I love the whole thing - but since the room is so large, couldn't help but think a flight/racing sim would have been cool on the other half of the room... or a vr space! those are expensive, but maybe a future project :)

@@alexanderbassett-chan4307 That's a great idea, but yeah...it would be a pricey project. Maybe some company will sponsor me and send me most of the parts, lol. You need to add a cleanroom outside this room with an air bath and cleanroom suits. You'll need an air filtration system in the room as well. Nothing like all a black room and led lights to show every dust particle and fingerprint in the room.

Another aspirational video! Love it man, it looks amazing. Being able to have one large desk serve multiple purposes is really nice, and visually dividing it with light is a great idea. Your videos always remind me I need to up my ambient lighting game, not just at my desk but in my house in general. It really transforms the space. I totally agree with hiring out taping and mudding, what took that guy 2 days would have probably taken me 2 weeks. The project board template is brilliant. I have to remember that for when I'm doing work around my imperfect house!

tip of advice from someone who works at a paint store, in my opinion Behr does not make good paint/primer products. When you said you did 3 coats of primer I real life went "huh". If i was to recommend primer or paint for future projects I'd recommend Sherwin Williams or even Benjamin more primer (not a fan of their paint imo). Sherwin is a bit more expensive but imo one coat of primer and a coat of paint over pink walls for me was the best and least time consuming.

@Ideal-Setup21 күн бұрын
Thanks! Glad it sparked some ideas for you. It's been about a month now and holding up well so far and loving it. This wrap is also used on the exterior of cars, so they are pretty durable. Setup looks sick, and I like that vinyl trick you used. Gonna have to try that if I ever get a bigger countertop desk. Definitely keep me updated on how that MSI arm handles the tilt sag on that monitor as well. I bought a cheap dual arm set awhile back but the lock that controlled the tilt stripped after a couple of weeks so my monitor would just droop down towards the desk. Eventually got a Pixio dual arm set that I haven't had that problem with, but I'm interested in getting an ultrawide monitor soon, and I need a good solo arm for it.
@Ideal-SetupАй бұрын
Thanks! Yeah, i'll keep everyone posted. I noticed some sag initially, but I just had to tighten the top part further and that did the trick. It's a little confusing because they give the impression that they are already fairly tight, but they can go further. Having it be Oled helps because I think they are a little lighter.

Which thing? Not sure I understand what a Salford is? lol Let me know at which point in the video and I can explain it.
@dexanexaАй бұрын
@@Ideal-Setup Yeah, at 20:48 in the video, you have some sort of screen that says the word "Salford" on it. Firstly, what is that device exactly, and why did it say the word Salford on it? Why do you have it? Where did you get it? What is its purpose?
@Ideal-SetupАй бұрын
@@dexanexa Oh, that is the Pixoo64! It's by a company called Divoom. It's a pixel that displays animated art at 64x64 pixels. It's for that retro look. You get access to an app full of the art you can download and display or make/upload your own. When I turned it on, it just displayed random ones. Then you can set it to your own or have it cycle through.

Dry wall over top of that existing wood panelling is lazy and a good way to develop mold in between the two layers.
@Ideal-SetupАй бұрын
Thanks for the info! I'll keep you posted on how it holds up and if develops anything like that, i'll have to replace it I guess. Do you have a good article to look into that explains this?
@StevesGarageАй бұрын
If he didn't have a mold problem with the paneling is there a danger of it happening with drywall? I'd assume the basement is sufficiently 'dry' if it was previously finished and he hasn't had any issues.
@Ideal-SetupАй бұрын
@@StevesGarage Yeah, i'm curious too. I will buy a device to check humidity in that room like you suggested, just to be safe and keep an eye on it.
@StevesGarageАй бұрын
@Ideal-Setup Not sure when your house was built, but I know that newer homes typically have some sort of foundation wrap to keep any moisture out. And if you have a sump pump, you probably have perimeter drains. The foundation is built with the expectation the basement will be finished. Older homes don't have this, but with proper water management like grading and drains, moisture is much less of a concern. I'm by no means an expert on this stuff, but I have researched quite a bit for my own purposes.
@Ideal-SetupАй бұрын
@@StevesGarage That's good information to know. Mine was built in 1987 or 88 and it does have a sump pump. Never had moisture issues in here.

Why go with such expensive, beautiful oak just to wrap it.
@Ideal-SetupАй бұрын
I counter you with...why not? All jokes aside, it was the aesthetic I wanted to go for and the best part is the vinyl wrap doesn't damage it. So I could remove it whenever I want and even re-sand and stain it too. Plus, my first desk setup was already a lot of wood tones.

What was the point of the drywall if you were just gonna glue over and ruin the wood and then paint the drywall. You could have just sanded and painted the wood panels and saved that 500 dollarie doos

he really spent 300 dollars on a nice butcher block desk, just to cover it in a carbon fiber textured wrap. ikea sells particle board desks that are just as easy to wrap
@Ideal-Setup18 күн бұрын
Great point, but they are extremely light and warp easier than butcher block over time, and they didn't have the size I wanted. Maybe next time I can try what you're suggesting if I can get one at 12 ft. Plus...I wanted the option to reveal the wood in the future and not have to redo the desk.
