In an interview with PG , he states that Here Comes the Flood is the story of what happens when the entirety of the world's population becomes telepathic, and we can no longer lie to each other or keep secrets. Here is a snippet of that interview: "When I wrote this song [Here Comes The Flood] I had an obsession with short-wave radio and I was always amazed at the way in which the radio signals would become stronger as daylight faded. I felt as if psychic energy levels would also increase in the night. I had had an apocalyptic dream in which the psychic barriers which normally prevent us from seeing into each others' thoughts had been completely eroded producing a mental flood. Those that had been used to having their innermost thoughts exposed would handle this torrent and those inclined to concealment would drown in it." ('Peter Gabriel' by Armando Gallo, Omnibus Press, 1986.)

It makes sense that there was a "key" to understanding this song. I have always found remarkable the extent to which it draws my attention to the words, as though they have real meaning, but that meaning has always eluded me. Normally when I can't easily make sense of lyrics I just listen to them as sound and let the meaning of the words go, but this one somehow wants to be understood. That is hard to achieve in a song.

This night was my entry to that kind of music, that stilled my hunger - I was 16, in East Germany, living too far from the border to receive radio or TV broadcasts from the west. So a friend and I hitchhiked to Berlin. We had a short list of adresses, where people opened their flats for others to see Rockpalast, and we could stay at the first place we got to. Paul Butterfield was boring, so we went out to steal some 20 buckets of coal from a backyard in the neighbourhood to pay a bed. But then... PG lying on the stage "I will find out" (Moribund..) - "I need perspective" - an this song, which burned into my mind. The next years I saw Patti Smith, Joan Armatrading, The Police, Roger Chapman, Van Morrison and The Grateful Dead the same way. And PG was my first live concert - in Budapest 1987, exactly 9 years after this show.

The original recording is fabulous but, the re-recorded version on Robert Fripp's 1980 Album "Exposure" with that looped guitar tone beside Peter's haunting voice and piano, just knocks it out of the park! Though, after decades, I still prefer the first version on Robert Fripp's album, Exposure, he has made many recordings with carefully crafted arrangements that allow the full effect of this amazing ballad to come through. So Glad you are posting these 1 at a time! I can fit them in! (The whole show at this point would be hard to find the time. I'd seen your early NYC, Central Park shows live and I was totally absorbed in them! Tony took a photo of the audience at the end of one of the shows, and my former wife and I are pretty close up and are clearly visible in his release of the "Road Photos" book. I miss seeing you live so much. I'm 60 but on SS Disability these days, so concerts are few and far between now. I sure would go to any show of yours in a heartbeat though. I met your Anna in Cape Cod MA at a music and film fest and sat in a tent to watch "Growing Up" with her. I walked into the tent, nobody but her was inside. She say's, "Hi, Im Anna Gabriel, Would you like to see my film? You're late! Have a seat!" She was just as wonderful as her dad! I loved the film!

Wow Stephane! That's so very cool to hear! Things have not got less expensive either. I've now missed a few tours now myself, and it's an awful feeling. Anna was just the nicest person! It was just me and Anna up until near the end of the showing, someone else wandered in. but what was cool was a few times she stopped the film to give me more details! Love that girl ever since! Wish I could meet Peter!!!

