Great video. Very smooth lap there, and so interesting to hear Hicky's comments as you went around. I'd been working toward the Manx Grand Prix until they brought in the upper age limit of 45 a few years back. I was gutted, but at least I finally got to go to the TT in 2019 and did some morning laps of the course on a friend's bike. Hopefully I can get an entry to the parade lap in 2022, if all goes well.

Fab. That was my exact bike …same model. Could be a bit twitchy with that 16 inch wheel so that was a good lap first time out. My first time was on a gen 1 big valve Aprilia rsv Mille which was similar power but loads more torque. It could have been made for the island. The most memorable ride of my life from Glenhellen to Ramsey then over the mountain. Veranda should be taken as one corner with 3 kinks and I seem to remember it was the same for 33rd milestone. Awesome experience. Catching slower riders can be dodgy as you identified because you just don’t know which way they’ll go. Thanks for uploading. Brought back fond memories.❤

@djmastergroove9468 ай бұрын
He's certainly a brilliant rider and incredibly talented. But I wouldn't put him up there with the Dunlop's.. Not Joey. Potentially Hickman could become the mountain king legend up there with Joey. I'd say John McGuinness is more of a legendary status with 23 TT wins and 47 podiums. Peter Hickman no doubt will become one of Isle of Man's greatest! But he's not there just yet.

Churchtwon just short of the K tree. Somebody said Dan Kneen passed there so I researched it off the historical lap with the Svenglish narrator. REALLY good video for learning the course. The absolute best tutorial for the IOM Snaefell is "colin stockdale rearward facing camera." It gives you an appreciation for the UNBELIEVABLE UNDULATIONS of the course. How downhill it is into quarter bridge, union mills, ballascary, DJ's, etc. Uphill into Braden, (then down) how uphill the first part of the mountain is. Worth checking out if your a fan.

the beauty of today is video games! a good way to learn the TT is 'Isle of Man TT Ride on the Edge 2' (3 coming out May 2023 :) ) I've been playing it for about 3 months and it's taken every single bit of it to learn the track...i used the 'race line on' for most of it but after a million laps around the TT I've turned it off and gone at it blind... and it's fkn awesome! in the game I've won the Supersport TT and the Superbike TT riding in cockpit view with the line off and it feels great! it takes a lot to know this track and its 300 corners, and most corners are blind AND late apex so it's pretty brutal, but when you get it you get it! i feel like if i took a 600rr to the TT tomorrow i could get my way around and know exactly where i am and what to do... maybe not doing 200mph the whole time but I'd know where i am and what's coming! that's the advantage today's riders had over the pioneers, they can learn the track in a game before hand and it really helps! I'd love to get to the isle of man one day and check it out...as a spectator of course :)

If you want to do a "proper" lap then the Manx Grand Prix (straight after the Classic) is for amateur racers. There is "mad Sunday" during the TT proper week, bloody dangerous though. Or do what I did and do the lap under normal day to day public roads, obeying limits etc. If you want to thrash it there is no speed limit over the mountain, but learn it first.

I'd be over the moon to do a 25 min 37 sec lap of the IoM. It looked good to me. I have the feeling my lap would be more like 40 mins. Don't forget you were on a 123 ish BHP CBR900RR bike from 1996. The bike isn't brand new anymore, and it wasn't your bike ! Hicky has 200 ish BHP on his BMW S1000RR. So comparing to a 16 min 42 seconds lap is a bit unfair ! The lap time average of Philip McCallen (the winner) on the CBR900RR in the 1996 Production TT was 19 mins 18 secs ( 3 laps in 57 mins 53 seconds , not sure if they had pit stops in that ) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1996_Isle_of_Man_TT
