West Australian artist Peter Dailey was the second sculptor chosen to create ten life-size works for The Syndicate, a group of patrons committed to supporting locally-made art. Every few years, one WA artist is commissioned to create a body of work that will, upon completion, be distributed among the ten contributing patrons to become part of their private collections. Initiated by passionate art collectors Liz and Lloyd Horn, The Syndicate projects have become a significant part of the West Australian art scene.
Peter Dailey spent three years creating the many hundreds of components that went into making each figure, using a variety of media to realise his vision. A master craftsman who is equally at home sketching with coloured pencils as he is with painting and carving wood and other sculptural materials, Pete is a reflective thinker and an instinctive maker. This film captures but a fraction of the enormous amount of thought and work that went into 'Apparition: The Syndicate II'.
Film by Patrizia Tonello and Graham Taylor (Abandoned Suitcase), 2013.
