Yep. Kids nowadays miss out on so much. They have no idea what it’s like to wait for a new album. For example when this album came out I raced home , laid it on the turn table and turned it up. Didn’t get up till the entire side was done. Flipped it over and went round 2. Lol Those were the days. Now we just look up on digital music and press play. No waiting, no going to the music store looking through all the music etc. it’s an instant gratification world we live now. And the new music that is released is hardly worth laying in the floor or bed w wired headphones and spending the whole time listening to the entire album. There no building up in the intro etc. music starts and most time they immediately start singing. This generation, in my opinion, missed out on the best decades of music.

He’s using a “talk box” - horn driver (small loudspeaker) and a plastic tube. His guitar is probably connected to the amplifier, which in turn connects to the talk box input. The speaker system can then connect to the talk box output. The guitarist then places the end of the plastic tube halfway into their mouth. Thus, the amplified guitar sound is driven directly into the mouth. The mouth's voices and movements can then manipulate and shape the guitar notes and chords.”

No, he heard the originator of it play it and bought one fir himself. He taught himself how to play it. He never heard Jimi play that (o dont think jimi ever did). Joe Walsh had a hit with it before this, but he didn't use it to speak, just for the sound.

We recorded two of his live concerts from AXS TV & they are amazing. I believe both were performed within the last ten years & needless to say he has gotten better with age. We have both concerts saved on the hopper from 2+ years ago. They aren't getting deleted either...we turn them on & rewatch them. I was following him on Face book a few years ago. There was some story about that black guitar you see him with here. Apparently it was lost in a plane crash somewhere in South America. I don't think there were any band members aboard.....or if the pilots were killed, but the thing was just carrying their instruments. It went down in a jungle, and Peter's favorite guitar was gone. Decades later.....somebody backpacking around the area found it. They got it back to the manufacturer, who restored it & they returned it to Peter. He was pretty happy.

The person introducing Peter Frampton in this video clip is Helen Reddy, who had hits like Peaceful, Angie Baby, You And Me Against The World and her biggest hit called I Am Woman. The song here by Peter Frampton is actually from the biggest selling live album of all time in the USA and titled Frampton Comes Alive! The album version of Do You Feel Like We Do is 14:15 minutes and is the last song on this 2 album set. There were two other hits from the album called Show Me The Way and Baby, I Love Your Way, both #1 hits. The device Peter put in his mouth was used to alter his voice by running it through a synthesizer and the technology was invented by Georgio Moroder who was at the forefront of this new technology and did the soundtracks for the motion pictures Chase (main title theme) and Cat People featuring David Bowie (Putting Out Fire With Gasoline, the original version.). Bowie later covered himself on one of his own albums with a different version of the song. Georgio was also responsible for all of the music for the late, great Donna Summer, the Undisputed Queen Of Disco. Donna's first top 40 hit was a Disco ballad called Love To Love You Baby, which peaked at #2. Not bad for a debut single. Before teaming up with Donna, Georgio had a minor hit called Baby Blue in which he was the first to use the new technology to alter his own voice through the use of a synthesizer.

Peter Frampton was formerly with blues band Humble Pie. His solo career was made by Frampton Comes Alive - the best-selling double live album. The breakdown guitar solo uses a talkbox. Joe Walsh pioneered that.

I don't remember hearing this song before and I am certain that I would have remembered the voice box. The guitar playing is wonderful, I do enjoy listening to very talented musicians. You reaction when he put the voice box in his mouth was the same as mine, when I realized what it was I was thrilled. The energy was electric, a wonderful song to listen to. Take care and stay safe please my friends love hugs and peace to you all Mary-Ellen UK

It's called a "Talk Box." A tube goes inside of the mouth, and it mixes whatever you play on the guitar, with whatever you say, or sing into the tube. It's a mixture of guitar and voice. Joe Walsh was one of the first to ever use one, on his hit song "Rocky Mountain Way." That was really High Tech back in the 70s. Pretty cool little device though.

Hugely innovative with the talk box and an enormous talent! We had never seen or heard anything like it and he absolutely blew us away.

Funny! I was just thinking you might like one of my fave songs - Peter Frampton's Baby, I Love Your Way. LOL It is more of a ballad with a seriously addicting hook.

So fun, J! I’m glad nobody told you about his amazing guitar playing because it was fun seeing you be surprised! It was great that you were groovin’ on his guitar playing, and he hadn’t even gotten to the part with the talk box. I was laughing and thinking, “Just wait for it!” The Midnight Special was the shit back in the 70’s. It aired at midnight, and we didn’t have a way to record it, so you had to be in front of the TV if you wanted to watch it. “Be there or be square!” (In case you don’t know, a square was an uncool person.) And we didn’t have music videos back then either, so it was a way to see popular, talented musicians perform. And like someone else already said below, anyone who was anybody on the radio played on “The Midnight Special.”

I don't think there was a single dorm room or apartment I wandered into during my college days that did not have the "Frampton Comes Alive" album on the stack next to the turntable. It was everywhere, and I do mean everywhere. I need to dig my album out, LOL. He is one heck of a guitarist. If you want to hear more talkbox check out Joe Walsh.
