Gabriel is still current, with his texts and his music, it doesn't matter which time.. he is so important for the future of music

the pitch is slightly high on this version. I think its probably the BEST version of this song because of it- just works!

The opening scene always gets me. The robot leading the child. It is so true of modern society with the majority of social workers - 1984 - the children shopping their parents. It reminds me of the evil of Albert fish. Our world is getting better but is it really improving. Like us children will always need love and guidance. Pls god let it happen one day

Thank you very much for the iformation :-) however I think that in this youtube video it sounds faster than the remix from 1983, which acorrding to wikipedia was on that album. But maybe theres something I`m missing here, I dont know.
@zzmarkonykanen79463 жыл бұрын
This is not the same version like shaking the tree greatest hits. It's faster or something however this is awesome. Maybe mr. Gabriel have to listen this. Also the bass is somehow bigger in this.

The movie reminds me of Plato's Allegory of the Cave. Robert Duval's character is the individual who breaks free from his shackles and ascends out of the cave to discover the world as it actually exists.

Hmm, the video reminds me of Plato's Allegory of the Cave--the struggle to break free from an artificial world of shadows and illusions so that a single individual can be exposed to the light of the real world.

Excellent work! I've resisted seeing THX-1138 for a long time, but you've inspired me to dig it out of the archives and give it a watch. In a geekly way, I find it ironic that six years after this was done, the song featured in another movie with Robert Duvall (Phenomenon).

I LOVE George Lucas' "THX-1138" (1970). Man it's been almost 6 years since I last ever saw that movie. Such a classic. Very inspiring movie. LOVE the plot & cast of the movie. Oh I totally think that Solo Peter Gabriel's "I Have The Touch" (1982) totally blends in with the footage you chose from "THX-1138"! Very fitting! Very trippy, hypnotic & 70s psychedelic looking! It would make a very trippy, hypnotic & spectacular music video for Psychedelic Rock, Space-Themed Rock, New Wave, Synth-Pop, Progressive Rock & Electronic songs! Your video has totally given me some music video inspirations for my Time Machine-Themed Cover band Sonic Impact I'd so LOVE to create someday! 😎😀😉🎧🎤🎹🎸🎵🎶 Please keep this video as it is & on KZbin forever & don't remove it at all. I LOVE it!

Finally! I find the original, not the remix version, which everyone else is posting! Nice choice of THX-1138... Chalk up Peter Gabriel with the likes of Queen, who used it as an inspiration for Calling All Girls' video. Awesome video! And yes, it's loud...but it's rock...it's SHOULD be!

I watched 'THX 1138' (1971) by George Lucas last night. I have returned to this video after last seeing it many years ago. The "I need contact" which Peter Gabriel sings in 'I Have The Touch' (1982) is not the contact which exists in the movie. Nevertheless your combining them here somehow works. Your freeze frame at the end... flawless timing. Okay thank-you.

@KingOfUm I imagine it's the way the story of Star Wars was told that captures everyone's interest. Having heard what the voice of the actor that actually "fleshed" the role of Darth Vader, and how consideration was given to doing the various scores heard throughout the film on synthesizer [and knowing what synths at the time of production were typically like (See "Moog Modular")], I applaud Lucas' decisions of how to tell the story... For they effected the final image, which is what he wanted.

@MaysLilStar Unfortunatly, this is not the original. This is as close to the original as you'll find here. The reason I know this is by the drums. The original version was very tom-tom heavy VS this version which has more snare drum. The drum parts had a very heavy Phil Collins "In the Air Tonight" (the signature end part) feel almost to a point where people thought Collins was playing it. Also, the original doesn't have as much keyboard as this version. I still have the vinyl somewhere.

@rhino1138 Wrong! It was "American Graffitti", which showcased what life was like for him in his late-teens in early-'60s Modesto, California. Unless you mean his college film... Which he made at MIT in the mid-to-late-'60s. The His first "Big-Screen" was AG, with THX being an elaboration he wished to do on his college film. I don't blame him for that because, well... Given the chance, how many of wish we could go-back & do-over what we did in college?

@johnduncan77 The answer comes from the fact that this version has cymbals. Gabriel wanted to emulate the cymbal-less sound from Peter Gabriel 3, so he kept it up on 4. Cymbals would not return to a Peter Gabriel album until So. It creates a very tribal sound. This version is also indeed much more keyboardy. Still, all of that just makes it work better with the video presented.
