) like the dama de noche (Cestrum nocturnum). If you have them in your yard, you don't have to use artificial fragrances because the breeze will carry their odour in the inside of your home. Kang-kong, they're usually used in a pot of sinigang (sour soup dish with either pork or fish), but it can also be the main star of the dish as in adobo kang kong or kang kong with garlic and oyster sauce and some shrimp paste. Anyway, as always, thanks for this great video and amazing tour!

Whenever i watch these videos, what I'm more interested in knowing at the end what it costs to start up and their expenditure/maintenance costs. It's all good to up and pack off to start a farm, but would be more interesting in knowing how its maintained if they dont work for any other income. Do they sell their foods? Do they still live off from saved income from before? How much does it cost in seeds, fertilizer, minerals etc. Obviously its not going to be the same for someone who does this as a hobby (most people who do this as a hobby spend more money in than they get out of it - but that doesnt really matter if people enjoy it).

Great. Thanks for this very fascinating tour. A lot of insights and hints. I have a tiny sustainable garden in Germany and plant fruit and veggies for my family and me. The plants and the seasons are quite different, but the whole process and challenges are kinda similar. And I have a soil that looks just like the one in the video: clay all over the place. I learned a lot about it and now I really enjoy working with it. Greetings from Germany. I plan a visit to Costa Rica in a few months. I really look forward to that trip!