Jimmer, first I know you are having a hard time, and I am so sorry. I have seen this friends in pain, disabilities, everyone though is different. I have experienced some of it myself, and know gratitude is the key as I know I am blessed with all of my abilities including my family, friends, many many great times doing crazy things including teaching aerobics, downhill skiing, so now it's basically my true love that is my P. T. as well, yoga and meditation, that have been a core in my life along with other things of course: travel, music, gardens, horses and dogs, cats and more--U r so blessed to have met his daughter! What a cool experience; one more story I have to add to the others that seem to be the way when there is always magic around his concerts. We lost a close friend and also a colleague of my husband's for many decades- they were even at our wedding, '81. I can't believe he is gone...6 months after stage 4 terminal cancer, diagnosis. He had a full family of love and friends to be present at his memorial and funeral, celebrated everything about him, memorialized him as a Vietnam vet, one who was haunted as they all are. He worked his a.. off, from college, which came after hospital when coming home and openly talked about what he could remember, when he was on the psych ward- he had joined at age 17~ he would hardly ever talk about the war that we all had wished would stop. He KNEW MUSIC. Peter was the TOP~ I feel really melancholy when I hear Peter as I learned what his music was and details of it, through him, our lost freind! When we got together ,the 4 of us, maybe kids playing inside, we were usually having red wine late into the night, and would often sit in near total darkness save for the candles and porch lights on our farm porch, talking about it, as well as our own losses in life, death, changes, re-birth, survival and ultimately deciding it's all good, it is where we are now-- I have strong Faith, and know he is in a good place, as he frequently has his presence known to one or more of us! I miss him every day. Concerts with Peter G. is our celebration of our friend, can't count how many between all of us, some w/ the guys taking our sons, some after his death,. On the 4th anniversary when we lost him, so a year or 2? ago, which was celebrated by traveling to U. K., in a college-town on his tour, Sheffield, to see an incredible, equally magical experience together so far. The concerts, wow, plus we had to re-visit Joe Walsh, the Eagles, who we saw with him! His brothers and sister sometimes came, some and his wife of course and his son ALWAYS was there despite a huge schedule, working on his degree into his early twenties. We all Grieve. The man is the greatest for turning me onto P. Gabriel, his words, only become better the more I see and listen. I imagine I will see him again, hopefully if it's in the plan of the Universe! Best and peace to you~

Lyrics: When the night shows the signals grow on radios All the strange things they come and go, as early warnings Stranded starfish have no place to hide still waiting for the swollen Easter tide There's no point in direction we cannot even choose a side. I took the old track the hollow shoulder, across the waters On the tall cliffs they were getting older, sons and daughters The jaded underworld was riding high Waves of steel hurled metal at the sky and as the nail sunk in the cloud, the rain was warm and soaked the crowd. Lord, here comes the flood We'll say goodbye to flesh and blood If again the seas are silent in any still alive It'll be those who gave their island to survive Drink up, dreamers, you're running dry. When the flood calls You have no home, you have no walls In the thunder crash You're a thousand minds, within a flash Don't be afraid to cry at what you see The actors gone, there's only you and me And if we break before the dawn, they'll use up what we used to be. Lord, here comes the flood We'll say goodbye to flesh and blood If again the seas are silent in any still alive It'll be those who gave their island to survive Drink up, dreamers, you're running dry.

