It's also worth noting, if you connect a USB drive to the (SERVICE) port, and then connect the monitor to your PC using the USB B cable, the USB Drive gets connected to your PC. This allows you to just leave that USB connected to the PC, and when you need to flash the monitor, upload the newest firmware, and the monitor will read it. You mentioned a few times in your videos it's a pain to pull the cover and connect the USB drive. This way, you can just leave it plugged in.

This monitor is amazing for productivity. I thought the curve was going to be gimmicky, but it makes such a difference. The only issues I've had are related to the KVM switch. I have two computers connected and I will switch between split screen, computer 1 or computer 2. Sometimes when I try switching it drops both inputs and I have shut everything down and restart to get them to connect again. With Zoom, you can create a custom sized window. That way you aren't locked to one app. Share Screen > Advanced Tab > Portion of Screen. Then drag the green box to what ever size you want. It will share anything in that window. It remembers the share size as well.

Sure, OLED would be nice for gaming, but I don't mind the matte screen at all and you just can't beat this resolution for productivity and everyday use. Great overview! The perfect ultrawide is probably a hybrid of the G9 57 and the U4025QW. Short term the U4025QW is still better in my opinion because of the 8K resolution limit on M3 Max preventing the G9 from being set to a "usable" scaled resolution. It's Apple's fault, but I dont want to be forced to use PBP, because the whole point is a single large screen. I paired my U4025QW with a ROG XG17 mounted underneath for fast-paced games (also solves the Zoom issue for me). I will probably use the G9 just for sim-racing (and single player immersive games) rather than hybrid productivity with MacOS. If I had to choose one to use with Mac and PC, it's for sure the U4025QW for multi-monitor (TB daisy-chain) and multi-peripheral switching in a single KVM

Depending on where your machine goes, you'll probably need some 3-5m HDMI/DisplayPort cables, and potentially the USB-A to USB-B cables if you're planning to use the built-in USB Hubs. I have a 32" OLED - the Asus PG32UCDM. Although the contrast and color are amazing, for productivity, it's suboptimal (especially on macOS) because you get nasty text fringing due to the subpixel layout not matching the subpixel antialiasing used by the OS. Ironically, you can mitigate this somewhat with a utility called MacType, but only on Windows. For gaming and watching videos, an OLED is amazing, but there are still problems that need to be solved before it's ideal for productivity. Also, there's always that tinge of worry in the back of my mind that the screen could burn in over time. I think mini LED is a great stopgap solution until we have true micro LED displays with normal RGB stripe subpixel layouts, but it'll be years before that's affordable in a large display.

Your original videos helped convince me this monitor was worth it, had it since Dec and not regretted it once. For coding work its perfect, being able to have so many windows open is awesome. In my mind this is a productivity workhorse, the res and with no worries about OLED burn-in make it ideal. I don't really use it for gaming (i've an OLED for that) but did fine certain games struggle with a fisheye effect, Cyberpunk especially. HDR outside of games isn't great IMO, feels washed out compared to my LG C9. The most important thing is I'd really recommend not using it with any machine that can't support the full res, say a laptop with an older HDMI port or older Thunderbolts. I had to use it at 5120x1440 until I got the right TB->HDMI cable and it was horrible in desktop usage.

i think oled is best with a 21:9 being the max size. media consumption usually taps out there, to reduce burn in you can manage 21:9 and 16:9 much easier. like you said this is perfect, honestly if they fix the haloing in future models then that's amazing. i have a oled g8 ultra wide and man that's a beautiful screen. qdoled, you can overclock it to 240hz on a lower than native resolution. also unlock hdr1000. i think g8 oled with this would be a perfect desk combo.

When playing games, you'd have to sit pretty far back in order to see all of the screen. I think the G9 49 inch would be a better choice, personally. I just don't think the NEO version is worth it considering the cost difference. And as far as resolution, I just can't detect a difference between the two as others have suggested.

Would the shallower curve of an OLED model be a "no thanks" reason, or is the curvature actually not a problem? I ask, because I love everything about the 49" OLED, but I'm not sure about the 1800r curve instead of a 1000r curve
@PeteMatheson21 күн бұрын
I personally fine the 1000r curve so much more comfortable. That and the bigger screen / higher resolution still makes me want to use the 57" over the 49" OLED. Still using the 57" right now! Hoping for an OLED version next year 🤞🏼

@@PeteMatheson Thank you so much for your answer, then it is decided, the 57" it is. Are there rumors of an OLED in the works already, that would be worth waiting for?

can you make it work with a macbook pro? what specs would we need for it?

I'm using the M3 Max Macbook Pro with mine. Also used the M1 but you can sometimes have fun trying to get the full resolution / refresh rate

You can purchase a new back cover from Samsung. I did it. Samsung Australia gave me their third party repair company contact details. They ordered a new one and shipped to me. Not expensive.

Could you review Acer Predator Z57? It's basically upgraded version of G9 with USB C. Would be interesting to see if it finally work as should with MacBooks.

Hey Pete, please what exact Mac studio M2 Max 1.) Core GPU, 2.) SSD, and 3.) RAM will you recommend I purchase to use on the samsung 57" odyssey monitor? Many thanks, dear sir.

@PeteMatheson, Could you make a comparison of the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 57", Acer Predator Z57, and Cooler Master GP57ZS monitors? Based on your experience, which is the best 57-inch monitor? Also, could you please test the Ergotron (45-693-216) HX Desk Monitor Arm with VHD Pivot for a 57-inch monitor stand?

is the monitor stand on your desk attached to the desk? How comes it never wobbles with an arm and a massive monitor?

hello its funny you talk about this in your video and was wondering if you think my 3080 graphics card can handle this type of monitor?

I’m not sure you are more productive than with a 55 minled flat (that is also much cheaper btw), hesitating.
