I am terminally ill with probably a year or so left. I've been with my partner for 23 years, we have 2 great boys together and 7 other kids all great too. We plan to marry this October and this song will be played then. It is a great song and as I've been listening to Peter Gabriel virtually all my life that's a bonus. Take care all.

Not sure why I am sharing this; My girlfriend was in a car wreck in Oct '23. She lost her ability to speak and communicate clearly. She told me in broken sentences that if she did not get better she gave me permission to move on because she did not want to hold me back from living life. I told her she was stuck with me no matter what. Needless to say, it was a long few months but she got better. By the grace of God, she regained her ability to speak. She sang this softly to me after she could speak again. I cried like a child. We were married in June 2024 and we danced to this song. She sang it to me softly just like she did before. This song makes me cry every time.

Its our Wedding Song. Ten days ago, I had a surgery and fell into a coma. My husband believed in me and was holding My Hand, while he played that Song for me in my room. Now I'm back, listen to this, crying, while he is at home and I'm still in Hospital, but awake. Thanks to Mr. Gabriel for the Song. And always remember: Love knows how to fight, how to win and how to reach the one in the darkness.

One of the truest statements I've read since this plague has started. It's important to remember this as it'll only become worse with each year as technology and social media grows. Thank God I've found the woman I'm want to spend the rest of my days with. I'll be asking her to marry me in the next few days. I only hope more people will put the phones down and don't forget to live!..

Gabriel's interpretation and arrangement is quite distinct from the original (but fantastic!). The Magnetic Fields version is a little more cynical - albeit with the slightly sweeter note that the chorus finds.

God damn, what a powerful song! I want to give a shout out to all the people who's souls have depth. This song brings me to my knees, because it speaks to me on so many levels. Shit, I don't even know where to begin. This song is dedicated to all the people from all walks of life. If you've been the victim of the most vile shit, this song is for you. If you've made it through this life unmolested, but still have heart and soul for those who's been through more, this song is for you. This song is for everyone, regardless of what you've been through. If your going through some shit, I recommend this song and R.E.M's "Everybody Hurts". Keep fighting the good fight! There is music out there that will save you, and it will help you. I know, because I've been there. If it wasn't for music, I would have killed myself back in 1993. I'm 38 now, and about to turn 39. If it wasn't for music I'd be dead at the age of 13! There is help, if you want it! Please ask for it! PEACE AND LOVE FOR ALL THOSE WHO STRUGGLE!

He is one of those rare musical geniuses that produces unique songs, sounds, and albums that are all his own. Peter's choice of songs to cover are just as powerful as his own material.
