The epitome of guitar playing , the guitar is literatelly emotion converter in his hands ,pathos... it pours out in excessive amounts large majority of the time . He is the most sophisticated communicator with silence and the rythm. Only a pour soul being crushed by society's greed and tendency to hate on each other for trivial shit, type of people can play this type of music , tell such detailed story and somehow create a home somewhere between those notes . Too good for this world type of people . Humanity has deprived itself of one of the greatest artists of all time , especially in this era of such communication and global awarenness where a young man from Bosnia can listen to a English dude being as authentic and artistic as one can be .

Peter blew my mind in 1967 with The Supernatural and then with early Fleetwood Mac circa 1968. Then I found my favorite LP of all time Then Play On. He is the Green God on guitar but just as important he was a fine man and a credit to humanity. Play On Peter!
@megadave11973 жыл бұрын
That’s a great album but you have to remember Danny Kirwan played lead guitar on a big chunk of tracks off that album including Oh Well
@davidbeckerich3 жыл бұрын
@@megadave1197 Problem was Danny had no hits to add to the LP even though I loved "Coming Your Way" with contributions from Mick Fleetwood adding congas. Peter was left with the responsibility of writing the hits including Oh Well, Rattlesnake Shake, Underway, The Madge Sessions (written by Peter but credited to Mick and John). Also singles The Green Manalishi and Man of the World. I am a big Danny fan and enjoyed his 3 Mac LP's after Peter left along with his solo LP with ex Savoy Brown vocalist Chris Youlden. Danny always received kind words from Peter and his unique style was important to the success of Albatross. He was one of my favorite guitarist but Peter needed someone to share the burden of coming up with some hit songs, Peter was the straw that stirred the drink and was also responsible for all the high points in the concert setting. Danny was awesome but he was no Green God. I appreciate you standing up for Danny he deserved his share of the fame of early Fleetwood Mac.
@megadave11973 жыл бұрын
@@davidbeckerich Yea completely agree with your assessment. Peter Green is my favourite guitarist. I also like the Danny Kirwan led FwM albums especially Bare Trees. Not heard that solo album you mentioned tho. Are Savoy Brown any good?
@davidbeckerich3 жыл бұрын
@@megadave1197 Early Savoy Brown put out some awesome Blues LP's. Kim Simmons is one of my favorite guitarist and Chris Youlden had the most unique blues voices on the scene. The 4 LP's with Chris are the starting point. "Blues Matter", "A Step Further" , "Raw Sienna" and " Getting To The Point". All great guitar based LP's . Stay away from the rest except for "Looking In" which was Kim Simmons and the group that became FOGHAT. Also a winner. Do Not Buy anything after 1971.

Peter Green exhibits a direct connection between his heart, head his fingers and a Higher Power. Peter played with a personal touch and made every note count . Peter felt that spacing the notes gave him the opportunity to let his notes tell his story of pain that he felt he could not do solely with words. Peter had to quit Fleetwood Mac in 1970 because the blues caused him too much pain. We are blessed that Peter sacrificed him mental well being to express his pain. After "Man Of The World" and "The Green Manalasi" it became apparent he was in need of help. Bless you Peter your music will forever live on

Have you heard the original BB King cut of this song, 66 or 67, with horns? The Album was Blues on top of Blues I think it was on ABC Dunhill and came out a couple of years before Completely Well which came out in 69 with his break out "Thrill is Gone". I saw BB about half a dozen times, mostly at Merriweather Post Pavillion by himself, and as an opener. I saw Albert Collins at the same place and times 70-73 when he played guitar for Ike and Tina Turner. You should check out Albert if you haven't heard much of him across the pond.

When BB King made those comments about Peter's sound and tone I thought it was based on him hearing,or hearing about, Peter. I did not know or realise they had played together at one point, as witnessed by the photo just after 9 minutes in to this BRILLIANT track. For me, The blues is about sadness and pain: the listener can only get that with the spaces between the notes, not some million notes per minute shredder. Pure mastery is exhibited here. Tony

Lots of people now only know later incarnation of Fleetwood Mac. Sixties have been whittled down musically to Beatles, Stones, Hendrix and 5 or 6 other bands. I really dig that he had an out of phase HIGHLY nasty and microphonic guitar and he made that work for him. He's got the amp cranked and is riding the volume control tirelessly and using soft and alternating hard picking styles etc. All these old time artists were highly skilled- these days its all dialed in, pedalled or the guitar is 'rubbish' and gets exchanged for a 'perfect' one etc. Brian May also another good example. His guitar sounds (arguably) pants clean but he makes it work and found his own tone in there.

Is that his "gold Top" Les Paul with the wrecked pickup? The sound is pretty unique.
@timothylewis24503 жыл бұрын
Yes. A ‘59 Standard. The magnets in one of the humbucker pickups was reversed due to a factory error. This reverse polarity resulted in the pickups being out of phase. It seems that magnetically out-of-phase pickups are responsive to pitch, creating an entirely different sort of sound. In a dual-pickup setting where each humbucker has its own volume pot, you can bleed the relative phase shift to create timbres ranging from a piercing howl to a subtle treble boost.“Oddly, the resulting sound is sweeter and more musical than what you get from wiring humbuckers out of phase,” Ellis writes. “Magnetically generated phase shift seems to respond to pitch changes - the higher the note, the more pronounced the effect. Chords and bass notes don’t have the thin, shrill sound of out-of-phase wiring, yet high notes played on the top strings have a pronounced hollow cry.” www.guitarplayer.com/players/the-key-to-peter-greens-magic-1959-les-paul-tone
