Peter Forsberg Drafted by Flyers 1991

Forsberg drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers 6th overall in 1991. He would be traded to Quebec as part of the Lindros deal before ever playing a game for the Flyers. Amazing how poor his English is here as it didn't take him long before he could speak it fluently with barely any accent whatsoever.

I wish I could experience a reality where the Lindros trade didn't happen just so I could experience the greatness of Forsberg in Philly from a young age. I don't regret the Lindros trade, a lot of good came out of it for the franchise, but I would have loved to have seen what would have happened.

Haha, funny how Bob McKenzie stressed that Alek Stojanov was the best player available...a possible 30-goal, 300 PIM power forward, knowing the Flyers liked Forsberg. Gee, how smart the Flyers looked looking back now...of course, they made the Lindros-deal one year later, and handed Quebec the talent (lead by Forsberg) to win Cup a few years after that. What a career he had...just not for the Flyers

You have to remember: the Lindros era meant all teams were trying to find that prototypical big centre. Another prospect that’s comes to mind from around this time was Jim Sandlak. Yet another failed Canucks first rounder

I was wondering about Forsberg when he started to play for Quebec, I know he was part of the Lindros trade.. I did see forsberg play for the AVS, what a player..

The best thing about the Lindros/Forsberg trade is Forsberg did end up playing for Philly later in his career . Great stuff.

My dad went to this draft. I was 4. So jealous. Have the booklet from it the list of hof talent was insane. Went to 98 with lecavlier and leggy which was cool but no real stars after pick one. Wanted to go this year too but had to work. Plus I wanted to boo Matthews as he will be public enemy number one here for us except Tom perfect Brady lol But the 91 draft looked sweet. Plus it's in the aud miss that place.

compared to other young players that were drafted and made it to the big leagues, this guy, didn't look too happy when we drafted him...and when we got rid of JR, to make room for Forsberg, years later, he was "glass", missed a ton of games, couldn't find a skate or "boot" to properly fit when he played for us BUT miraculously found a skate or a boot to fit his ailing foot, to play for team Sweeden! When he was healthy, he was dominant... he didn't play that many games for us, due to injuries and equipment issues. He just never really seemed to be that proud or enthusiastic to wear The Orange and Black, in my opinion. He should've been honored...We should've kept JR!!! KING JEREMY, THE WICKED!!!

No idea what you're talking about to be honest. JR scored 106 points in 141 games in his last two seasons in Philly; Forsberg scored 115 points in his only 100 games with the team. To make things even more lopsided Roenick only scored 50 points in 128 games in the same time period with LA and Phoenix. Sure Forsberg was injured a lot, but even so, those 100 games were an amazing upgrade. Also, it's not like Forsberg had anything against Philly. First they traded him in '91 and then, when he picked Philly of all teams as a free agent, they stupidly traded him away a second time.

The Flyers HAD to trade him that second time. Forsberg was going to be a UFA and would not renew his contract with the Flyers. So Paul Holmgren, then-GM, had to get what he could for Forsberg so that he would not lose him for nothing. Holmgren and the Flyers did right by trading him. #GoFlyers

No. They were right to trade him the second time. Forsberg was gonna be a free agent and would not sign a new contract with the Flyers. So, the team management had to trade.

He was playing for Sweden but he was not himself, olympics is way more important then regular NHL season so he gave it a try. He was not sad or anything at the draft only really shy and unconfortable
