I listened to this wonderful song this morning at my bed radio at 05.11. Eighty years ago it was D-Day. So many young people gave their highest sacrifice for our liberation and freedom at the beaches and hills of Normandy. Their book of love was closed far too early. We can't be grateful enough to them.

I am not the crying kind. I have never cried while listening to a song. But listening to this song completely breaks me down, and I start to sob like a child. I suspect the reason I start to cry while listening to this song is because of the lines that speak of hope for love from someone. I am well past 60 and steadily heading towards old age, having never had the privilege of having someone fall in love with me. Love truly is for lucky people. Some of us are just not that lucky.

Yep, especially because what is Love without Wisdom or Wisdom without Love. You can Love foolishly and/or too easily which often leads to bad or at least empty relationships. You can be too Wisdom focused which can lead to excessive Logic which then leads to an empty Life. Therefore, you need both together for the best existence. You still need to be open to Love & Companionship yet temper it with Wisdom to prevent Foolish Loves/Relationships. Just like you need the Wisdom to understand that importance.

Such a magical voice. Peter Gabriel is so unique when it comes to his songs. Red Rain is fantastic and his song Biko always reduces me to tears, just like this. There is also a different version, 2cellos and Zucchero where he sings in Italian. Definitely suits Zucchero's voice and worth listening to. Peter's voice is raw here, where Zucchero's is seductive and sublime.

This is a sad song for me. It will always be a sad song for me, because life does that with songs sometimes, but it will also always be one of the most beautiful combinations of words and phrases I have ever heard. Always.

I don't agree with his thoughts on the book, but I loved how he turned this into a love song about his wife, he may not have understood the world, but he understood where his music came from and why. That inspires me to always look for ways to write a song about love in a new and different way in the back of my mind. Something had to spark him to write this song, and I imagine it was the sound of her voice comforting him. A really nice piece of music.

One of the best lyrics I ever heared and even with his voice which is really not the best in the whole world, it gives the whole piece even more character and strength. This is so simple...but breathtaking in the same moment, and that makes it iconic and legendary. And it still has the touch of laughter and deep emotion that results out of JD‘s finale in scrubs.

Exactly. This is the first time I noticed the song in shall we dance, I Have seen the movie several times though not the beginning. I hope that younger people might listen to this and see the movie, particularly the exchanges between Mr Gere and his wife in the film and see true love has nothing to do with trivial things, and learn the value of commitment, consistency and openness between the ones you love, understanding that if you don't grow together you will certainly grow apart or both become bitter unhappy with yourselves and each other love is to be nurtured and constantly cared for as it grows if not it will wither and die from neglect.