Apparently Syria was the Ezekiel 38/39 gog magog war it happened in Syria, Syria is composed of lands that were part of ancient northern Israel, the people of Syria descendants of ancient Israelites. 3/11/2011 9.0 earthquake fulfilling Ezekiel 38: 18 This is what will happen in that day: When Gog attacks the land of Israel, my hot anger will be aroused, declares the Sovereign Lord. 19 In my zeal and fiery wrath I declare that at that time there shall be a great earthquake in the land of Israel. 20 The fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the beasts of the field, every creature that moves along the ground, and all the people on the face of the earth will tremble at my presence. The mountains will be overturned, the cliffs will crumble and every wall will fall to the ground. 3/11/2011 9.0 earthquake tsunami caused numerous reactor cores of fuel to meltdown in Japan, Fukushima diachi had a complete station blackout which means the cooling pumps stopped circulating the cooling water, it would take about 10 minutes for the latent heat in each fuel pool 12ft by 12ft by 12ft of water to boil off an the 26 reactor cores of fuel at Fukushima melted down, the news/government cannot admit to their reckless folly, the meltdowns throughout japan fulfilled Ezekiel 39:6 I will send fire on Magog and on those who live in safety in the coastlands, and they will know that I am the Lord. By 3/15/2011 the riots began in Syria, by 7/29/2011 a organized military resistance known as the Free Syrian Army had formed. It is 7/22/2018 that is 7 years since the organized military resistance an Syrian army would have begun to consume the weapons, an the people in the warzones would have begun to loot to survive in the warzone fulfilling Ezekiel 39:9-10 9 “‘Then those who live in the towns of Israel will go out and use the weapons for fuel and burn them up-the small and large shields, the bows and arrows, the war clubs and spears. For seven years they will use them for fuel. 10 They will not need to gather wood from the fields or cut it from the forests, because they will use the weapons for fuel. And they will plunder those who plundered them and loot those who looted them, declares the Sovereign Lord. Also very notable Russia has been a guard unto them fulfilling Ezekiel 38:7 Be thou prepared, and prepare for thyself, thou, and all thy company that are assembled unto thee, and be thou a guard unto them. All of the combatants listed in Ezekiel 38:1-8 have been engaged in Syria. Russia, Meschek an Tubal Syrian government Iran, Persia Syrian government Gomer, Turkey Togarmah, Turkey Libya rebels Ethiopia/Sudan rebels Israel also invaded Syria, an according to the video sponsored the terrorists in Syria. Ezekiel 39:11-20 has been fulfilled by the open mass grave east of lake assad. Ezekiel 39:11-20 indicates there will be an open mass grave that will stink east of a sea in a valley called the valley of Hamongog. There is an open mass grave that does stink in a valley east of the artificial sea lake assad in the north of Syria the mass open grave in a literal valley is called "the horde" horde meaning multitude, an hamongog can mean "the multitude of God" an that probable is actually the literal fulfillment of the prophecy of Ezekiel 39:11-20 as there are two many coincidences, but since peoples expectations are east of the sea of galilee they will probable not believe Ezekiel 39:11-20 is east of lake assad if that is the fulfillment of the prophecy, yet Ezekiel 39 seems optimistic that people will repent an believe. #gog #magog #ezekiel38 #ezekiel39 #ezekiel #apocalypse #fukushima #syria Ezekiel 39:7 So will I make my holy name known in the midst of my people Israel; and I will not let them pollute my holy name any more: and the heathen shall know that I am the Lord, the Holy One in Israel. Ezekiel 39:22 So the house of Israel shall know that I am the Lord their God from that day and forward. 23 And the heathen shall know that the house of Israel went into captivity for their iniquity: because they trespassed against me, therefore hid I my face from them, and gave them into the hand of their enemies: so fell they all by the sword. Im not sure how the Lord Jesus Christ is making his name known in these disasters, my guess is he is referring to this time period an all the Bible prophecies about it as well as Ezekiel 38/39 Gog Magog, an that somehow makes known his name. But its important to keep in mind that Revelation 9, an Revelation 16 indicate people are unrepentant even upto the 200 million 6th trumpet conflict, an even into the bowls of Revelation 16, has God made known his holy name, an do the heathen know that the house of Israel went into captivity for their iniquity, because they trespassed against him? There are still another 7 months that follows the end of the conflict described in Ezekiel 39:11-12, now that the war in Syria is ending the people can begin to rebuild their homes an lives, an they will be going through the rubble an finding bodies for the next 7 months in Syria. Ezekiel 39:11 And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will give unto Gog a place there of graves in Israel, the valley of the passengers on the east of the sea: and it shall stop the noses of the passengers: and there shall they bury Gog and all his multitude: and they shall call it The valley of Hamongog. 12 And seven months shall the house of Israel be burying of them, that they may cleanse the land. Yes that is how the Lord Jesus Christ makes his name know its the last verse in the chapter the outpouring of the Holy Spirit is coming according to Ezekiel 39:29 Neither will I hide my face any more from them: for I have poured out my spirit upon the house of Israel, saith the Lord God. It may take awhile for folks to figure out what is going on even with the Holy Spirit to counsel them, depending on how much misinformation they have consumed, an how far off their doctrines are. The latter rain is coming. James 5:7 Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain. Zechariah 10:1-3 King James Version (KJV) 10 Ask ye of the Lord rain in the time of the latter rain; so the Lord shall make bright clouds, and give them showers of rain, to every one grass in the field. 2 For the idols have spoken vanity, and the diviners have seen a lie, and have told false dreams; they comfort in vain: therefore they went their way as a flock, they were troubled, because there was no shepherd. 3 Mine anger was kindled against the shepherds, and I punished the goats: for the Lord of hosts hath visited his flock the house of Judah, and hath made them as his goodly horse in the battle. John 4:10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.
