Groundbreaking creative video in 1986 but still is amazing nearly 40 years later.

Peter Gabriel's first gig ever was seeing Otis Redding with the Memphis Horns. So he paid to bring them in & arrange for this song. So good.

This is MTV at its finest. The imagination that went into this video is incredible. It is such a surreal masterpiece.

The claymation was awesome!! Peter Gabriel's videos were perfectly made for the heyday of MTV! He wrote a song about sex and found a way to disguise the subject matter and get it past the censors. The song has catchy hooks and is clever in its delivery...I wanna be your Sledgehammer, is really not all that subtle, but wrapped up in a catchy tune😇😅🎶. He went on to make other interesting videos, Shock the Monkey is another good one. Chris, great song selection👍. Hap, great reaction and analysis, as always! Love that you mentioned Wallace and Grommit!! I met their creator Nick Park several years ago, the day before he won an Academy Award, for his short film. Small world 🌎.

I had no idea what was the song about until now, after you said it! 🤔😁 And I've heard the song so many times! Very clever, Peter Gabriel!

I have never seen this video which at first glance seems chaotic and randomly put together. A great way to disguise the original meaning behind it - Sledgehammer 🔨😜. I really enjoyed your analysis on the topic, HAP. At this point in time, the production effort must have been enormous, but extraordinarily creative. A great reaction to this famouse song 🤩🙋🏻♀️. Great choice Chris 👍.

Very big, played VERY often on MTV when MTV was actually great to watch! Stop motion was very new at the time. (this might be the 1st MTV video to use it? I could be wrong.). Anyway, groundbreaking at the time. Plus...well, it was Peter Gabriel !

The whole song is euphemism after euphemism for sexy-time. It was quite funny at the time bc the kids caught on pretty quick, but our parents didn't. Yes, it's done just like Wallace & Gromit...stop motion animation.

I have heard that song! Never saw the video before. Interesting was a good word for it. Not sure when this came out, but cudos to whoever created the video because it was different. Your reaction was priceless. Fun song choice Chris ❤ Thanks Hap for always putting a smile on my face with your reactions. 😊 By far, the best reactor, imo, you have diversity in your reactions ✌️ ☮️ 🎶

The same people who made Wallace and Gromit (Aardman Animations) were hired by Peter Gabriel to make this video. The first Wallace and Gromit (1989) came out a few years after this video.
