This man's writing would regularly bring tears to my eyes as a teenager. He just captures something profoundly beautiful in his Side Glances stories.

All the years I subscribed to CW magazine, I would always read his column first. We all share the passion.

I quit subscribing to Cycle World when you couldn’t anymore. Mostly for Peter and Kevin.

For upper back and shoulder pain I can recommend passive hanging. If you're interested there's a book by John M Kirsch MD that explains this.

I can't believe this doesn't have more views!! I grew up reading and re-reading and re-reading Leanings until the book just about fell apart, while I was cutting my teeth on an old XS500C that I bought for $50 and fixed up in highschool and rode all over Central/Upstate NY and PA. Egan was part of my and my brother's inspiration to ride our cheap old bikes from NY to California and back in the summer of 2008.

Great interview. I've been reading his columns and feature articles from the beginning. There was no better feeling than seeing the latest copy of Cycle World and Road&Track at the magazine stand. It's nice to hear the voice and see the person, finally.

Some have said that PE was an insufferable arrogant man, but I don't see this in the interview !!

His articles in cycle world were the best

I love this! Peter and I have lived in a parallel universe -- I graduated from J-School in '72 and talked my way into working at the Norton Wolverhampton factory in the service dept, doing tech publications and being a factotum; my Service Dept. colleague in the California distributorship was Peter's friend Brian Slark. I love seeing Brian at the Barber Vintage weekends.

Always liked forward to Peter's columns, and probably why I quit buying motorcycle magazines when he retired.

Subscribed! I have been an Egan Fan since the first time I read his column, too many years ago. I am recovering from a total knee replacement and have been re-reading all of his books. Most of LEANINGS I have read 5 or 6 times, each. I am a retired aircraft mechanic, and I can't wait to read about the plane trip he and Barb took. Like Peter, I am into guitars, blues, and motorcycles. My bike stable has dwindled down (as I approach 70) to only 15 bikes, one of them a beautiful XLCR that I think Peter would appreciate. Thank you so much for this wonderful interview of my all-time favorite Moto-Journalist!!

Thanks so very much for this interview. Like many others here, I’ve been captivated by Mr. Egan’s writings for many years. How cool to finally get to see and listen to the man who I consider to be a Moto Journalist legend, easily on par with Alan Girdler, Cook Neilson, Phil Schilling, Kevin Cameron, and a select group of others. Excellent interview!

I ve seen several interviews of Pete Egan and most of the time interviewers are so star struck that they then to froze up.. Also most times they asked Peter E the same old questions. Good to share info with new people who doesn't know him. I am more interested in his new projects and what is he up to after leaving Cycle World. What I dislike was when he was talking about his current bike etc... interviewer quickly went back to the historical stuff. I would say Revzilla latest interview with him as also similarly flawed.

The Norton Commando Story, and the dismissive attitude of the employees at the Norton dealership, bring to mind a trip I made to California with a friend back in late August of 1973. Duane owned a Norton Commando but purchased a New Triumph Bonneville 750 Twin for the trip. He had 2000 miles on the Triumph, and it was serviced before the Trip. I rode my 1968 Suzuki T500 (Titan). We left home in Minnesota and checked our plug color somewhere in Nebraska. The Titan's plugs were rust brown and the Triumphs were Charcoal Balck! A least the Triumph wasn't running lean. We made a big loop down through the Southwestern States, Los Angeles, up the Coast Highway to San Francisco and into Boise Idaho. We stopped at a scenic overlook and checked plug color again. The Titan's plugs were rust brown, but the Triumph's plugs were Snow White! The insides of the exhaust exit cones were Snow White! I told Duane that I wasn't a 4 Stroke guy, and couldn't tune his bike, but I didn't think the Triumph would make it back to Minnesota running that hot! We found a Triumph shop in Boise an explained to the owner that we had two days to make it back to Minnesota. The answer was "First come first serve, I can probably get to it tomorrow" We got the bike serviced late the next day, too late to travel, so we basically lost two days! I was the Parts Manager in a Suzuki shop at the time. If anyone came into the shop from out of state with a bike problem the Service Manager would immediately stop work on a local bike and roll the out of state bike up on the stand and Fix It! The Service Manager said, " The last thing you want is for a Customer to feel stranded on a trip with a bike problem!" I think the unreliability of the British Bikes and the dismissive attitude of some Dealers explain why the British Bikes faded from the scene in the 1970's.
