That's also the beat he used as the opening to his drum solo on 100,000 Years off of Alive! It's cool that he was able to incorporate it into a song. I've seen cover bands that mess it up all of the time by just playing a simple 4-4 beat.

@@erockscott1184 Apparently you don't know much about jazz drumming or drumming in general. The syncopated beat he plays here is jazzy, and a lot of stuff he plays on the snare and hi-hats in other songs is as well. Standard hard rock beats are straight-ahead 4/4, like Phil Rudd of AC/DC and Tommy Lee of Motley Crue, for example. How often have you heard them do a syncopated beat like this? That would be never. Just because it's not some crazy progressive jazz fusion beat in a 12/8 time signature or whatever doesn't mean that it's not jazzy.
@dowens37812 жыл бұрын
@@erockscott1184 Also, most drum teachers usually teach a basic 4/4 to beginner students, not syncopated beats like this which are more advanced. So I highly doubt that many kids who haven't had lessons would come up with such beats.

Why does every PC video bring out the haters? The guy is a recovering drug addict who is 76 years old, and has carpel tunnel. He is not practicing every day and trying to start a band. He’s semi-retired and doing some events to make a little money and meet his fans. Lighten up. I’m a drummer of 40 years and I love his performance on the Alive album. Driving rock beats with a bit of swing, very aggressive to match the music. Perfect for that band at that time. If you like that music, PC is a hero, if you don’t OK, move on. I also like Neil Peart, Bill Ward, Alex Van Halen, and bunch more rock drummers. None “better” than the others, all really cool stuff to me. Peter's skills declined after he stopped caring about the art and science of drumming; after he forgot about that young man who years earlier, posted in the local paper, "Drummer, Do anything to make it!" The end of the road for him came around 1980 when sadly, he failed his own audition with his own band. He was so bad in fact, that he was released immediately by unanimous vote of Gene, Paul, and even his buddy, Ace! With not enough skills to play on Unmasked, Kiss replaced him with Anton Fig, but let him appear on the album cover for the last time. I liked Peter a lot as an early Kiss fan, but I have little tolerance for musicians who stop caring about the fans and their craft so they can drown in excesses of every kind.

@jamesvaughn73892 жыл бұрын
Right on. I like Peter Criss. As a drummer, he just seemed to stop. For perspective, high school students played drums in 1980, maybe not better, but with more passion and variety than Pete. And had a sincere desire to learn, grow, challenge themselves. A band is only as strong as it's weakest member. I think it must have been gut wrenching to let him go. But they had to..twice. Eric Singer is really rock solid.
@richardtorymacdonald5782 жыл бұрын
@@jamesbarnett2483, not casting stones. I attended the Kiss Alive II Tour and sat front row (in from of Gene) wearing Peter Criss makeup!!! I was a huge Kiss fan and as a drummer, Peter was my favorite drummer. But Peter got rusty and listless because he did not build upon the basics, which means he simply stopped growing as a drummer. The exceptional drummers practice their craft for hours a day because they love it. Peter evidently stopped loving drums, which is fine for him but to hold him up as an awesome, great drummer is incorrect. This is what fans do, not drummers who know better. peace

Some people really don’t enjoy playing drums at heart.
