Great trainer and down to earth Yorkshireman like his brother Mick. Mark Birch rode a lot of winners for Peter in the 70s.

I listened to the Ebor on the radio, ITV being on strike, there’s no tv footage, but I wonder if the camera patrol film still exists ?

I was there that day at York. I backed Sea Pigeon, my favourite horse at the time, and still one of my favourites ever. A great day, and I was somewhat overcome with emotion when he won the Champion Hurdle twice. Sea Pigeon was a fantastic horse, and Night Nurse was very good. Great to see Peter Easterby remeniscing so well about some great times with two great horses.

The highest rated hurdler in all history the goat Night Nurse he beat the greatest field ever assembled for a hurdle race the 1977 champion hurdle. IT had 4 of the top 15 top rated horses of all time in the field plus others like Dramatist and Beacon light which would have been capable of winning champion hurdles on many other years.

fantastic memorys they dont make them like peter and mick no more great trainers the races in them days were the greatest with all great horses sea pigeon champion hurdle and ebor night nurse champion hurdle gold cup say no more
