I don't think this is bad at all, but I think that in discarding the peppy, uptempo character of Simon's original Gabriel is losing something essential. Simon's positive rendition reflects the way that big tech's intrusions are always phrased as a positive, and echoes the propagandistic voices of tech enthusiasts. We are, alas, still in that moment (in 2024), and Gabriel's mournful take on the same material belongs still to a future era that will look back on the first days of "AI" with regret.
