To feel music so deep is a rare gift. I don't believe it would be as rare if people could let go of the day to day issues and the negativity and fully open to music. When a song so overwhelms you that you're smiling with tears on your cheeks, it's powerful and this song, this concert is powerful in it's celebration of life and when the dark is looming, when I feel despair circling, I watch songs from this concert to wash it all away and give me the inspiration to face what comes. A perfect reaction in my opinion ;)

Peter Gabriel went to Northern Africa to study the traditional sounds in order to make the sound track for Last Temptation of Christ. The entirety of the music created was produced solely from instruments used at that time, over 2,000 years ago. However, being there he became infatuated by African percussion style and rhythm, how it was created and how unique it was from American and European music. Then he became enrapt by the political situation in South Africa, how could he not, and wrote a song memorializing Stephen Biko. He went to Africa to produce music for a movie and I think in a way, he's still there in spirit. You can still see the influence in his present compositions. He also has had a hand in many non-profits empowering those who have been so inhumanely for so long. He helped get video cameras to people so they could document some of the atrocities so those that oppress could credibility in their denial. He cofounded WOMAD. You might look them up. They promote artists who would otherwise receive very little exposure.

The problem is that, when reacting to any song from this concert from Peter Gabriel, is that I always feel people are missing the whole picture, since this concert, the whole concert, is a piece of art, so when you see just one or two songs from it, you’re missing so many things; Peter Gabriel usually has concerts where both the music and the performance on stage are an integrated part, and that’s particularly important for this particular tour, The best I thing he has made ever; just to mention: the song that is the reason for this to start by having that dome going up letting see the musicians, Secret World (the song that gives the name to the tour). And the opening for the concert, with Come Talk to Me is fantastic.

@@GracieReacts it talks about looking into someone's eyes, and seeing their soul. The fire From their eyes, breaking down your walls. Being built up, and being made whole. And from a man's perspective, that's very important. Men are wired to work hard and provide for, protect, and lead their loved ones and their families (and yes, women do that too), it's often forgotten, or flat out overlooked that we need the support, love, passion, and partnership in a woman. This is purely a man's perspective, a woman may have a different meaning to the lyrics, but those feelings still come from your partner's eyes.

Gracie- love your reaction to this song. I don't know if anyone else had suggested to you already but if you get a chance - try to listen to and watch concert versions of 2 other Peter Gabriel songs- 'San Jacinto' which was inspired by a conversation that Gabriel had one night with a young man working in a hotel that Gabriel was staying at. The young man was of Native American ancestry and He told Gabriel about an experience that he had while going through a vision quest. The other Gabriel song that you should check out-particularly a live concert version is His 1980 song 'Biko' that was written about the death of South African anit-Aparthaid activist Steven Biko. It's a powerful protest song.
